Tourism to the US is cratering

I know. I spent a few of years in the Delta, partnered with people from Mississippi, had a number of clients, and one of my very best friends in the world is from Belzoni.

I love it when "experts" about someplace they have no clue about start pontificating about it.

There seems to be a lot of that going around lately

There still remains the problem with his logic. The fact that there are poor people has no bearing on what the people with money do. He has to conclude they are representative for it to mean anything.
"His" logic? That's rich.

See I agree with you there.
I’m in Chattanooga. I’m less than an hour away from a place in Tennessee where the people are among the poorest in the country. What does that have to do with tourism in Chattanooga.

I think it has more to do with the European economy. I read that the average income in some of those countries has fallen below the average income in Mississippi. If this is true, it would explain a lot of this. I mean how many dirt farmers in Mississippi are planning European vacations?

You gotta be kidding? Ever been to the Grand Canyon? Americans are almost a minority there. You have no idea what you're talking about. 1/3 of annual visitors.

You ever been to a ski resort? Vegas? Orlando?
Ha,
Don't ski. Vegas: It's just how fast or slow you want to lose your money. Orlando, at 73 I'm glad we don't have young children. We took our daughter when she graduated from UT about 20-25 years ago.
Grand Canyon 10/10.. Rockies are nice. Prefer cold water seafood so New England, N Cal and Or, Wash are all nice to visit.Part of the charm of NE is that it is the old part of the USA. Not old compared to most places, but old for the US.

Avoiding Russia sounds wise. Wouldn't want to get arrested there for nothing and end up as bait for a prisoner swap.
Was the food there edible when you visited?
We had a guide. The lady was a college professor, and was a guide on the side. The food was unremarkable.
The place was drab, especially the buildings. The people had a hard time coming out of communism. Wanted to work as little as possible.

Lol.
I said that in the edit.

Bottom line. Nobody in the tourism industry is freaking out because international tourism may or may not be projected to slip. Not while they’re basically sold out.
That was my thought. We are still traveling, but at our age that can end any day. Everywhere/everything seems packed to me. I wouldn't think of trying to travel in the northern hemisphere in June, J, Aug right now.. I blame it on the boomers. Retired, have money, wanna travel.
Don't get me started on international flights..

It’s been that way for a long time. People falsely romanticize Europe.

And the greater our relative advantage over those economies, the less tourism we will see in general. Because people want to go places where their currency goes further.

It’s not doom and gloom like EV is claiming
Like who is claiming?

Unremarkable sounds like a major upgrade from what we experienced, so that's good. Food was definitely the worst part of the trip.
It was drab then also but it was November, and still under communism so working as little as possible appeared to be the main objective.

Yes
Voluptuous Latina acrobats are exceptional.
There was this one lady I took a picture of. It’s funny because everyone always looks at her azz and thinks that’s the picture. I tell them to look again. She’s standing on a plank of wood that’s on a round section of PVC pipe on a platform that’s 3 feet tall and about 18x18 inches. While she’s balancing on that, she’s juggling.

Fing crazy.
If you’ve never been to Brazil for carnival then you’re really missing out.

Edit: Red called that show “crazy bitches with fire”

Your hypothesis is “tourist fear deportation”…..I see some flaws in that “logic”

The more likely answer here is that your graph only seems to cover about 1 year and there’s natural seasonal fluctuations in tourism.

Nice try, though
The stories of visitors being detained, having phones searched for anti trump content, etc, are definitely having an impact, even if it’s only a small percentage.
