I think one of the issues is with the linebackers. Last year banks and Beasley combined for 7 sacks. This year they have 1. Mitchell has none. Don't know if that's poor blitz design or what but getting nothing out of those guys had hurt for sureI like this but in order to help the secondary, sacks/hurries/pressures matter a great deal. Spencer Rattler was so comfortable he could’ve taken a nap in the pocket and got to whatever spot he wanted to get to. But everyone just says fire WM and Banks. Where was the DL? They played a huge role in that entire failure.
Which brought me to the question of stats showing DL improvement.
Before anyone starts with their BS, I’m a big Garner fan. I don’t want him gone and this is meant purely for conversational purposes.
We went hard after a couple of players but were outbid. People seem to forget we were hard after Verse, then some other edge player. And then we had Neyor committed before Texas bough...flipped him. We didn't completely ignore the portal last off season. NIL complicated things. Why not? We'll actually be able to attack the portal this year. Remember last year we weren't allowed to do crap.
This year will be a lot different in the portal imo. Some big names will move around to winners and NiL payors.
Some people are meant to be coordinators. He's one of them. I think Dan Quinn is another. I'll never understand how people who make millions of dollars keep assuming that being a good X/O football mind is the same thing as being a good HC.I have said the same thing. Why schools drool over him so much I'll never understand.
