Going on record here as being all-in, ride-or-die for this team

Guys, put Justine, with Puckett or Sara, I guarantee you we would rain 3's on any opponent....The idea is to be bold, not the same old LVs boring offense...

We need at least 2 big guns on the floor at all times, remember my pals, attack from the air, not from the ground...Bomb the hell out of em...

When I was a collection specialist, I always used both hands to get the degenerate to pay his debt when he was unwilling to cooperate....Ah, the good ol' days.

That would be different. I'm not convinced that we shoot well enough night-in / night-out to be a bomb squad. But, the shake and bake isn't working so willing to try something new.

To be fair, Tess is actually hitting deep 3s at a good clip. I believe both Justine and Sara could also do that given the same amount of playing time.

The question is which of the 3 can do the other things best, and I still believe in the long run that will be Sara with Justine coming on to close the gap. But apparently what Coach sees in practice leads her to Tess.

Also, "easy lay ups"? You kidding? What team and post players you been watching?
Tess has the best +/- on the team and she’s consistent and Kellie trusts her. Through 3 games she’s 2nd in the SEC with 9 made 3’s and 3rd in 3 pt %. I think Sara just has a little mental block, but I’m sure she’ll be fine

That's the spirit my friend....Kellie brought in all these new players and we're going to do the same old boring offense that hasn't worked for untold number of years, is just nuts....It's doomed to fail again, and again, just like it is.

All this offensive talent and we try and force feed a player that is usually double teamed, and has trouble scoring when she is open....Where is the logic in that?

There's trouble in River City, and we are the trouble...Be creative Kellie...Be bold Kellie...Think outside the box Kellie...You have the needed talent sitting on your bench.

The preferred method for defeating the Lady Vols...

# 1: Double team Key...They will try for 20 plus seconds of the shot clock trying to get the ball to her..If they can't get the ball to her, they will throw up a wild shot out of desperation...

#2: They will try and drive the lane, trying to either get fouled, or make a lay up...Rarely will they do a pull up jumper....They are also prone to doing a quick "dump off pass" to Key when driving the lane.

#3: The 3 point shooter is usually adequate, but will not take enough shots to greatly affect the score either way...Rarely will they have more than one three point shooter on the floor at the same time...

#4: They play an inside out game...The ball will almost always try to go to an inside post player for a quick score, before going, if blocked, to the outside shooter...And then the ball is often tossed back in toward the post player.

#5: The point guards, on breakaways, will often try and take the ball to the hoop, which is easy to smack away, instead of passing to the open player..

My take on this is the offense is working far better than it has in the last two seasons. The problem I see is getting severely beat on shot attempts because were turning it over 20 times a game and the other team is getting the benefit of far more possessions. 216 points scored on 176 field goal attempts is far better than we did last season. Still if your only getting less than 60 shots at the basket offensive efficiency doesn't mean much unless you own the free throw line bigtime and we haven't. Opponents have scored 231 points on 202 attempts so you see were giving opponents 9 more shot attempts per game. So for me stop the turnovers and rebound get the shot attempts up to 70 by taking care of the ball. Play some defense cause 87 Ohio State, 79 Indiana are going to be losses to almost anyone that can manage to put up that kind of points on us. If we could cut the turnovers down, get a few more offensive rebounds the 72 points were averaging goes to 80 and then if your playing any defense at all your winning. I said at the beginning of the season that if we could score 75 to 80 points we'd win almost every game because no one could score 80 on us. Was I wrong as were giving up 77 a game and that is only true cause UMass only scored 65 on 30 percent shooting. How does a team score 65 shooting 30 percent? When you allow them to shoot it 78 times to your 62 it can happen even if they shoot poorly. This has been the pattern for Coach Harper teams giving up a big differential of possessions in games and it continues again this year. If she can't get that corrected then many more losses are coming.

When Texas came out to stop them, they went right by them for a lay up, or kicked it out for a deep 3 ball....It was masterful (I hated it)

GT, our three ball shooters can't put the ball on the floor and drive by a good defender. Just not fast or quick enough. We should have have a lineup of Powell who is a decent three point shooting threat) at the point, Key or Jillian or Franklin at the five, Jordy and Rickea on the wings to drive and slash and rebound, and a shooter, either Puckett or Justine or Darby. The shooter would make the opponent pay if they collapse inside, and Jordy and Rickea would make them pay if they come out to stop the shooters. Walker doesn't add anything IMO. She's got the toughness that Kellie is looking for, but not the other things this team needs now.

