On the first drive they called a blitz and Mitchell was supposed to go..so help me he was 7 yards beyond the LOS and when it was snapped he just kind of loped towards Rattler, who easily threw the ball to reciever in the vacated spot before Mitchell even got to the LOS...there is no way he was supposed to be that far beyond the line, and he sure as hell was supposed to be jogging towards Rattler...

As I've been rewatching plays...I think that one and one other just kind of encapsulates everything that happened....bad design, bad teaching and horrid lazy execution.

One other was on a 3rd down play in the first half where stupid Hadden started 11 yards deep and then bailed out and started running deep as soon as the ball was snapped....of course the WR stopped just beyond the first down marker and caught a ridiculously easy pass...and then ran forward for a lot more yards before anybody could even lay a finger on him..
I rewatched the UK and SC games. I am having a hard time reconciling that these are the same defensive players.

What does SC defense have to do with our defense. We're not comparing our defense to theirs. We're comparing every other teams defense that was able to hold them in check to ours.

I think that at this point, usc was playing their best players in the secondary regardless of seniority. Might be the best poit he/she/they have made…🤔

it was mostly competitive all season until that game - that's my only point. I just don't think we have the talent and depth to sustain competitiveness throughout the season - Saturday proved that. Coaching played a role, certainly. But talent/depth was the bigger issue in my opinion.

The player that was quoted as saying that the Tennessee players thought that usc would roll over and quit was very telling to me. If you don’t believe that the opponent is coming to play their best, then they play above their ability is the perfect way to get your ass handed to you. That pretty much sums up our defensive performance last Saturday. usc came to play. Tennessee’s defense didn’t prepare to play a fired up opponent.

I would have never thought that would be possible, but when I read that quote, the game made more sense.
Not excusable at all. Half-assing it with a playoff berth on the line is mind boggling to me. I can’t fathom how little insight that would take.
However, I remember all the stupid sheet that I did at that age, and I really do get it. Of course, I just screwed myself over with my boneheaded decisions, not an entire nation of VFLs hoping for the fairy tale ending…

I get it but this thread is truly the everything, except politics, thread. I am sure you know but the best place for recruiting news about a player is his thread.
The Basketball Forum use to have a thread like this called “Regular Posters”. Now the BF has 30 different threads similar to FF. I love that here you can go to one thread to find everything and there are not new threads started every time someone has a question or an idea.

No one’s claiming MILTON is “flawless” either, but QBs typically play themselves into a game. So shutting down the voting booths after the equivalent of two possessions seems presumptuous. Not speaking for the other poster, I brought up Hooker because he’s had an undisputed excellent season. I recall some airmailed passes early against Ball State. His final tally was 18/25. What if we parsed those 7 incompletions? Milton was 8/9 in that game incidentally.
In making this an issue of Milton vs. Hooker, you're creating an argument that doesn't exist, though.

Milton has certainly had fewer opportunities, this year, and I think he has shown tremendous improvement in those limited opportunities over last year. This isn't a campaign against him.

I'm simply correcting the inaccuracy in his statement that Milton "hasn't been overthrowing guys, this year". No more, no less. He has continued to overthrow guys, even in the South Carolina game. I gave specific examples. And I'm sorry, just because the play was nullified by penalty doesn't mean what happened during the play didn't happen. It just means the down didn't count. Come on, you're smarter than that.

And sure, if JM played the whole game, and those were his only 3-4 overthrows, and he finished 18-25 for 315 yds and 4 TDs, we probably excuse them like most have for Hooker, all year.

So maybe if we were to remove "Football" from the title, there would be less randos come in here and tell us how we should manage our community thread.

Yup and the first overthrow he has against Vandy people are gonna go nuts. “Overthrow Joe”, “can’t hit the broadside of a barn”. I get that Hooker gets or got a pass for how well he has played but Hooker has had plenty of overthrows and all you hear is crickets.
MIlton literally had one overthrow against SC and people already lost confidence in him for next year lol. It is ridiculous like you said.

agreed

and i personally think hes going to torch Vandy saturday.
