Not sure how much of it was game plan. We had multiple guys out on defense to start the game. We lost more as the game went along. If I'm not mistaken both Slaughter and Hadden went down at corner and we were already without Burrell. Charles came in, but this is his first game back.

It was embarrassing. It was horrible. Some of it was on scheme. I'm sure there's times we could have been in a better call. Most of it was on talent on both sides of the ball. Spencer Rattler is a high level QB (5* and former Heisman candidate) regardless of what the rest of what the early part of this season has shown.

You can't take a terrible secondary, subtract multiple pieces from that secondary, and then act shocked when they don't perform. This is Sal Sunseri level CB talent and we got Sunseri level results.
You sure you watched the game? Hadden was in most of the second half trying to talk instead off playing. It was hard not to miss him.

If any of these portal guys we've brought in turn the corner so to speak we should see a pretty big improvement in next year's secondary (assuming the good talent doesn't portal out and we keep the 2023 class in tact).

Brandon Turnage - 102nd rated player in his class, 13th at CB and the 8th best player in MS - 4* 0.9548 composite
Kamal Hadden - 2746th rated player in his class, 275th at CB and the 81st best player in MI - 2* 0.7953 composite
Andre Turrentine - 169th rated player in his class, 21st at CB and the 6th best player in TN - 4* 0.9269 composite
Wesley Walker - 588th rated player in his class, 83rd at CB and the 30th best player in TN - 3* 0.8750 composite

So what you'd like to see is Turrentine and Turnage play to their HS ratings more going into this next season. Walker has shown flashes, but he's also moved to Safety so he's behind some upperclassmen who honestly are probably just holding on to their spots outta respect for them grinding it out this long. (Tank & Flowers)

So next year Heupel needs to tell Banks/Willie (assuming both stay) that the best guys need to play period. And open the entire secondary competition up at every spot

Last night every post you were making was about the need to fire coaches.
In the conversation you and I had, I said they need to do better. I didn't say fire them. But I'm not opposed to firing them either. And it's two coaches. Let's be clear about that. It's Tim Banks and WM. Not wholesale firings. The DBs have played like crap all season. And as I said, our defense has struggled in more games than not.

Man you talk about making a mistake.....I went to the FF. Holy sh*t !!!! I admit I can be a little off kilter but some of that was unbelievable. Someone thinks that CJH has secretly signed a deal to be a coach in the NFL. They have us going everywhere from Muschamp to Chavis for DC. They have a poll to see if this year was a failure and a few said it was and on and on. It was like..........

So Flowers had one strong offer? That's not what anyone would call an impressive offer list. Yes, Hadden signed with a bad Auburn team and then left because he wouldn't see the field. Before signing with them he was a low rated and barely recruited JUCO player.

LMFAO if you're trying to convince me that a Georgia Tech offer is a sign of talent, then you've lost your mind. I'm sure Collins is a great coach. I'm also certain his roster is nowhere near SEC level. If we continue to play Georgia Tech level talent in the secondary (especially at corner, the most important position outside of QB), we will continue to lose to underwhelming teams a few times a year.
Dude you’re embarrassing yourself. He was signed as a baseball player and was suppose to play baseball. When teams realized he would ply football, UT and Clemson put the full court press on. Said not good offer lists, and two posters showed you good offer lists for many players and you keep finding more excuses.

Im so tired of this argument. I just can’t take it anymore and I’m not trying to go off on you directly. But this is just completely false. Charles, Flowers, Tank, Hadden, and Burrell we’re all recruited heavily by a lot of schools. It’s our job to bring out their potential. We have not done that. Is it on the players for giving too much cushion? Is it on the players for not knowing their assignments for two years straight and not playing zone correctly? Is it because of the perceived lack of talent that our CB’s never turn to look for the ball? That is all on coaching. Every DB bails way too early and many times presnap showing the QB that we are in a soft zone and the wide receivers will be open every play for 5–10 yards.

