I am not sure how much McHale and Bird worked out in the gym outside the basketball court. It looked like perhaps none at all. Might have been why both suffered from injuries late in their careers. Parish ended up playing longer than both. I still wonder how good these Celtics would have been had Len Bias not passed away too soon. Could you imagine a team that had Bird, McHale, Parish, Bias, DJ, and Ainge? Now that would have been the best team ever assembled.

Those Lakers teams of the 80s beat them head to head in the Finals. The Lakers won 5 titles during the 80s and played in 8 Finals that decade. So I'll have to give the edge to the Lakers over the Celtics as the best team of the 80s. It was ultimately the Pistons that ended that Celtics run as the best team in the Eastern Conference.

By the time Reggie Lewis became a Celtic the big 3 were much older. Plus the Pistons became the best in the East then the Bulls after that. Then the Knicks had gotten better with Riley as their coach.

Reggie Lewis belongs in the Basketball Hall of Fame. If Petrovic is in then Lewis should be as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think only 5 teams played in the NBA Finals in the 80s.

Lakers and Rockets from the Western Conference. 76ers, Celtics and Pistons from the Eastern Conference.

The Bucks actually swept the Celtics (with Bird, McHale, and Parish) in the 1983 Eastern Conference semifinals. This prompted the Celtics to acquire Dennis Johnson in the off-season. The next season they won the NBA championship in Johnson's first season with the team.

Lol. I was just joking. However as a Celtics fan I have a soft spot in my heart for The Chief. He held his own against the best and perhaps his PPG would have been better if he was not on those loaded Celtics teams. He also wore that Celtics uniform for 14 seasons. Longer than both Bird and McHale. People often forget that. Only Paul Pierce and John Havlicek played more seasons for the Celtics.

And yes my Avatar has Thomas and Dumars. I just liked that photo and did enjoy that run the Bad Boys had starting at the end of the 80s.

Notice how Jordan couldn't beat the Pistons until some other pieces came together. Phil Jackson became their head coach. Pippen and Grant reached their peak around 1990. Grant was more important than people realize. The Bulls also needed guys like Grant, Cartwright, Perdue, and Levingston to match up with Laimbeer, Salley, Edwards, and Rodman. Once they had the big guys to match up with the Pistons big guys that is when they finally beat them.

Pretty sure bird's main problem was his back, which he injured while shoveling gravel for his mom's driveway.

I would also say his style of play contributed to it as well. He was constantly diving after loose balls and getting fouled hard as well. He wasn't afraid to go after rebounds and would try and guard anyone whether it was Kareem or Dominique.

The NBA was much better back then than it is now. I watch the playoffs when the Warriors are playing bc of Steph Curry. He is from charlotte and is aunt lived 4 houses down from my Moms house growing up. She is the chick on the John Boy and Billy radio show that has been on in Charlotte forever. Her name is Jackie and she is married to my HS defensive coordinator. Was a big fan of Steph at Davidson...even bigger when coach K offered him a scholarship to Duke to transfer after his sophomore year at Davidson . Steph said " they didnt want me then, so i dont want them (Duke) now " and stayed at Davidson all 4 years including carrying them in March Madness. Stephs dad , Dell Curry, was great for the Charlotte Hornets back in the Larry Johnson/Alonzo Mourning days . Prettiest shot I have ever seen in person, Dell was deadly from 3 point range. No wonder that Steph is by far the best shooter in NBA history. You guys should check out YouTube videos of his warmups and crazy shots...he is amazing. His 50/50 range starts at crossing half court if he is open. Its crazy to watch.

Nope. It was Charles Barkley. Shot over 60% from the field and 7 out of 8 from 3point range for the Games. People forget about Chuck....Barkley was a monster inside and could shoot too.

Everyone in the NBA got fouled hard before about the year 2000. They didn't play pansy ball back then. If today's NBA teams had to play the late-80's/early 90's Detroit Pistons, they would forfeit and walk off the court in tears about 10 minutes into the game.

If yall haven't seen it yet...there is an 8 part series on Amazon Prime called " Terminal List" and it is very, very well done. I did not know Chris Pratt could even play a serious role...but it is about a Seal Team that gets ambushed on a mission in the 1st episode and all the crooked garbage that led up to it.

Amazing realism and action, No nudity or even much bad language, and an exceptionally well written storyline and script adapted from a book series. 1 of the best shows i have seen on TV in a long time. Each hour long episode is like an entire movie worth of action. I was very impressed.
