I don't get it. No one predicted we would beat Bama, LSU, Florida, and Pitt and have a chance to win 10-11 games this year. We have played above our heads all year long. Now, we have a really bad loss to a bad SC team, and we're trying to find something wrong with us. Why can't the reason be that we have played above our heads all year, especially with the lack of talent we have on defense. We went to a road environment at night, we played horrible and also lost our starting QB, both starting corners, and a starting WR while also missing our best LB and at the same time SC played outstanding. Yes, some of that was due to our poor defense, but anyone who watches that game can see that Rattler played at a level he had never played at before. He was dropping dimes, even when on the run he was putting balls on the money. Sometimes that happens. Why do we have to find something wrong?

I don't understand this firing everybody, looking for internal problems, trying to find something to blame. Fact is, we are still a low talent team on defense and SC played above their heads and we played horribly. But this doesn't mean that everything is burning down, or that our program is about to be in shambles, or whatever else I've seen.

Look at other teams. UGA went 8-4 in year 1 with a loss to Vandy. Yes, they went to the NC in year 2, but they played no one to get there. They had a pitiful SOC that year, and they got blown out by AU in the regular season. They got to go to the NC because they played AU again, instead of Alabama in Atlanta and then went on to lose to Bama for the championship game. That playoff appearance doesn't happen if they play Bama in Atlanta.

In year 3, GA went 11-3, with a blowout loss to a mediocre LSU team, a loss to Bama in Atlanta, and a loss to a mediocre Texas team in the bowl game.
In year 4, Kirby lost to a 4-8 (4-8!!!!) SC team in a day time game at Willie B and then got blown out by LSU in Atlanta.

In year 5, Kirby went 8-2 with blowout losses to Florida and Alabama. Uncompetitive losses in both games.

And Kirby did that with far more, far more talent than what Heup has. Our roster would not compete with any of those rosters, especially on defense, and we're wanting to burn the program down looking for answers because of one bad loss. So many are panicked because of one bad loss? Give me a break! That doesn't mean that some changes shouldn't be made on defense, but I just don't understand why there are so many looking for explanations to what happened. It's year 2.
Well said, Bass! Losing, especially in the manner we did Saturday night, sucks. But, we are playing this week for a possible 10 win season in the 2nd year of a new head coach. Unreal...I'm good!! GBO

I will say this...if you look at the offense you see lesser talent getting coached up and the system working.

I say lesser talent, but even then our offense is ahead of our defense in talent.

QB room: Hooker, Milton, & Tayven = all 4 stars outta HS and were top 20 QBs in their classes.
RB room: Small (3 star 12th ranked APB), Wright (3 star 40th RB), Sampson (3 star 36th RB), JWT (4 star 22nd RB)
WR room: Keyton (4 star 17th WR), Tillman (3 star 246th WR), Bru (5 star 10th Best Player), Hyatt (4 star 33rd WR)
TE room: Fant (3 star 125th WR), Warren (3 star 36th TE), Campbell (3 star 17th TE)
OL room: Wright (5 star 2nd OT), Carvin (4 star 26th OT), Cooper (4 star 6th OC), Spraggins (3 star 12th OC), Crawford (Unranked), Mincey (3 star 48th OT)

So what does that tell us...well it tells us that talent matters, QBs, WRs, and OL got plenty of 4 or 5 star talent.

We've all agreed that RB/TE are areas we are behind offensively and shouldn't be a surprise that those are also areas with less talent. So we need more talent on defense and we also need the current talent to be developed better (that's what the offensive staff is doing better at every position) and we know it can be done RG has made the guys he got better and only has a few 4/5 star guys to work with.

Charles: Meh list
Flowers: Meh list
Tank: Good list, overrated as it was just us, FSU, and USCjr recruiting him
Hadden: Meh list.
Warren: Good list, overrated as it was Us, FL, and NCST recruiting him, and at the time only FL was decent

I'd keep a few of the secondary players but most of them should/or I wish would leave. Luckily the 3 stars we have now seem to be different. A perfect example of this would be Rickey Gibson. It was us and UGA battling for him, right?

Turnage - Bama
Turnetine- OSU

And yes, UGA wanted Gibson bad. I think Gibson starts next year with Burrell. Slaughter and Turrentine at safety. Star is the same two that play. I bet we take a transfer safety, linebacker, and DL.

Not sure how much of it was game plan. We had multiple guys out on defense to start the game. We lost more as the game went along. If I'm not mistaken both Slaughter and Hadden went down at corner and we were already without Burrell. Charles came in, but this is his first game back.

It was embarrassing. It was horrible. Some of it was on scheme. I'm sure there's times we could have been in a better call. Most of it was on talent on both sides of the ball. Spencer Rattler is a high level QB (5* and former Heisman candidate) regardless of what the rest of what the early part of this season has shown.

You can't take a terrible secondary, subtract multiple pieces from that secondary, and then act shocked when they don't perform. This is Sal Sunseri level CB talent and we got Sunseri level results.
Giving those huge cushions while not blitzing was absolute massive stupidity...it gave Rattler a TON of super easy throws to get in a rhythm.

That was total inexcusable coaching malpractice..period...EVERYBODy here besides you can see that.

We brought 5 a lot. Technically a blitz. Just got manhandled by USCe OL.

What happened this weekend is what happens when you play against a talented QB that lacks emotional discipline, you have to put him on the ground early and shake/fluster him.

Our pass rush (or lack thereof) combined with our Swiss cheese secondary was the perfect storm for him to have the game of his life... which he did.

Hopefully our young/incoming DL can change the lack of pressure which has plagued us in spurts all season.

One thing I'll say about Milton - he lets his receivers go up and make plays. Hooker has never really done that. Far too many times Hooker has opted for check downs on "free plays". Milton understands a free play is a free play and takes a shot every time.

Tillman and MCoy are both 60/40 - 70/30 jump-ball receivers but never get that opportunity to show it.

We've been in bonus points most of the year. Feel the pain, sure. But also enjoy the experience, folks.

Jordan Matthews (our highest rated and fastest CB in class) will be playing to start at CB I think. Walker and McDonald have been pretty consistent when they've played. So I think STAR is pretty set with those two. Turnage has shown the most potential imo of the CBs this year. But I think we'll see a lot of new faces back there next season.

I agree, Hendon protects the ball to a fault in some situations

Thinking we're going to lose to Vandy seems dainty....
Thinking we were going to get obliterated by SC was funny too...last week.

Don't be arsehole...you may not want to face the truth, it you may not be able to face it...but this game may very well be a loss. Our defense is pureed 💩, and Milton has never accomplished anything important.

Those are facts and I hope those facts change and the defense plays a good game, because if they don't and Milton struggles...we are losing.

Can't sleep on anyone as we found out Saturday..... that being said I would be SHOCKED if this team didn't respond positively to that embarrassment and the loss of Hendo for the rest of the season.
