Gun control debate (merged)

That’s not the real question here. The real question is “is this a problem”? Can you establish the need?

It's not a good idea. We don't need to search the archives and find examples of kids shooting people to decide on this law. Your argument sounds like the one liberals make when arguing against voter ID laws. They say "show me the fraud first."

Do you think 6 olds carrying weapons is a significant issue anywhere?

Edit: with the exception of the Congo

I know that I don't want 6 yr olds carrying weapons period. Law enforcement says this is a problem. They oughta know:

A Democrat, Donna Baringer, said police in her district asked for the change to stop “14-year-olds walking down the middle of the street in the city of St Louis carrying AR-15s”.
“Now they have been emboldened, and they are walking around with them,” Baringer said. “Until they actually brandish them, and brandish them with intent, our police officers’ hands are handcuffed.”

Missouri votes against banning children from carrying guns in public

I don’t believe we should make it illegal to have a pet alien if pet aliens aren’t a thing either. Laws have consequences.

6 year olds carrying as you mentioned are not a thing. Should we have a ban on infant gun possession too?

Because kids don't have the ability to make life and death decisions. The principle that minors don't have the brain maturity to make decisions is well established in many other laws such as rape, drivers license, cigarettes, voting, tattoos...the list goes on and on

Many of those laws/bans are not based on anything other than feelings and hurt more than they help. The longer you treat a kid like an irresponsible meat-head the longer they will stay irresponsible meat-heads.

I think you are correct. My view is that it's like anti-sodomy laws. Times change. We ought not wait until a deadly incident happens with a little kid and a firearm. I say this as a staunch 2nd amendment protector. Such an incident were it to happen, would give the anti 2nd Amendment folks a big political boost. Let's nip it in the bud now. Show them that we're not nutty folks and we acknowledge that minors don't enjoy the same rights as adults. Don't let the far left say "your side thinks it's OK for a kid to carry a firearm but not OK to decide things like abortion and trans surgeries"
And that is a valid point to consider.

Problem is that passing a law that a certain age isn't afforded 2nd amendment rights isn't going to stop said age group from carrying a firearm. It's illegal for 18 and under to drink but they still drink.

Yes. It should be illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to carry a firearm in public. Amazing to me that there's even pushback on this

The opposite applies here. The left thinks it's ok for kids to decide trans surgeries, definitely life changing, ok for them to decide on getting an abortion, arguably life changing, but not ok with them carrying a gun at worst potentially life changing.

They didnt want Kyle Rittenhouse carrying, he was 17 at the time. And he was being chased by a convicted pedophile and an armed individual. They clearly dont care about our rights or our safety.

They dont recognize the right for 18+ to carry. Not sure why we should give on sub 18 carrying when if has been proven with Kyle to save an innocent life.

What about the simple act of carrying a gun in public should be illegal?

Especially when it's been found multiple times in court that it is NOT the police's job to protect us.

If anything it seems like you are racially stereotyping based on something you assume to be a problem. I find it so fascinating to watch how the racial bigotry of gun laws gets completely ignored if not down right played up, and it's acceptable.

Cant have young black men in downtown Saint Louis carrying guns because it makes you feel unsafe. And you just assume its problem.

A 14 yo, is not a 6 yo. A law isnt going to stop these kids from carrying.

I agree...and a 14 yr old isn't an 18 yr old. Age is an important consideration. It's my understanding that in Missouri it's still legal for 6 yr olds to carry. Maybe we can stumble upon some common ground and agree that that is a problem

How many 6 yos have been responsible for shooting people in MO?

I need something other than "law enforcement" say so. Many in law enforcement say private gun ownership is a problem so WTF should I take their word alone on anything?
Do you think minors should be allowed to drink, get tattoos, buy cigarettes and drive a car?

My minors, no. Your minors, that's up to you.

I was driving, carried a gun in my truck (hunting season mostly) when I was a minor all with my parents consent. I drank and tried cigarettes as a minor without consent of course. I didn't need the .gov telling me what I could let my kids do or not do to raise them.
