To anyone here who may know about modern engines, i know some here are experts:
Older engines that had plug wires and a distributor could get a good and noticeable bump in power by upgrading the ignition system to an MSD or similar.....todays engines which have neither a central distributor nor plug wires, but instead "coil packs" atop every sparkplug/cylinder are totally different. My questions are these:
1. Is it even a good idea to upgrade an ignition on a modern design engine like the 1.8L VTEC engine in my Civic coupe?
2. Would boosting the spark significantly like in older engines not fry the coilpacks on each cylinder?
3. I have a DCsports short intake with a cone filter etc. It allows WAY more airflow at all RPM, should i get a bigger fuel pump? Maybe a tune (chip/flash)?
Btw...i highly recommend to anyone here getting a peformance intake on their vehicle. Mine sounds and runs much better, and may even get better gas mileage. Shrubhuggers made all those stupid regulations regarding emissions ...which took V8s from the 60s making 300+ hp and had them making 170 to 200hp with the same displacement in the 70s. Fun fact: a 1994 mustang GT with a 5.0L (302ci) made 215hp. That was a 10hp bump from the year before. Absolutely ridiculous. They make twice that hp now. These same regulations hurt new vehicles greatly other than perhaps the real performance vehicles which now make record HP each year...in the last scream before dying.....giving way to the ________ and their forced shift to electrics.