Sounds like a really good plan to me.

I am most surprised that the LVs have not been forcing TO themselves. I expected them to be a pressing team with the players and depth they have. Instead, their Defense has seemed passive and reactive in these opening games. And, they are not really playing that uptempo offensively.

Compounding these problems, the current line-up (lets put Jordan H. back in) has the same problem the Lakers have with AD, LeBron, and Westbrook-- Horston, Powell, and Jackson are all ball-dominant players who are best in the paint and not consistent outside shooters -- though Powell did hit a few against U of I,.

Then you add Jordan Walker who has exactly the same profile and Key who is best in the low block but keeps being pulled out to the high post to create room for the other four. To stay in the game, that team needs to control the boards and plays lights out defense but it is not built to win in a game where the "3" is King.

They need some balance so something has to give. Tess or Justine need to be in the starting rotation (with Jordan Walker becoming the # 2 PG). Jordan H is going to have play more off the ball for Powell to be an effective PG.

So, Tamari, Rickea, Tess/Justine, Jordan H. and Jasmine would be a more balanced starting rotation.

then Franklin subs for Key, Jordan W. for Powell, Tess for Justine (or vice versa), then its Hollingshead, Miles, Suarez and Puckett used as needed.

Per some other posters, I do think there could be a time to play a shooters line-up with say Key guarding the paint, and then Powell, Jackson, Tess, and Justine. And if matchups allow, maybe even going smaller in the post -- for example, Puckett had some decent moments in the post last season. make other teams adjust to a spread offense. People keeping Pat Summitt this and that but right now one big problem is that Kellie IS PLAYING a CPS offense and that just doesn't work anymore, particularly when the defense and rebounding part is not in place.

I could be wrong but I never felt Pat played a structured offense. Same with Holly and now Kellie to some extent. It's more one-on-one with a few screens thrown in from the posts. A lot of coaches seem to use this strategy when they have talent and it still works but requires good passing (a weakness of ours for the past decade or more) and timing (ironically something that takes time). Three games into the season and they are slowly getting more used to playing with each other. I think there is too much talent and good coaching to fail. Obviously there is disagreement on that subject.

I am sure you remember Pat working with Villanova coach Harry Perretta so she could learn his motion offense and then Phil Jackson to learn the triangle offense. Try as she might, CPS (and her staff) never cracked the code on how to coach a great offensive team, maybe because her heart remained on the defensive side of the ball. And you are correct, that she needed all world players like Gordon, Holdsclaw, and Parker who could win games with their one-on-one prowess whereas the kind of clever ball movement, "shooters every where you look" that Indiana displayed has never something seen on Rocky Top.

I felt in stretches last season, Kellie had the team playing much better in the half court and I fully expect that improved play to return. I agree that this team has just not figured out to play together and Kellie is still struggling for the right line-up. All those writing her coaching obituary will soon be silenced. It s a long season and this team has a HIGH ceiling.

Actually, I was just reading through this thread when I saw your post and remembered what you said in another thread. Too bad for us you can't keep your word. Why don't you stick to your word and do everyone a favor and just stop posting like you promised?

Guys, all of us, with maybe an exception or two, want Kellie to succeed as coach...She is a very likeable woman and has a great enough looking face, to be the face of the Lady Vols...

What some of us are trying to point out is we don't have to have an offense that is built solely around the old low post atack...

For the first time, perhaps in this past century, this team is loaded with enough offensive talent, that if given a solid game plan, which features the three point artist as the main attack, they can rip the nets to shreds...

Imagine if you will, the ball is inbounded and instead of trying to go inside to Key, who has two players draped over her, the ball is whipped around to a waiting Justine, Sara, or Tess at the 3 point line and she is free to unleash the round terror into the arena sky, and score!....

Imagine if you will.....A half court game that is not defeated because our girls can't get the ball inside to the low post...

It's a reality, and it's sitting on the bench....

As Madtown said, Coach Pat Summitt. Did you see that in my post?

Oh. No, sorry,

The problem with the CPS system is that I don't think any of our current players can outshoot Coach Harper from outside the 3-point line.

Do you really think that is the case? I think the truth is that most can. I guess you're trying to say using a little satire is we don't shoot the ball well right now. I think everyone would agree and are offering solutions they think might help. Basketball is a funny game in that improvement is not linear. We're about to find out who has the toughness and desire.
