'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

Wish we'd have been able to grab the Cal RB Ott who committed to Oky... it was probably already set up before he jumped into the portal, but man that would have been a great pickup to replace Sampson...

Nussmeier will be better this year
Nuss doesn't need to be a whole lot better this year. He needs more support at LSU. Last year their only production was through the air. They are desperate for a good RB and OL for a balanced attack. His TD and INT numbers are a little suspect because every defense worth anything knew LSU was throwing it all game and were prepared.

They were like the opposite of our offense last year.

Yeah we don't need to shell out a bunch of money for a RB. Not in the best rushing offense in the SEC. We've done fine with less (2021)
Our scheme also helps the run game. Thats why I think the staff needs to pull a QB that is a better passer than a runner. The last two years we have been hampered by our throwing game more than our rushing. We just need a stable of pretty good RBs that don't fumble.

It's one game, man. Was Igor an unstoppable beast this year because he had 18 rebounds in one game?
A player is either a tough competitor or he's not. I didn't say King was a beast, but I'm comfortable calling him a tough competitor based on nothing more than that one game.

The counterargument is to assume that might be the only game you've ever seen him play, though. We can't use one game as proof of anything. For example, go watch him vs Clemson in 2023. No one watches that game, alone, and says, "Yeah, I want that guy quarterbacking my team."
It is definitely the only game I've ever seen him play and it's the only game I need to have seen him play to know he's a tough mofo who I'd love to see quarterbacking my team.

Lots of tough kids out there that can't play the QB position well. I'm not saying King is bad. I'm not even saying that King can't play QB at a respectsble level. I just don't know why we have some fans excited for him to maybe be our guy. If he is, I think 8 wins is our ceiling. I think that is the case with Merk or GMac, too, so I'd just as soon save the money it would take to land King, which is the real issue. If you told me we could land King for $1-1.5 million, I'd be fine rolling the dice. I just think he likely will cost double that, and it isn't a good investment because we largely already know what he is. We have to get someone just to have enough bodies, so I'd rather pay up for a guy with more upside and talent like Rocco Becht or Sawyer Robertson, or pinch pennies on a more unknown, lower-tier guy that has more upside like Alonza Barnett.

Can def tell the people who only saw him play one game in his career

This is the question I was answering to begin this little mini debate. It's simply because he's tough. The perception of him is the opposite of the perception of Nico. The reason I'd be excited about him is because I like the idea of tough guy leading the team. I'm not thinking about it like a GM I'm think about it like a fan. Would he make us a national championship contender? Probably not. Would he be fun to cheer for? Absolutely. I also like Becht. Don't know who Sawyer Robertson is. I also like Kyle Walljasper for the same reason I like Haynes King.

Added Kenny Minchey, one of the 3 qbs in a qb battle at nd
I brought up his name on Saturday!

Now do Kienholz from Ohio State.

I think two things are likely true:
1) We are unlikely to bring in a QB that already has a starting job somewhere else at this stage
2) We are looking for a veteran scheme fit currently in a QB battle who will be here for 1-2 years max

Will Howard worked out pretty well for Ohio State I would say and Kansas State didn't want him

Fair enough. That seems like an emotional reason to choose him. Simply a feel-good narrative, which is your right, so I won't knock it, but it's not too many degrees separated from moral victories, either.

I'm just saying I'll be cheering for team success...wins over losses, and not for having the toughest kid on the field. For that, you have to optimize your talent options at the most important positions.

King is very rootable. He’s also a terrible fit for our offense. Dude simply can’t make the throws required of him for what CJH wants to do.
