He's gonna be a hybrid type I think...Pope/Alex both recruiting him...probably wishful thinking on my part. But rather than have him as a WR and buried on the depth chart I'd rather see him learn to play TE and be on the field more as an additional weapon. Could even end up at RB (he plays WR/RB/QB in HS)
I don't think we can keep his talent on the sideline. He'll get some gametime as wr/rb/wingback

Yes, and our offensive talent was thought of the same way prior to Heupel getting here. Hell, Hooker wasn’t even on the radar. Tillman? Nobody. Fant? Our offensive line was consider a weakness. You really don’t seem to be getting this whole thing. It isn’t like the offensive staff inherited a great situation. If you put Chaney with this same team, you don’t have anywhere near the production.
I’m getting it very well. Offense is pre planned plays and defense is reactionary. Easier to make improvements on offense than defense.
Had this exact same convo before the SCe game with a former college coach and a former NFL linebacker.
Im not saying Banks is the answer, however, it’s too early to tell. If we are having these problems at the end of ‘24, then Banks is the problem.

If we ever put him at TE, I hope he transfers immediately.

Brock Bowers bro...that's how I wanna see us use him until the WR room is cleared out.

Although with his speed he'll be playing WR I'm sure. Last time I read about him I just saw his size an the ATH classification....didn't realize he was 10.7 100m guy at that size

Darnell Wright was a top 10 player, and Mays and Carvin are solid. This staff brought in Mincey. Hyatt was a 4 star, Keyton was a 4 star, and they brought in a 5 star McCoy. Would have been nice to bring in a 4/5 star CB. Turrentine needs more time. QB is the position that Heupel can develop. While the offensive development has been off the charts, there were talented pieces.

I just don’t believe those same pieces are on defense, especially in the back 5. We are starting 3 guys who were ranked 472, 596, and 930 nationally, and a 4th who was not a top 25 Juco player. Yikes.

While we’re on the topic of soccer, I sat next to a couple in Neyland for the Florida game. The man was a Canadian Vol and the woman was from England. She said that she had never seen an atmosphere like Neyland that day and that she had attended plenty of European football matches. I thought it was one of the greatest compliments you can hear about Tennessee games in Neyland.

Was just thinking about the game Saturday and I imagine how I'd feel if Joe Milton just lights them up. Just puts on a damn clinic and we roll Vandy.

I dont think enough have visualized how reassuring that would feel.

We are worried about everything snowballing, but I think if Joe kills them Saturday night we'll mostly go back to being really happy and excited.

*goes back to visualizing vandys destruction*

WHy they just didn't put a cap across the board for all players I'll never know. It would keep a lot of "I don't get paid enough" and I believe the portal wouldn't be as near as crazy as its going to be soon.
Because they went the NIL route instead of salary route, you can’t tell someone how much their Name, Image, and Likeness is worth and how much the can make. Toothpaste is out of the tube at this point.

I'm expecting lots of injury announcements in the hours leading up to the game, personally. Brace yourself!

Ehh, really hoping that is not the case and would be shocked if kids opt out ... That would be another red flag against this staff... that means we've just given up on the season... now if it is opting out during the bowl, then I may get it a little, but this is still regular season and we just got embarrassed...

Our defensive talent has been lacking all season. Linebacker play is bad. The few bright spots being Herring (athletic but not ready yet). DLine….Young and Baron are the only ones. Secondary…slaughter has had his moments. Everyone else is serviceable at best.
I will make an assessment at the end of year 4 on Banks.
Need to pump the brakes on Herring imo. I think he’s better than what they expected so he’s got people excited. Smith(obviously), but I wouldn’t be surprised if Telander ends up being better than Herring.

We have good enough athletes at CORNER to have a better secondary. Speed on the backend is lacking lol. I really think we need to ask Mcullough to move on because if we don’t, this staff is just gonna start the guys who have played and they haven’t tried much at safety outside of a few snaps with walker in there if I am correct. I think it’s scheme more than anything, who knows but something has to change.

Wow just read the article and what a whiny little biatch.
Yes. But... I think he knows he's in trouble.

Also, he's not the only one facing this. Coaches will also be jumping for jobs that are good at NIL. Who some of those jobs are could be surprising in the future.

The wise money in the future may not be a crap load of high school 4 and 5 stars. It could be players who have proven they can handle college life and how to prepare for the season. A&M is looking like a cautionary tale.

He really does seem upset.

Im evaluating Herring in athletic ability. He’s a freshman and on the roster currently. Our LB that are committed are guys I’m extremely excited about. I wouldn’t be surprised that by mid season next year, we have underclassmen starting in the back 7.

Sadly I think that's true...18-22 year olds in a "me, me, me" world. NIL, transfer portal, and social media has only made it worse. At best they'll invest 4 or 5 years into UT and fans have put in decades.

Not sure this is really fair. While they could never match at their age what those of us who’ve supported the program for decades have invested, these kids were crying as they left the stadium and sought their families. I think they’re devastated as a whole. They’ve fought hard and outpaced expectations all year long and blew it on Saturday. No one needs to tell them that.

This staff has no red flags in my book and won’t for another couple of years - they just need to learn from Saturday and move on, like everyone else

Red flags, hot seats and coaching searches are for the birds

Disagree on Squirrel being better than the guys that leads every receiving category in the country at this time. Everything else is pretty spot on.
Squirrel is definitely a better receiver. That is obvious…. Just because he doesn’t have the stats yet doesn’t mean anything. Squirrel actually goes up for the ball etc.

Yeah I was referring to Elijah and that’s what I was basing my thoughts off since their isn’t much to go on. Telander is underrated athletically imo, and overall just has better film. I’m not counting out Herring, I’m just higher on the two coming in. Charles getting back to playing safety would be huge, and would love to see more Of Wesley walker next year.
