Heupel needs a contract extension and raise now!! Kentucky just gave Stoops.an extension through 2030 and raise to a guaranteed $9 Million per year and an increased buyout!! Now is the time to dispassionately think long term, Tennessee cannot afford to risk another coaching change!! Heupel is an incredible talent and must stay!! We will go 10-2 and to a major bowl this year, beaten top 10 teams and in the running for the national championship...astounding by any objective measure

Man, I hadn't seen the Mark Stoops contract extension. He's now the 6th highest paid coach in college football. That's unreal.

At $9 million, Stoops’ salary would rank sixth among all college football coaches, according to a USA Today database. Only Alabama’s Nick Saban, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Georgia’s Kirby Smart, LSU’s Brian Kelly and Michigan State’s Mel Tucker are set to be paid more this year. Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher’s salary is also $9 million this season.

Why? We now basing our football programs strategy and payout performance on Kentucky’s football strategy and performance? That would be a helluva risk taking.

Damn...I thought this was the offseason that Stoops would leave. He is committing career suicide to stay in the SEC now that TN is back and other East teams seem to be improving. But for 9 MI a year, it's worth it.

He already got one this year. Let's give it another year to see what he does in year 3.

He has to first make the necessary coaching changes on defense.

He can have an extension and raise if he extends a boot to willie martinez's ass and raises the expectations on our DBs to looking better than a Division 3 walk on.

I agree and we need to give him money to retain offensive staff and to acquire a new defensive coordinator and secondary coach

I like JH but Stoops has been at KY lot longer than JH at TN. KY is happy to have a coach that gets them 8/9 wins a year and a nice bowl for the fans to enjoy.
Especially after what happened last night I think we should wait at least to end of year and see how JH handles this loss and whatever possibly may be going on in the locker room.

Last night doesn’t eliminate the great work done by Heupel and co this season even though it sucks bad. If we bounce back and beat Vandy next week, last night will be forgiven. 10-2 regular season, breaking the Bama/Florida streak, LSU drubbing on the road/#1 in the country, no trifling things

This is the logic that got us in a whole paying huge buyouts to coaches that were going nowhere. We don't need to get stupid to keep a coach. Ut has made a great commitment to Heupel. If he ever wanted to go, he will go, but throwing crazy money at people out of a fear they may leave is foolish, and we see it's issues at places like A&M, Ok State, as well as with Fulmer, Butch, etc.

absolutely correct, but it doesn't mean UT should get in a bad situation. Why the rush?

Kliff Kingsbury has survived in NFL, so why couldnt Heupel. I am not saying pay the man 9 million but if NFL does come calling its something to think about and then where are we back where we was 2 years ago struggling to find a coach. Everybody says UT is a great job and I think so but why doesnt any big time HC want to come here food for thought
