Yeah, I saw a good bit of that on my way out. One Tennessee fan was walking with a cane (although he appeared to be in his 30s), and a SC fan was giving him hell, telling him all about how he just "took that cock".
Would have checked them real quick. We checked a lot of UGA fans. You can talk big until real men challenge you. It’s your decision then if you want your a** beat or you shut up.

The defense could get better instantly with an elite pass rusher. We have had a really good DL but oddly we don't have an elite pass rusher on that line (usually DLs that are as good as ours have at least a very good one - a name that stands out and gets singled out by rival fans). If we did it would mask that weak secondary and we'd get better quickly while we built that D.
Byron Young is supposed to be that..but he seems to get lost a lot...on the other hand he got held badly all day Saturday and did not get one single holding call...nobody did.

remember when Clemson had to deal with the "Clemsoning" tag for like five years?

2011 (10-4) worked their way from unranked to number 6 by Halloween, and lost 3 of their last 5 to end the season (incl. loss to rival SC). Still ended up in the Orange Bowl and got S M O K E D by WVU 70-33. "Clemsoning" is born, I think by Dan and Ty on the Solid Verbal Podcast. I remember those days and episodes vividly.

2012 (11-2) got to top 10 by the time they played FSU week 4, lost 49-37. Lost to rival SC to end the season.

2013 (11-2) got to number 3 for their week 7 game against FSU and got destroyed 51-14. Lose to SC at the end of the season.

2014 (10-3) blown out at home to UGA to start the season. Lost to FSU again early in the season. Stomped by GT late in the season. Finally overcame SC.

2015 got back inside the top 10 and a reporter actually asked Dabo about "Clemsoning"

RIP "Clemsoning" as they finished Runner Up

2016 National Champions

2017 Semi-Finalist

2018 National Champions

2019 Runner-Up

2020 Semi-Finalist

2021 back to reality

2022 probably not making it in

The point is...

It's so rarely a linear rise to the top.

Dabo and Clemson had to play ok, then good, but good wasn't good enough, to the point that the national media coined a new phrase to make fun of them. Good became better. Better became best. Now almost any program would kill for their success.

You take licks in this sport. Sometimes you're the laughing stock. Ups and downs, just like in life.

Exactly. We're experiencing growing pains right now and some of those pains will be really really bad like last Saturday. But we'll get there eventually

I hope you are right...I really do..but..there is no freaking way he got left off last minute after the whole week of game prep unless it was something pretty bad.

He must have done enough wrong that Heupel had no choice for future team culture and cohesion that he had to leave him behind.

I just can not believe it was over nothing.
Hubbs said that he "had a really bad week" last week and wasn't doing what he was supposed to do. AP said he was supposed to be on their podcast last week and missed that as well. Don't know what's going on with him.

Our loss kept the talking heads from speaking of Georgia barely getting by Kentucky, Ohio State barely getting by Maryland, and TCU barely getting by Illinois. Arkansas destroyed Ole Miss. It also stopped talk of Vandy taking down Florida. Their fans were thrilled to throw their snark at us to keep eyes away from them.
It was just a really weird day..I was thinking before the game that "watch all these other teams escape and we will be the ones to get upset"..and then I thought "no this team is for real, no way this garbage SC team beats us"....then I got shown the truth.

This was me. “Hmm…weird day. Hope we’re not the ones.”

I don’t think we would have won the playoff had we made it, but I can’t help but imagine a scenario where we win two shootouts in a row. It would have changed everything about UT football. Heupel would have had an embarrassment of riches in talent in no time.
It can happen if we ever get a good defensive coaching staff besides Rodney

UK isn’t going to a bowl game next year unless they get crowned this years Portal King. Hopefully AR15 goes pro and they start a freshman. With the boosted ego and big head we gave Rattler he’ll go Pro thinking he’s the second coming of Mahomes. Aggie Exodus.

UGA/Bama having new QBs will be intriguing
Rattler is going to drilled at Clemson...I hope we get him at Neyland next year.

