I don’t know that Sam Pittman would’ve taken the Tennessee job if offered at the same time Arkansas hired him. Traditionally Tennessee is a much better job but when you have guys like Sonny Dykes telling you thanks but no thanks it’s telling. Our past two ADs were sacked by boosters, Fulmer, Anderson got Currie canned who was doing what Haslam told him to do; Haslam got Fulmer and Pruitt canned, a leak in the athletic dept to compliance doesn’t sack any AD or coach in the SEC unless a power player wants that to happen. We were almost as dysfunctional as Auburn is currently.
Again it’s not the roster you’re given or the schedule only. You can have the best roster and schedule in the world and be screwed by incompetence above you as a coach. White has definitely removed a lot of obstacles for Heupel to be successful but coming in this was a very difficult job. Most said Tennessee was only surpassed by Nebraska as far as difficulty and expectations of fans and boosters. Pittman had done a fantastic job no doubt but to say that Heupel had a even decent situation is laughable. Every decent coach in the country was saying no publicly and behind closed doors bc they knew how difficult the Tennessee job would be.
