Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

Because that was how it happened.

Like I say, this was widely known and reported by multiple sources at the time. It's not something people just made up. You can disagree as to what Fulmer's motivations were, but just accepting him at his word, he was talked into limiting his candidate field. He wasn't going to expend any political capital on the women's program by getting in a pissing match with its supporters when football was bleeding out, and he took the path of least resistance.

I've posted the full quote somewhere back in this thread. You can interpret it however you want. After all, Majors says ADs tell little whitel lies when they speak about these things, so how can we ever come to agreement about it? This narrative that Fulmer hired Harper as strictly a convenience or a lazy bowing to the blue hairs is designed to smear Harper with "evidence" that she is an illegitimate hire. And that pisses me off. It's obvious to me that he thought he hired the best coach he could get at the time for the money he had to spend, which was less than necessary to hire a Jeff Walz type of coach, and that he thought Harper was an excellent hire. After all, she was a very experienced head coach and had just had a SS run with a mid-major squad. So far, despite the poor start to this season and the problem with HS recruiting, Kellie has justified the hire by improving this team's performance year over year.

Say what you will, she has assembled her best team to-date.

Simply a matter of figuring out which piece goes where.

He may have not had the money to spend any more than he did. That isn't "going cheap." That's fiscal responsibility. So, where were you with the 750,000 shortfall to hire a Jeff Walz type? Did you offer to pay the difference? Or did you just decide to go cheap on the hire, too?

We're not that much different from our team of 25 years ago. Here is the 97-98 team.

- We have our two, maybe three, 'Miques.
- We have two centers.
- We have a shooter off the bench like Ace. Maybe two.

Who is our Kellie?

You're a troll.
How so? Seems you just toss things out if you don’t like what someone says. You can feel free to not comment on each of my post if you feel I’m a “troll” which is the way out. But you choose to engage. Is what I’ve said not true? Too many of the poster are starting to question what others have said for awhile. Are they trolls or just being honest to what they see. I wish this team the best and hope they prove me wrong. Just curious, where do you see this team finishing this year? 32, SS, E8, Final 4, NC?

You're a troll.
Went back to check what the circumstances of this thread’s origins were.
1) Started with a tirade that the ‘21-22 team was among the worst in LV history spouting statistics without context. That was a healthy 9-0 start. Then Stanford, the first crack, and the trolls fed. They fed well. And they continue to feed.
They had no idea at that point we would streak though the next nine, nor after a few bumps in the road finish with a SS appearance. Like Kellie, some are negative but I refuse that.

And say what you will, her best team to-date is off the program's worst start in 40 years...
Bad luck on scheduling. We needed to play OSU at their place for Horston. Last minute addition which was too much with Indiana already scheduled. Put your big girl panties on and we’ll get through this stretch.

Yep, no shame in losing by double digits to both the second and third best teams of the Big Ten. It's a murderer's row for the best team Kellie has ever assembled...

What likely happens once Jordan returns is that she and Jackson will need a few weeks to feel out how to compliment each other and provide two big time scoring threats. If that happens, and they play complimentary to each other, then the rest of the lineup benefits as well.

Somewhere on this LV team is at a minimum 4/5’s of that stellar defense and rebounding (2nd in nation) from last year, and if the new players get on board with that then it is close to 100% back if not all the way back, it’s not like Rae was AA defensive team last year, especially with the injury.

That’s the big question right now…..where is that defense from last season?

Lady Vols weren’t even competitive in these games, one at home one in Nashville. Doesn’t give anyone confidence things will improve. Jmo

Nick Saban says you always want to lose a few early in the season. That gives you good material for motivation later in the season. I predict we will have another difficult game with Rutgers in that gym tomorrow with funny lights and bad background.

We currently have too many players. Hopefully (???), Kellie & staff can sort it out. I will certainly admit that we haven't yet found our good form. May not be enough balls to go around. We shall see.

I believe turnovers will reduce as the players learn how to play with each other. No one wants to make a turnover so I don't see attitude as an issue. I fully anticipate some turnovers from athleticism on both sides and game speed. 11 turnovers per game is top 20. We are at #297 with an average of 20.7 turnovers per game. Not doing as well on rebounding either at #153 with 39.33 rpg. Top 20 is 49 rpg. I would be more inclined to believe attitude was affecting rebounding though.
I believe that our turnover problem is the result of carelessness and being too casual with our passes. Another issue is not thinking about what you are doing and taking unnecessary careless chances. A lot of that is attitude and disorganization. What is needed is an attitude adjustment. That adjustment starts with the coaching staff.

Yes but we have played two very good teams who also have the ability to go deep into the NCAA tournament. Those losses sting but we will get better because of them. IMO these 2 losses may help this team in the long run. We may end up becoming our best team in 40 years, but we have to develop into that team, and expectations that from day 1 we would be that team were unrealistic
