Not a good day to bring this up...but it is VERY IMPORTANT

Damn...I thought this was the offseason that Stoops would leave. He is committing career suicide to stay in the SEC now that TN is back and other East teams seem to be improving. But for 9 MI a year, it's worth it.

I’m surprised other teams haven’t pursued him. He’s done a good job at a school that isn’t known for football.

Any talk of a raises and/or extensions should wait until after the season is over. At that point all the data for the season including bowl game will be available for evaluation.

No one, besides OP, disagrees with that. If I'm AD White, I ask coach what we're doing about the defense, how's recruiting, voice concerns, give praise and bump the guy.

Maybe they should listen to the fans about this matter. You don't want the Jimbo situation or worse, another Pruitt situation at UT. Make him earn the contract extension.
And if Oklahoma comes for Heupel and he feels UT doesn't appreciate what he's done for the program and leaves, you will be the first to say: Why'd they let him get away?

What amount of success is enough for you? He recruited hard from the portal. He changed a toxic culture after Pruitt. He developed Hooker into a potential Heisman candidate. He beat Bama after a 15yr drought. He got TN to the #1 ranking......

bbbbbut, but he lost a game he should've won.

You guys are ridiculous.

You can see alot of people on here besides me are not ok with it. Really good way to sink your university into mediocrity for a long time. Playoffs was the goal last night and they failed miserably.

And having a likely 10-2 coach at season's end getting #11 pay is another good way to stay mediocre. AD White should neither listen to fans saying 'Saban pay' nor those like yourself. Again, there's a lot of room between Drinkwitz and Fisher pay to reward the guy without becoming A&M.

Consider the progression of Georgia under Kirby Smart:
first year 8-5 overall / 4-4 in conference
13-2 / 7-1
11-3 / 7-1
12-2 / 7-1
8-2 /7-2
14-1 /8-0 Win national championship
Sometimes it takes time and patience to build a solid program with great talent/ recruits on both sides of the ball -- especially in the SEC

If he can't take fan criticism in stride, then maybe this isn't the right fit. You can see we are all a fun and loving bunch on here when they are winning, but lose a critical game in which you favored by 21 points, the claws are going to come out. Other fan bases are jealous of our passion, because we are a mean and tough bunch and we expect the same from our leaders and football players.

Heupel needs a contract extension and raise now!! Kentucky just gave Stoops.an extension through 2030 and raise to a guaranteed $9 Million per year and an increased buyout!! Now is the time to dispassionately think long term, Tennessee cannot afford to risk another coaching change!! Heupel is an incredible talent and must stay!! We will go 10-2 and to a major bowl this year, beaten top 10 teams and in the running for the national championship...astounding by any objective measure

Contracts should only be 2 years.

College football is a business now, not your dang little league football where your yelling is comical but not bad for business.

If you want the Vols to be successful in the new era of football, you'd better look at it like a business and not an upset Dad of a 12yo.

Kirby had a cakewalk too. Ten win roster, more ten plus win seasons than not since 2001, and one losing season since 1997. The fact that it’s taken him this long and he’s only held one trophy is more of an indictment on being slow to progress than a testament to his program building capabilities.

There is no participation trophy in football. It's all about winning. If they gave their all and still loss last night, I wouldn't be on their case so bad.

We didn't just lose a game we should have won. It was a historic loss that will be revisited year in and year out. It was an embarrassment on national television. We beat a 6-6 Florida and a down Alabama at home. that bama win looks a little less good behind the crap stain of Shane beamer hanging 63 on us. Fix that atrociousness. In the meantime the extension and raise he already got his year should suffice.

All the more reason to hold his feet to the fire. It's a business. Don't profit from sucking in business.

So, with that measurement, no coaches other than perhaps Saban deserve raises.

You continue to look ridiculous.

Kirby's record and finally winning a championship is a testament to how hard it is to get thru the SEC each year without a loss. We love to beat each other up. And look at those 7-1 conference records---who do you think those 1 losses were ? What other team in the SEC besides Bama can match that win/loss record for the last decade? What other SEC team besides Bama has won the national championship in the last decade ?

So Heupel has sucked this year overall?

That's a hot take.
Didn't say he sucked this year overall but that embarrassment should give anyone pause to see how he reacts to it before throwing a brinks truck at him. 6-6 Florida that we almost lost because...shock the defense and an Alabama team that's almost as bad on the road as Tennessee doesn't impress nearly as much when staring 63-38 gamecocks in the face

Some people on here obviously don't work in the dog eat dog real world.

Now a 10-2 SEC season would be sucking and deserves #11 pay, but it's the rest of us who don't understand the 'dog eat dog' business world of college football.
Ooookay....

What's the metric they're measured up to?

7-10 wins and a bowl game Kentucky? Sure give average mark stoops a raise

Tennessee should have SECCG and CFP ambitions. Crapping the bed against a gamecock team who had more Ints than TDs up until last night? Nah. The fact that Martinez will walk into his office tomorrow furthers the embarrassment.

A 10-2 season hard fought losing to quality opponents isn't sucking.

Losing by over 3 TDs to a team you were favored by 3TDs is.
