Just started BJJ. Been fun so far, just lots of conditioning and not know positions/submissions. Anyone have any experience here; best conditioning and maybe YouTube channel or anything. Thanks
Been training for 16 years. Keep going. Black Belts are white belts that just didn't quit. Some of my best friendships are from training partners.

Yeah I'm a purple belt.

There's tons of good YT channels. Like, take your pick. The only advice I would give you there is not to fall in the trap of finding wild low percentage techniques on YT and only trying those. Stick to the basics. Chew Jitsu is a friend of a friend and I really like his channel.

As far as conditioning... Swimming really helped me get ready for competitions. But the best way is just to roll more rounds.

I would add good old fashioned running. Long distance running. Learning to control your breathing is the biggest thing beginners face @Volsdeep4 . It's why people who just started are gassed 2-3 minutes into sparring and higher belts can roll for an hour.

Some people thought they were going to dark mode jerseys for Akron. Deerpark even said that’s what he heard over the summer and hadn’t heard anything contrary to it since but Dark mode jerseys for Akron just never made sense.

Lol...why would we go dark mode for Akron? DeerPark doesn't know anything anymore.

That is exactly where my cardio lost it. The 3 min mark and I was gassed and couldn’t do anything haha. Do you recommend long distance running? All advise from someone with your experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

This is good advice. It’s fun to learn the sexy sweeps and subs, but if you can’t get to the position to apply them, then they’re not worth much as a beginner. Try to be patient and focus on positioning and basics. Hip movement is life. Most importantly…just keep showing up.

If you really want to dive into technical videos, BJJfanatics.com is the way. Bernardo Faria posts quite a bit in social media for free, or you can buy stuff too.

I try to continue to do explosive free weight movements to keep strength up and also interval/agility training for added cardio. I’m a big fan of DVD / streaming workouts like Insanity, Asylum with the ladder, etc. Maybe worth checking out.

Side note: I went to Origin BJJ Immersion Camp this year and it was amazing. Highly recommend if you can swing it.

Good luck!

I asked them a couple weeks ago if they'd still be posting after we dropped 50 on them. . . of course they said they would. . . it only took UK beating them for them to disappear like a fart in the wind.
Dropping 50 on Florida is packed full of awesomeness..I’d be happy with a win but scoring 50 or more is an added bonus..🙌🙌

For BJJ nothing truly beats more rolling. Anything that requires you to really control your breathing while continue the workout will help. Running, swimming, or a plyometrics workout has always helped me the best.

A lot of the reason you were gassed is there is a lot of muscle fatigue that will happen quickly with the pushing, pulling, wrestling etc especially when your breathing is most likely crazy fast. Watch higher belts roll and/or you yourself roll with as many purple belts and up as you can. Watch how they conserve energy and breathe. When I was a white and blue belt I tried to roll with as many brown and black belts as possible because you learn something every time.

Now as a black belt I never turn down a lower belt who wants to roll. I will put them in positions they learned during class during live sparring to let them work on the escapes etc they just learned. If you have training partners like that then do that as much as possible.