He worked really hard to get back on the team and establish himself as a viable starter. Bad story if it ends with pettiness.

What we've endured over the years...give me 9-2 in Year 2 with a head scratching blowout loss on the road. Hell if Heupel can get us to 8+ every year I'll take this one bad game once a season even, I don't care honestly. Rather be in the mix and drop the ball than not be relevant at all.

Lol exactly. Some out here would rather just go 6-6 and forego the Bama and UF wins so their feewings don't get hurt after that loss or two each season.

Could never be me.

I just wanted to make the playoff. Even if we lost or even got blown out, making it would’ve been huge for UT and its future.

The first quesiton he got was about the JB situation. He WILL be with the team this week. CJH didn't say anything else about it, just "he wasn't available last week"

said defense didn't make tackles, beat blocks

Asked about Joe Milton. Not worried about Joe getting injured because we have 2 guys behind him familiar with the system. With Joe they're going to let him play and find a way to win the game. Are going to use him as needed, in run game too. "Joe has grown a bunch, you've seen the way he's played when he's been given the opportunity. Has a good command of what we do. We won't change what we do." He laughed when asked how Joe has changed from last year to this year.

If we're talking about DC's, we need to see which DC's have excelled in quick paced offenses. Otherwise your comparing apples to oranges. Below are the 24 fastest offenses in college football and their defensive ranks:

1. Texas Tech = 80
2. Oklahoma St = 117
3. Buffalo = 89
4. SMU = 115
5. Wake Forest = 88
6. TXSA = 86
7. Akron = 110
8. Mississippi = 75
9. Purdue = 34
10. Arkansas = 118 (No way on Odom for me)
11. James Madison = 14!!!!!!!
12. GA Southern = 129
13. Clemson = 18 (Huge talent disparity which shows need for 4-5 stars on D-line and DB)
14. Marshall = 10!!!!
15. Middle Tenn = 95
16. Tennessee = 100
17. Illinois = 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
18. UCF = 40
19. Oklahoma = 112
20. Iowa State = 8!!!!!!!!!!!
21. Indiana = 123
22. Georgia State = 82
23. Washington = 49
24. LSU = 34

I sincerely hope and believe not. Danny White strikes me as an astute AD. Heup and Danny need to put the program's needs above the coaching staff's desires. It's over as far as trust for secondary coaching and it was predicted by many of us on here. Other than UK and LSU, the secondary and at times, the entire D has stunk against the SEC as well as Pitt. They also had too many series against the light weight OOC that stunk. This is the second season, the season that reveals the strengths and weaknesses of the coaching staff as well as roster. We don't expect perfection, just keep it in the mid-20's against mediocre SEC competition.

The issues on D are multiple - player development, scheme, play calling, player rotations (who and when) and possibly recruiting. The later of which we will have no idea since the other three are so screwed up. The reason a crappy O-line like USCe's could contain our pass rush was because of player rotations and the gap techniques Banks' uses with his slants and such. You need those two NFL quality DT's (Big O/Terry) creating havoc at the mesh point and pushing the pocket to flush the QB outside for Young and crew to sack them. Instead he has them slanting most of the time. I hate it. At least half the time the slant is wrong on runs and the pocket does not get pushed on passes. Opposing OC's know what they are doing.

The other problem with this same issue is the rotations. It has felt like we are back to Georgia State and Chaney sending in every offensive player he had to play a lot of snaps at the exclusion of winning. They are not doing that on O with Heup and Golesh, it's just on Banks' side of the ball. I get wanting to keep them fresh, but you also need to stop the other team more than zero times in the first half and half the time in the second. Nine freakin' TD's. Leave your starters in for more than a few minutes at a time, for several possessions in the first quarter, to develop some consistency and cohesion playing together. But select the right starters. It is criminal that Mitchell is playing, much less starting. If Banks is out at least use Herring to gain experience since he is the future. I promise he will make more plays than Mitchell in his first two minutes on the field. It's dumb stuff like that over and over.
Should have Josephs, West and Pearce in there a lot more too. The pass rush seems to hit a little extra gear when they are in.

