Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

It's not even any of that which bothers me. Anytime you have this conversation it always turns into but what about Green, Peterson etc...... I understand our AD ignored basketball in the past so because of that just assuming we can't do better is insane. There is more money coming into TN athletics than ever before, we have competent adults in charge for the first time in a long time. I'd rather have a young coach that you can give the program too that can grow with the program.
TGO pointed out the Weeklys earlier, I'm not sold that Karen will ever get it done, I really want to see how next years roster does and where the season goes, if they're not a solid team then I think there's an argument that we need to make a change there too.
But the two most exciting programs on campus at the moment have young coaches with programs trending to places they've never been becore. Vitello has made the postseason. 4 times already with two Elites Eights, in 6 years. Year 2 Heupel has a really had football program in the top 5 and winning NY6 bowl games against one of the more dominant teams in college football in the last 10 years. Men's basketball is just stagnant.

I think I will hang with the more rational group of fans that will let our AD, with a much more clear and comprehensive data set deal with ALL the staffing decisions. Those with consistently negative hypotheticals as the basis of thesis level posts are what they are in the eyes of each individual willing to wade through them. THAT is a fact. Humility is a terrible thing to waste.

Sure the SEC POY was going to ask to be sat at the end of that game because he's tired. Grasping at straws with this one.

The staff doesn’t need any player’s permission to sit them down.

He wasn’t in at the end of the game. He fouled out. If he had started OT he would have just picked up his 5th with more time left in tge ectea period.

Maybe, maybe not. We can go round and round about this all day. Maybe he does foul out, maybe he scores on our first couple possessions and Purdue doesnt open up a lead. Who knows he didnt get the chance.

Or maybe the staff decided that it would be best to give Willams an extra minute or two of rest before putting him into that situation with 4 fouls.

Im pretty well versed, when im not posting, I lurk so I have an idea of whats going on.
Sorry that I have national championship aspirations for the program, ill try to lower them in the next few months.

Common sense would be that Barnes is closer to a National Championship right now than anybody that has ever coached at TN before and anybody that Danny could hire right now to take over.

Being ranked in the AP poll EVERY WEEK for the last 2 seasons says CRB has the TN basketball program at its highest level in history. Beating #1 and #3 in 2022-23 validates it.
Is the goal for the program to let a 70 year old man peak and the destroy it, or is the goal to win national titles? Barnes has been a coach a long time and has only come close once. Hes not going to get it done.
Now, before you ask who you going to get, I dont know I agree hiring coaches is a bit of a crapshoot, you could get the next Kevin O Neil or you could find your own Coach K or Roy Williams. The point is we know what Barnes is and we just have to decide if we are fine with being ok, or if we actually want to win something relevant.

The crapshoot of a one and done tournament is really all that matters to you.

Destroy it?

And we're much better than "ok"

Let a 70 year old man peak and DESTROY the program? Your posts keep getting more idiotic.

That's the whole point of sports, winning championships.
The real miss in your argument is the false assumption that the best predictor of future crapshoot tournament success is past crapshoot tournament success, rather than overall sustained program strength and success.

You’ll never realize this, so you do you lol.

I understand track history and reputation, if Barnes was half the coach you all think he is you would think he'd get lucky every once in awhile.

Yep. Winning the SEC regular season is a championship. The thing is, you're fixated on a one and done crapshoot tournament that isn't always won by the best team. Sometimes the best team wins it. It's as much or more about luck than anything else.

You seem to be bothered by the fact that Barnes is a great coach

I'm curious. How many championship trophies do you have to your credit, either as player or coach?
