Ah my friend, we could be better next year. Milton will have 2 full years going in to learning the system and learning how to be a better QB. We will have some young but better athletes on the Defensive side of the ball and some young studs on the Offense as well. We could surprise the all knowing sports folks again. It will not be easy but we can do it.

Nobody had us picked to be where we are now and nobody(outside Volnation) will have us picked to be as good next year, that's GREAT !!!! Lets see what changes come on the defensive side of the ball as far as coaching and if we rate in the top third in the nation on D and top Ten on offense we will be hard to handle by anybodies standards.

Saturday stung, no way around it but with that being said we have not been in the position to get let down in a great while. It was ugly to say the least but maybe, just maybe that will give them a new sense of urgency as well as a desire to never let that happen again. This is the time we will find out if the players really believe in what they are doing or is it just lip service....I think they believe and will just want to prove to everybody else in the SEC we had a hiccup and not a collapse moving forward.

I really think this is the beginning of a VOLS era we will all be proud of !!!! GO VOLS!!!!

Man, I hope you are right. At Alabama, at Florida, and Georgia with another loss or 2. A&M is terrible this year, but they have players. The main hope I have is those teams probably will have new QB’s and Milton is a quality QB for us. That may be our saving grace.

Literally not a single person has said that. Not a single one. But I hope that felt good getting out.
A lot of the crap some people in here say sure sounds like it...and the FF idiots sure are just outright saying it.

I'm not saying you are one of them. As far as I can remember all you have said is Banks and Martizez suck and need to go.

That’s what I thought about USC…. If we have Tim Banks as DC and Willie Martinez “coaching” our DB’s next year then we can get embarrassed by anybody.
Yeah...if SC can do THAT to us...on any given Saturday any body can.

I will now always think in the back of my mind that anybody can absolutely torch us as long as Banks and Martinez are involved.

I don't get it. No one predicted we would beat Bama, LSU, Florida, and Pitt and have a chance to win 10-11 games this year. We have played above our heads all year long. Now, we have a really bad loss to a bad SC team, and we're trying to find something wrong with us. Why can't the reason be that we have played above our heads all year, especially with the lack of talent we have on defense. We went to a road environment at night, we played horrible and also lost our starting QB, both starting corners, and a starting WR while also missing our best LB and at the same time SC played outstanding. Yes, some of that was due to our poor defense, but anyone who watches that game can see that Rattler played at a level he had never played at before. He was dropping dimes, even when on the run he was putting balls on the money. Sometimes that happens. Why do we have to find something wrong?

I don't understand this firing everybody, looking for internal problems, trying to find something to blame. Fact is, we are still a low talent team on defense and SC played above their heads and we played horribly. But this doesn't mean that everything is burning down, or that our program is about to be in shambles, or whatever else I've seen.

Look at other teams. UGA went 8-4 in year 1 with a loss to Vandy. Yes, they went to the NC in year 2, but they played no one to get there. They had a pitiful SOC that year, and they got blown out by AU in the regular season. They got to go to the NC because they played AU again, instead of Alabama in Atlanta and then went on to lose to Bama for the championship game. That playoff appearance doesn't happen if they play Bama in Atlanta.

In year 3, GA went 11-3, with a blowout loss to a mediocre LSU team, a loss to Bama in Atlanta, and a loss to a mediocre Texas team in the bowl game.
In year 4, Kirby lost to a 4-8 (4-8!!!!) SC team in a day time game at Willie B and then got blown out by LSU in Atlanta.

In year 5, Kirby went 8-2 with blowout losses to Florida and Alabama. Uncompetitive losses in both games.

And Kirby did that with far more, far more talent than what Heup has. Our roster would not compete with any of those rosters, especially on defense, and we're wanting to burn the program down looking for answers because of one bad loss. So many are panicked because of one bad loss? Give me a break! That doesn't mean that some changes shouldn't be made on defense, but I just don't understand why there are so many looking for explanations to what happened. It's year 2.

I agree with Bass in his post above. This team was overachieving and we started smelling ourselves. Comparing to Kirby is ridiculous because he was loaded and has had top recruiting classes. Hype came into a huge mess and managed in two years to get these guys to number 1 in the country with a very tough schedule.

I am also starting to agree with Involuntary about Kelly being pretty Holly. That team is LOADED. There is no reason on earth they should be playing this mediocre. I don't understand the constant substitutions. How can you even find consistency like that? Sometimes you just need to play the best of the best most of the minutes and then if the rest of the "stars" don't like it, so be it. Key may be the tallest girl out there, but she has to play second fiddle to ball hogs, who seldom hit a shot. They are a mess right now. I hope they work it out, but I am not holding my breath.

If we're going full BVS...I think @ South Carolina is the biggest trap game on the schedule.

With our fans likely selling out the remaining home games I don't see Kentucky or Missouri being problems as far as being motivated/focused. If we lose to Georgia we'll be very focused for Missouri and if we upset Georgia we'll be very focused for Missouri.

