College Baseball - Transfer Portal Tracker

Finally got a scouting report on what Halvorsen throws. Excited to have him next season. It’s crazy I look forward to Tennessee baseball almost like I do do Tennessee football

I definitely like college baseball more than college basketball and it’s right up there with college football for me. I’m glad our ascent has coincided with increased exposure of the game.

Of course, I’m a Tennessee Vols Tidleliwinks fan if we competed in it.

It went from 40 to 5 for Covid in 2020, then to 20 in 2021. It was announced this last off-season that it will stay at 20 going forward, which I think is a good thing.
Each MLB franchise also has two less teams to field in the minors which is the major reason the draft has been cut to 20 rounds. Need less bodies.

They ought ot have more WS wins than anyone else. They've always had more money than anyone else.
How's that worked out for LA? They've spent more than any other team in the league the past ten years. Atlanta has won as many championships this century as LA has... and spent way less money. Baseball is a fickle mistress.

Cut due to Covid? Or just to save cost?
Much longer overall story- MLB had been talking about doing it before Covid. A few members of Congress that were going to lose minor league baseball teams in the areas they represent started writing cautionary letters about baseball losing its anti trust exemption, then the covid got in the way and provided cover. 42 minor league teams gone, lots of people lost their jobs, less players getting drafted.

There isn't a perfect correlation between money and postseason wins and appearances, but there is a correlation. Pointing out that it isn't perfect as a way to deny the overall correlation isn't a good look.

As a sophomore, we can walk without penalty or further commitment.

My son was NROTC at Virginia Tech. He graduated in December and commissioned in January. While the rules for the academies may be different, my son could resign his NROTC scholarship after his freshman year, before sophomore classes started, with no service requirement or expectation to repay his tuition. Once he started classes as a sophomore, he was committed to graduate and commission or pay the Navy back in service time (enlisted) or full reimbursement at the Navy's discretion.

Great explanation!

As Chuckie stated, great explanation. And as you stated 42 teams gone and entire leagues up in smoke, including leagues with so much tradition and history such as The Appalachian League where I live. I'm still hurting over this one. So sad.

And no, the summer league that took the Appy League's place ain't even close to the original.

I’m surprised not a single Tennessee player is in the portal. Hope it stays that way.

I’m sure some TN players will transfer, most likely not because they want to but because they feel they need to look elsewhere for PT. I think the current number says a lot, though.

Off the top of my head, Denton at Alabama and Digiacomo at LSU would be losses for their programs, especially Denton. I kinda sorta have the same feeling about Young at vandy. Of course others may have better analysis. EDIT: just looked up Digiacomo- I have faulty memory, doesn’t look like he has great stats.

Vandy will be super young next year.
There's a story today in the print version of the News Sentinel (I can't find it online). It's about Vandy baseball and how they have trouble getting transfers- guys have to meet their admission criteria and not all hours transfer from their old schools. The writer wasn't a KNS one, so perhaps the article also appeared in The Tennessean.
