Heupel Receives Contract Extension and raise

According to details of Heupel's new contract released by the university, his buyout would be 100 percent of what he was owed if he were terminated without cause prior to Dec. 15, 2025. The buyout would drop to 75 percent if he were fired between Dec. 15, 2025 and Dec. 14, 2027. The buyout would decrease to 50 percent on Dec. 15, 2027.

Heupel's incentives package was also increased. He would earn $100,000 for making a bowl game and all the way up to $1 million for winning the national championship. Other incentives include $50,000 for finishing in the Top 25, $100,000 for finishing in the Top 10 and $150,000 for finishing in the Top 5 as well as additional money for playing in the SEC championship game, winning coach of the year honors and his team reaching certain academic progress rates. Heupel will also receive increased private jet usage.

So he gets paid no matter what. How much if he quits though?

Uh, no. You may have missed it but we had one that dominated the SEC for about ten years and won a NC. Recency bias is alive and well.
Cutcliffe was the reason for much of that success. Plus, Spurrier owned him and Bama was down many of those years. Saban beat him with half the talent and backup QB at LSU. Saban would own Fulmer.

Keep working hard CJH. Vol nation loves you and what you have brought to the table. Now let's go recruit and recruit some more. We need more pieces of the puzzle to compete with Georgia and Alabama on a consistent basis. The raise was well deserved. Now let's keep winning. Go Vols.

Here we go again with the “X”was down, thats why we won. Had nothing to do with UT. All the other teams were down. You probably give all the credit to vandy when they had those 2 good years. The East wasn’t down, vandy was just good…….

Buyout stays the same as previous contract. 8 million first year, then 2 million drop each year after that.

Thanks...but I meant Heupel's buyout...what HE would owe the university for leaving (which, of course, would be picked up by whoever hires him away). The above is what the university would owe him for firing him. Those are two different buyout terms.

Spurrier dominated. Fulmer was "good". You could say that UT was "dominant" for a couple of years. After chasing Spurrier for several years, UT broke through and won the SEC twice. Other than that, Fulmer was the bridesmaid in his "good" years.

Meanwhile in California there is a politician who has a bill capping college coaches salary at around $500,000 per year. If it passes there will be nobody to coach college football in California.

Kiffin is such a prick! Coach Heupel = underpaid (still); Kiffin = Overpaid clown
Kiffin is a good coach but undependable. Sort of like a Jaguar sports car that performs like a charm until it leaves you stranded on the side of the road at a critical juncture.

There wont be any anyway. There is so much wrong with that state now it isn’t even funny. Whatever amount they DO end up being able to pay, the State income tax will decimate the coaches take home paycheck. And I will not even touch the regulations I am sure apply at any state funded school

Haha.
That will not even get considered.

Coaching salaries have gone insane, but I am thrilled to see the UTAD react appropriately to the market and keep a winning coach happy and give him no reason to look around.

Danny White is the best AD we’ve had in forever.

10000 percent agree !!!!
Danny White continues to show why he's an elite AD - one of the best in the game.
Not only got his coach top tier pay at 9 million a year, but also protected the University in the event things should go sideways by not burdening the contract with an overwhelming buyout ala TxAM and other schools.