Ive been a defender of Coach Martinez. Based on knowing him from his time at GA and AU I think he is as good as anyone at coaching DBs. However, for whatever reason he's not getting it out of these players. Could be handcuffed by scheme, could be modern offenses passing him by, could be not connecting with the players. I don't know. Neither does anyone else on here. The coaches inside the building that are paid to make those decisions will hopefully make the right ones AFTER the season. Idle threats from a bunch of keyboard gurus are useless and not helpful. My concern is that recruits and parents read this crap. Just my two cents (adjusted for inflation)
He got it out of multiple guys last year (Theo and AT) and still the secondary was average nationally.

He absolutely killed it at UCF and seny everyone under the sun to the NFL. Guy is a stud developer.

But this scheme...I just don't get it. A lot of people have said it is bend but not break and that has worked most of the season. But sometimes all hell breaks loose on defenses like that.

It’s funny how when we sucked I felt despair, but mostly apathy. My dad told me a lot that the 90’s sucked in some ways because that one loss every year ruined the season and you never let it go until the next season kicked off. I thought he was insane and I’d just appreciate even winning the 10+ games in the first place, but I understand it now.
Lol...that is one way of looking at it.

I don't get it. No one predicted we would beat Bama, LSU, Florida, and Pitt and have a chance to win 10-11 games this year. We have played above our heads all year long. Now, we have a really bad loss to a bad SC team, and we're trying to find something wrong with us. Why can't the reason be that we have played above our heads all year, especially with the lack of talent we have on defense. We went to a road environment at night, we played horrible and also lost our starting QB, both starting corners, and a starting WR while also missing our best LB and at the same time SC played outstanding. Yes, some of that was due to our poor defense, but anyone who watches that game can see that Rattler played at a level he had never played at before. He was dropping dimes, even when on the run he was putting balls on the money. Sometimes that happens. Why do we have to find something wrong?

I don't understand this firing everybody, looking for internal problems, trying to find something to blame. Fact is, we are still a low talent team on defense and SC played above their heads and we played horribly. But this doesn't mean that everything is burning down, or that our program is about to be in shambles, or whatever else I've seen.

Look at other teams. UGA went 8-4 in year 1 with a loss to Vandy. Yes, they went to the NC in year 2, but they played no one to get there. They had a pitiful SOC that year, and they got blown out by AU in the regular season. They got to go to the NC because they played AU again, instead of Alabama in Atlanta and then went on to lose to Bama for the championship game. That playoff appearance doesn't happen if they play Bama in Atlanta.

In year 3, GA went 11-3, with a blowout loss to a mediocre LSU team, a loss to Bama in Atlanta, and a loss to a mediocre Texas team in the bowl game.
In year 4, Kirby lost to a 4-8 (4-8!!!!) SC team in a day time game at Willie B and then got blown out by LSU in Atlanta.

In year 5, Kirby went 8-2 with blowout losses to Florida and Alabama. Uncompetitive losses in both games.

And Kirby did that with far more, far more talent than what Heup has. Our roster would not compete with any of those rosters, especially on defense, and we're wanting to burn the program down looking for answers because of one bad loss. So many are panicked because of one bad loss? Give me a break! That doesn't mean that some changes shouldn't be made on defense, but I just don't understand why there are so many looking for explanations to what happened. It's year 2.

I agree, but I think it all stems from how that loss went down.

Lose 38-31 or something like that where SC had a Beamer special and faked a FG that went for a TD and there’s less helplessness in here.

Give up 63 to THAT offense? You get pandemonium.

Yup. A month ago I got yelled at and called out by some posters calling for Banks to be fired. Said I was being too negative. Just call it like I see it.
Are you really that happy to be proven right? Here...I got a big ole slap on the back for you..

"Great call Smyrna...It is so awesome how smart and great you are about our crappy defensive coaches...how very observant and intelligent you are!!! How do you even fit that giant brain packed with knowledge and wisdom in your skull?"

Happy now?
