I am speaking more to the depth, which I think is the point the coach is making as well.He is the one that recruited the lineman.
Now vs eventually. So far, nope. In the future, hopefully.LOL, no it's not. You cannot possibly have enough data to know if he is as good as advertised or not.
About that last statement, we've been led to believe that it's not from an inability to match offers, but the decision simply not to. Example, FM last year. Miami threw a huge amount at him. Word was we didn't think he was worth that much and money was better spent elsewhere. Not that we couldn't match it, but that we didn't match it. So the message being put out is that we're more frugal by choice, not lack of funds.I am speaking more to the depth, which I think is the point the coach is making as well.
Putting that aside, your comment/framing is a bit disingenuous. He didn't have a full cycle with the 2021 class and he's put 22-23 together despite restrictions.
He also had several big fish on the hook, even in this class, that went to higher bidders. All the more reason to promote the Vol Club.
You don't know the dynamic on the team. Maybe things work out if they play Nico but maybe the older guys are passed that Joe waited for his chance and the coaches played the kid. Without an intimate knowledge of the locker room you are just spouting fan speculation that is not based in fact.Nico is already a way better QB than Milton and it’s coaching malpractice and a slap to fans faces continuing to play Milton when he has played awful. Any boos he gets or loud chants for Nico are on him. You can’t be blown out two weeks in a row and not make any changes.
That’s on him.
We also failed on multiple short 3rd downs. Killed us.Was bemoaning this in the game thread. Halzle or Heupel are over thinking things. Wright had 2 carries until the last drive of the first half. This offense is stupid and not working.
Look at the roster breakdown from LWS's post.
Seniors: 30
Juniors: 9
Sophomores: 11
Freshmen: 33
Heupel was facing a really unique roster issue this season with over half of the roster being underclassmen and the largest group being Freshmen (redshirt and true) and second largest being a ton of Seniors. If you want a roster that can survive the season, you better keep a lot of those Seniors happy so they don't leave.
Let's be honest, most of those Seniors are mid to lower level SEC talent. Heupel has been handcuffed in some way with this roster every season. Next season will finally see the balance of the roster shift to something a little closer to normal and the 2025 season will probably be his first where he shouldn't have any notable roster issues to manage.
That player market will work itself out as well but we are also learning that OL are going to be valued very high coming out of HS and in the portalAbout that last statement, we've been led to believe that it's not from an inability to match offers, but the decision simply not to. Yuk.They aren't going to pull Joe for Senior Day vs Vandy or his last college game in the bowl. If Nico gets reps in either it's because we dominated or because Joe got hurt.
Joe is what he is and the hay is in the barn on this season. Tune out until the spring game or accept that you will see Joe finish this thing out.