I’ll never understand always blindly following coaches and blaming players until we fire everyone and then everyone say yeah we weren’t coached well. It’s blatantly obvious that Banks is a bad DC and is in over his head. It is also obvious that our DB’s are not coached well and make bad QBs look like Patrick Mahomes every week.
Wish we had kept Steele around as a DC

Yeah, he specifically named a bunch of guys who he claimed to be highly recruited and was wrong about nearly all of them (Tank and Burrell being the exception). And is now trying to defend a claim that GT=highly recruited.
Dude I named four and you literally said half of them had good offers. Are you insane? Then I proved why Flowers was a big get. So that’s 75% of the players named that you were wrong on.

Why? I've never felt a loss that was more on us than this one. Rattler played great but this was about us. Our defense has been carried for 2 seasons and when we needed them to make a stop they just couldn't. I love our guys but there's talent issues -- big ones -- when it comes to our secondary.
It was not just talent issues back there Saturday..it was compounded by nassive effort issues.

Less talented+less effort+ horribly stupid gameplan+hot uber talented QB= historically nightmarishly bad defensive performance.

I sincerely hope and believe not. Danny White strikes me as an astute AD. Heup and Danny need to put the program's needs above the coaching staff's desires. It's over as far as trust for secondary coaching and it was predicted by many of us on here. Other than UK and LSU, the secondary and at times, the entire D has stunk against the SEC as well as Pitt. They also had too many series against the light weight OOC that stunk. This is the second season, the season that reveals the strengths and weaknesses of the coaching staff as well as roster. We don't expect perfection, just keep it in the mid-20's against mediocre SEC competition.

The issues on D are multiple - player development, scheme, play calling, player rotations (who and when) and possibly recruiting. The later of which we will have no idea since the other three are so screwed up. The reason a crappy O-line like USCe's could contain our pass rush was because of player rotations and the gap techniques Banks' uses with his slants and such. You need those two NFL quality DT's (Big O/Terry) creating havoc at the mesh point and pushing the pocket to flush the QB outside for Young and crew to sack them. Instead he has them slanting most of the time. I hate it. At least half the time the slant is wrong on runs and the pocket does not get pushed on passes. Opposing OC's know what they are doing.

The other problem with this same issue is the rotations. It has felt like we are back to Georgia State and Chaney sending in every offensive player he had to play a lot of snaps at the exclusion of winning. They are not doing that on O with Heup and Golesh, it's just on Banks' side of the ball. I get wanting to keep them fresh, but you also need to stop the other team more than zero times in the first half and half the time in the second. Nine freakin' TD's. Leave your starters in for more than a few minutes at a time, for several possessions in the first quarter, to develop some consistency and cohesion playing together. But select the right starters. It is criminal that Mitchell is playing, much less starting. If Banks is out at least use Herring to gain experience since he is the future. I promise he will make more plays than Mitchell in his first two minutes on the field. It's dumb stuff like that over and over.

You're preaching to the choir. DW is an astute AD who'll expect his HC to tell him when he needs to make a change and why. Hiring good people, letting them do their job and providing support when they need it is how he runs the department. It's been a winning strategy so far... though he might need to get more involved with the LVs sooner rather than later.

The difference a week makes in this sport. Last week I couldn't find any S Carolina fans with a short term or long term positive outlook. This week, they're basking in their glory. Every player is the best ever, everything is awesome.

I just want us to win out and have a statement game in a significant bowl.

Defense really does have me worried. They're broken.
Lol...Clemson is going to wreck them. Just like AR did after playing us, Rattler will return to his erratic innacurate self and they will get destroyed.

Meant to say Turnage. Also not sure why everyone is upset that we finally have a cb with some confidence. Would love to see confidence and competence, but it’s a start

Don’t worry @bignewt, Danny White is not asleep at the wheel and has heard your pleas.

Help is on the way!

LMAO! I can’t even anymore with you. Wow!!!

Confidence?!?! He got beat every play and played ten yards off of the receivers. He alone gave up at least five first downs and talked after all of them for no reason. There is a difference between confident and being a complete idiot and talking for doing nothing.
