Gun control debate (merged)

Can anyone here explain why little kids carrying guns should be legal?

Missouri House votes against limits on minors carrying guns

This sure seems nutty to me
More like a question of why it should be illegal. Even back in 2007, when I was in high school, you always had a couple trucks with filled gun tracks. Never had an issue.

The way to control guns isnt through blind fear, a lack of understanding, and broad brushes that wouldnt even fix the problem.

It should be illegal 'cause kids are in no position or frame of mind to handle the responsibility of carrying a deadly weapon like a gun. We don't allow kids to drive cars, buy cigarettes or get tattoos. If you think a 6 yr old should be allowed to carry a gun in public places then I don't know what to say.

So you are going with blind fear, got it.

I have been around 8 year olds carrying shot guns and pistols. Not sure I have been around 6 y.o.s carrying., but I didnt have issue with the 8 yo's packing.

It's all about training and respect, and the insurmountable fact of a right (guns) vs a priviledge (driving a car).

The reason those 8 yos were able to be safe, safer than many cops I have been around, was because they were taught basic weapon safety before being handed a weapon. By people who understood what they were doing. They werent corrupted by the fear and ignorance you are displaying. They didnt rely on some assumption that because they wore a badge or had circled the sun an arbitrary number of times that everything would be fine.

Does that mean every 8 yo should have a gun, no, but it doesnt mean that NO 8 yo should have access to any weapon. This legislation wouldnt have changed anything.

6 probably not but teenagers sure. Never had school shootings when the parking lot was full of truck with rifles during hunting season.

Do you think 6 olds carrying weapons is a significant issue anywhere?

Edit: with the exception of the Congo

Just to be clear, a law wasn’t repealed? For 170 years Missouri has survived without this law?
But now people are nuts because Missouri needs this law? Has this suddenly become a problem in Missouri?
I think you are correct. My view is that it's like anti-sodomy laws. Times change. We ought not wait until a deadly incident happens with a little kid and a firearm. I say this as a staunch 2nd amendment protector. Such an incident were it to happen, would give the anti 2nd Amendment folks a big political boost. Let's nip it in the bud now. Show them that we're not nutty folks and we acknowledge that minors don't enjoy the same rights as adults. Don't let the far left say "your side thinks it's OK for a kid to carry a firearm but not OK to decide things like abortion and trans surgeries"

The question seems to be “why do we need this new restriction”
Because kids don't have the ability to make life and death decisions. The principle that minors don't have the brain maturity to make decisions is well established in many other laws such as rape, drivers license, cigarettes, voting, tattoos...the list goes on and on

That’s not the real question here. The real question is “is this a problem”? Can you establish the need?

Old enough to consent to genital mutilation, old enough to carry.

No, they are not old enough to consent to genital mutilation. Let's be consistent here. If we feel minors cannot consent to removing healthy body parts then they should not be able to carry a piece of machinery that can kill dozens of people by merely pulling a trigger
