100% an emotional response.Fair enough. That seems like an emotional reason to choose him. Simply a feel-good narrative, which is your right, so I won't knock it, but it's not too many degrees separated from moral victories, either.
I'm just saying I'll be cheering for team success...wins over losses, and not for having the toughest kid on the field. For that, you have to optimize your talent options at the most important positions.
I reached a point earlier this year where I became angry that the old college football is dead. It's gone and it'll never return. I used to know the life story of every kid on the roster. Fast forward to today and I can't even name all the starters. I can't keep up with who's on the team or off, let alone get familar with the kids well enough to care whether or not they succeed. Don't get me wrong, I want the team to win but I don't have an emotional connection to the players like I used to. Winning would be nice but what I really miss is having a team that I truly enjoy cheering for. There's only a few players that I genuinely care about. Recently, I've found myself just hoping Heupel does well.
