No one person is going to unite this country when there are so many forces promoting extremism and division. Fox played
a big role in our polarization--a pure propaganda network run by a former GOP political operative and full of crazy commentators
pushing nonsense and conspiracy theories. Conservatives like to believe that CNN and Fox are the same, just on different sides,
but that is false. CNN was a boring news network when Fox got started and only got into commentary in reaction to Fox,, and while it's commentators tend to be moderates or center-leftists, the network has always been far more professional than Fox. Fact.
Beyond that, we see extremist right-wing media and extremist right-wing politicians who are not interested in compromise. They are
not interested in compromise on gun control--won't even ban assault rifles---or abortion. There are simply more and crazier extremists
on the political right. We're talking GOP politicians at the state and local who believe that 15-year-old rape victims should have the rapist's
baby--and there are states where this is law now--and who at the same time have not a care in the world about mass shootings and refuse
tighter gun regulation in any way. There is no compromising with extreme right-wing politicians--rednecks, christian crazies, conspiracy theorists. The Speaker of the House now is a wee man who wants to make government policy based on the bible. It's hard to compromise with people like that.
How bad is it on the right: There are a lot of people who think the gangster should be president again. You have to be mentally ill, unAmerican and
and to have lost all your moral values to want the gangster--a vile, traitorous lowlife and autocrat wannabe--in the White House again. Sensible people
understand that the man is a criminal and completely and utterly unfit to be a local dog catcher much less president, but many others apparently do not agree, and there is no way of comprising with MAGA people who are completely out of touch with reality--as is evident every time we hear one of them try to articulate their political views. They're morons.
Which brings up the educational divide. There is simply a big cultural and intellectual gap between Americans who are educated and those who are not, and that makes it hard to find commonality between the two. And their differences are exacerbated by media people and outside forces--especially Russian and Chinese disinformation, which has been rampant on social media for years. I know of no left-wing nations or organizations that create thousands of fake social media accounts to sow political and social division in America.
There are, simply put, far fewer extremists on the left--and those that might be pegged as such tend to be looking for a bit more equality and bit less white supremacy in America. We have no crazy, bizarre, ridiculous media people on the left. There is no equivalent of Alex Jones or of ANY of the many right-wing crackpots--including religious zanies--on the left. The left doesn't spread conspiracy theories 24/7--fact.
There is no reason why there cannot be compromise on issues like gun control and abortion--but we haven't seen it yet.
