Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

more times in the past 3 seasons than our basketball program in it's entire history. And doing this having facilities that are no where near competitive with the basketball ccomplex.

Also have won as many SEC tourneys in the last 2 years as basketball in the past 44.

Someday we will have a Tony V or Josh as basketball coach.

Hopefully by tomorrow night we’ll have a baseball coach that’s won a CWS game.

Pat Summitt has more national championships than football, basketball, baseball, and softball combined. With budgets that were a fraction of the football program’s. SO WHAT? What’s wrong with every program being as successful as possible without throwing out the comparison garbage?

Barnes is clearly destroying this program
Absolutely. We need to go get Donnie Tyndall or Buzz Peterson again.

How soon some of our “fans” (and I use that term loosely) forget. Of course, we all know some of these purported “fans” aren’t really fans at all. They and we know who they are.

Seasons overlap so much already, if the basketball format were to be changed to double elimination, one of two things would need to happen; less teams in the field, or overlapping way into baseball season. The seasons already bump up against each other, just don't think we need the overlap it would create.

The real miss in your argument is the false assumption that the best predictor of future crapshoot tournament success is past crapshoot tournament success, rather than overall sustained program strength and success.

You’ll never realize this, so you do you lol.
You can say that, but theres a reason the ones who people call the Goats have the most FF, EE and NC.... Its not an accident that they get there.

I would assume you took a reading comprehension course somewhere along the way. What part of ,"our March woes started WAY before Barnes got here, did you not understand?
I understood it. You also said you wanted a Tony or Josh as basketball coach, which on the surface makes no sense since neither have won a NC here. It's ok man. You probably understand the differences now

The GOATS? Wooden? Rupp? Neither ever won a NCAA title with 32 teams in the field. Who are the more modern GOATS? K? Ok. I would call him the overall GOAT. Williams? HC at two basketball bluebloods with LOADS of talent. Self? Thompson? Donovan? I don't know that would take any current coach over Barnes, except for maybe Self, and he's not coming here. Wright is done.

You still haven't come up with a list of names that are better than Barnes that would come here for two reasons: 1. You actually don't know. 2. There isn't anyone

And we all know how Bill Self operates. Wink, Wink.

I'm just amazed that if one posts actual facts they are either a hater and or miserable.
When you post facts as a backhanded slap against another coach, then the shoe fits. You look at the woe is us mentality. I look at the fact that UT is the ONLY team in NCAA history to have the football team win a New Year's Day bowl game, BOTH of the basketball teams make it to the Sweet Sixteen and both the baseball and softball teams make it to the World Series. That is a pretty good year in my estimation. I am sorry I can't join in your cause.

We have some stupid fans.
Some on here are miserable unless they are miserable.
All fan bases have these people. At least ours seem to have stayed in-house recently. No tree poisoners or family arguments that have gone viral with arrests. Just passionate, occasionally stupid and/or miserable, fans.

Maybe Tenn is paying Barnes for more than wins and loses. Maybe they consider being a great role model and mentor of men, a valuable asset. Barnes is in the mold of long past coaches such as Dean Smith and John Wooden. Not so much Caliparri, Boheim, or Calhoun.

We do! This teams resiliency constantly amazes me. Came from behind at Clemson, at Hattiesburg and in Omaha.

Oh yeah and how about Loyalty? We hire him when he is an unemployed 60 year old and after his first really good season all of a sudden UCLA is his, "dream," job? And since he is one of the highest paid coaches in the country he has won 3 NCAA Tourney games in 4 years. And no we wouldnt have gone to the Dance in 2020 if it had been played. What a role model!

NCAA baseball tournament starts with double elimination. Then sweet 16 is best 2 of 3. Final 8 - CWS - is double elimination, then best of 3. Can't compare basketball postseason. Since you have no use for nuance, I thought I would apply some for you.

Barnes is a great coach.

Someday our entire fan base may be informed
Please don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen.

Stop with your bull ****. When did Barnes call UCLA his “DREAM” job? Kiffin said that USC was his “dream job”. Barnes said “I have so much respect for UCLA basketball and what it meant to me growing up. That was really the sole reason it all got started. It was just being intrigued with that basketball program.”

How about loyalty? Barnes also said: “In the meantime, Tennessee, after I met with UCLA, I point blank said to them I can’t do anything else until I had a chance to talk to Tennessee. I said I’m not going to walk out of here and not meet with my team. I’m not going to walk out of here and not meet with people that have been really good to me. That’s the way I felt about it. I just can’t say send a plane tomorrow. I’m going to make sure this is done the right way, with the respect that I feel for the way I really feel about Tennessee and the people here. I’ve been here.”

It’s really idiotic to spew your disparaging crap about the basketball coach in the baseball forum.

TN basketball has won two thirds of their games 13x since 1982. It has happened 5x in the last 6 years.

Barnes is the 3rd winningest, active D-1 coach in the NCAA. Only behind Calipari and Self. They racked up their wins at blue blood basketball programs. Barnes got most of his wins at football schools (Clemson, Texas, TN).

The UCLA fiasco is perhaps the only morally questionable thing he’s done at UT. It was poor timing and came across as a bit self-serving. If you’re lionizing someone for flirting with another school but still talking to his current school, then you must love Mike Gundy because he did that to our football program 3 times.

And yes-Barnes is a great coach who should retire here.

I’d bet a month’s pay that Rick Barnes is genuinely, extremely happy to see TN Baseball being highly successful. I’d also bet that CRB doesn’t hesitate for a second helping CTV work through challenges he encounters such as maneuvering through NIL issues and dealing with the NCAA if he’s asked. He’s almost certainly a resource for Heupel and any other head coach on campus as well. It’s too bad we have “fans” that are compelled to spew their garbage.

UCLA approached Barnes. Nobody would not listen and entertain an offer. Especially with what many consider to be the greatest program in the history of NCAA basketball.

Fulmer flirted with other schools and he’s a UT graduate. Pearl was doing more than just flirting. No doubt even Vitello has evaluated his options.

In another thread you state you are not a baseball fan so why the sudden need to post baseball info. We all know why. By the way, you are comparing apples and oranges.

Just the other day Vitello, seemingly unprompted, talked about how Barnes is the best there is, and I’ve heard numerous comments about all the coaches looking up to CRB. No doubt in my mind they are all pulling for one another.