But with South Carolina being a road game and being the end of the season I would worry about that being one we look past thinking about Atlanta.

I really DON'T think that'll be the case, I think the environment that Heupel and staff have created keeps the team focused regardless of who they play. They want to get better at what they do and every Saturday is an opportunity to sharpen their skills, regardless of who you're playing. They also have their goals set on playing in the SEC Championship game and having a shot to make the CFP. So every win is important to accomplish that.

Ugh... I knew I had BVS about this game. I even posted it. :(

Re: the no holding calls, there was one play where Byron Young was being held so aggressively that he was nearly parallel to the ground, held up only by the SC player holding him lol. Can't do anything but laugh, it was egregious.
He got mauled the whole game...but according to some people it wouldn't have mattered if there had been multiple holds called on every drive they had.

Im so tired of this argument. I just can’t take it anymore and I’m not trying to go off on you directly. But this is just completely false. Charles, Flowers, Tank, Hadden, and Burrell we’re all recruited heavily by a lot of schools. It’s our job to bring out their potential. We have not done that. Is it on the players for giving too much cushion? Is it on the players for not knowing their assignments for two years straight and not playing zone correctly? Is it because of the perceived lack of talent that our CB’s never turn to look for the ball? That is all on coaching. Every DB bails way too early and many times presnap showing the QB that we are in a soft zone and the wide receivers will be open every play for 5–10 yards.

I’ll never understand always blindly following coaches and blaming players until we fire everyone and then everyone say yeah we weren’t coached well. It’s blatantly obvious that Banks is a bad DC and is in over his head. It is also obvious that our DB’s are not coached well and make bad QBs look like Patrick Mahomes every week.
Coaching isn't great, but the players are also to blame. A lot of them were out there just jogging around Saturday...pretty sure they weren't coached to half-ass it.

If we're talking about DC's, we need to see which DC's have excelled in quick paced offenses. Otherwise your comparing apples to oranges. Below are the 24 fastest offenses in college football and their defensive ranks:

1. Texas Tech = 80
2. Oklahoma St = 117
3. Buffalo = 89
4. SMU = 115
5. Wake Forest = 88
6. TXSA = 86
7. Akron = 110
8. Mississippi = 75
9. Purdue = 34
10. Arkansas = 118 (No way on Odom for me)
11. James Madison = 14!!!!!!!
12. GA Southern = 129
13. Clemson = 18 (Huge talent disparity which shows need for 4-5 stars on D-line and DB)
14. Marshall = 10!!!!
15. Middle Tenn = 95
16. Tennessee = 100
17. Illinois = 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
18. UCF = 40
19. Oklahoma = 112
20. Iowa State = 8!!!!!!!!!!!
21. Indiana = 123
22. Georgia State = 82
23. Washington = 49
24. LSU = 34
Heupel coached with Illinois DC Ryan Walters at Missouri.

I can't wait to see what Milton can do Saturday playing with all the offensive starters. Will be the 1st time this year and give us a great preview of what might be in store next year. The guy has worked his tail off, and by all accounts, is said to be a great team mate. My gut feeling is that he is gonna ball out!

Charles: Meh list
Flowers: Meh list
Tank: Good list, overrated as it was just us, FSU, and USCjr recruiting him
Hadden: Meh list.
Warren: Good list, overrated as it was Us, FL, and NCST recruiting him, and at the time only FL was decent

I'd keep a few of the secondary players but most of them should/or I wish would leave. Luckily the 3 stars we have now seem to be different. A perfect example of this would be Rickey Gibson. It was us and UGA battling for him, right?

remember when Clemson had to deal with the "Clemsoning" tag for like five years?

2011 (10-4) worked their way from unranked to number 6 by Halloween, and lost 3 of their last 5 to end the season (incl. loss to rival SC). Still ended up in the Orange Bowl and got S M O K E D by WVU 70-33. "Clemsoning" is born, I think by Dan and Ty on the Solid Verbal Podcast. I remember those days and episodes vividly.

2012 (11-2) got to top 10 by the time they played FSU week 4, lost 49-37. Lost to rival SC to end the season.

2013 (11-2) got to number 3 for their week 7 game against FSU and got destroyed 51-14. Lose to SC at the end of the season.

2014 (10-3) blown out at home to UGA to start the season. Lost to FSU again early in the season. Stomped by GT late in the season. Finally overcame SC.

2015 got back inside the top 10 and a reporter actually asked Dabo about "Clemsoning"

RIP "Clemsoning" as they finished Runner Up

2016 National Champions

2017 Semi-Finalist

2018 National Champions

2019 Runner-Up

2020 Semi-Finalist

2021 back to reality

2022 probably not making it in

The point is...

It's so rarely a linear rise to the top.

Dabo and Clemson had to play ok, then good, but good wasn't good enough, to the point that the national media coined a new phrase to make fun of them. Good became better. Better became best. Now almost any program would kill for their success.

You take licks in this sport. Sometimes you're the laughing stock. Ups and downs, just like in life.

I had forgotten all about clemsoning
