I don't think that's a totally accurate depiction of the situation just imo.

Yeah, I would (and did) call 8-4 a success. But I also had the expectation that we'd beat USC, Mizzou, and Vandy. That was part of the equation. Beat who we are supposed to beat, steal toss ups, and maybe get an upset.

I absolutely would be disappointed with losses to teams we are better than. Any team that beats Bama has absolutely zero excuse to lose to Vanderbilt. Something is seriously wrong if that happens, and it's absolutely a disappointing finish - even if the final record is 8-4 there.

I was expecting at least 8 wins this season - but I also expected at least 2 losses. And I considered Pitt, LSU, and UF games that could go either way. The rest I 100% expect to win and it would be a disappointment to not win those.
So the wins over Mizzou, SC, Candy, are more valuable than the wins over Bama, LSU, UF, Pitt?

I was fairly certain anyone would take an 8-4 season with wins over LSU, Pitt, Florida, and Bama. We are not losing another game this season, I'm fairly certain. However, if we finished 8-4 I would still be happy with the season for what it is, year 2, and the roster we have. Sure, I'd be disappointed with the finish, but I can't discount the wins. It's all assumptions and if this team somehow goes 8-4, then something terrible (injuries, etc) must've happened to account for it.

Either way, I'm not dying on a hill telling people what they should be happy with. Just stating I think it's. . . odd. . . how people can change expectations so easily.

Arguing it because of how people move the goal posts. Anyone wouldve said "I dont care how we get there, 8-4 would be a success." Now, after we've achieved more than expected, it's no longer a success. Bologna. It would suck to lose any games, but calling it a failure would discount the wins over Pitt, Florida, Alabama, LSU.

No Tennessee fan on the planet would've called 8-4, with wins over Pitt, UF, LSU, and Bama a failure preseason. In fact, I'd bet any fan would've begged for those results.
You really shouldn't take Tony's name in vain. But if we lost to any of SCar, Mizzou, or Vandy, that's a huge, HUGE disappointment.

Regarding the 8-4 discussion, I think winning all 4 of the games mention took everyone (including myself) by surprise and changed the trajectory of the season..Going 8-4 ain’t gonna happen, that ship has sailed.

15-0
Just like the goal posts moving out at the end of the bama game……

It's not odd at all. You're making a terrible argument. This team has already shown itself to be far better than just an 8 win team and certainly better than most expected them to be. Expectations can and do change. Context is important and you have to toss it in the toilet to make your argument work. Vanderbilt, Missouri, and South Carolina are all bad teams (despite SC's newfound ranking) that Tennessee has no business losing to. I would argue that those preseason expectations included wins over those teams and not over teams like Florida, LSU, and Alabama...so asking folks who they would pick to lose to in a hypothetical 8-4 season is kind of dumb. Those picking 8-4 preseason wouldn't have accepted a loss to any of those teams before the season...why on earth would they do so now?

So then, you're saying the wins over SC, Mizzou, UK, Candy are more valuable than the wins over Pitt, LSU, Florida and Bama.

I simply disagree.

You wouldn't have been happy with 8-4 preseason with wins over Pitt, UF, LSU, and Bama? I think pretty much everyone would've taken that deal all day long.
