War in Ukraine

I say it because it is true. They are achieving their objectives. Maybe not as fast as you expect them or how you expect them, but I don't think they care what you think. Ukraine has had years to fortify the Donbas. This isn't land that is easily taken but Russia's plan to slowly grind forward takes care of all 3 objectives (de-militarization, de-nazification and liberation of Donbas).

Let's see if you are, in fact, rational.

Here is a comparison of the western-supplied artillery now coming into Ukrainian possession near the front lines vs. Russian artillery:

Still with me @volgr?

Now here's an important lesson in life: sometimes, SIZE matters. Yeah, I know, your husband says it doesn't, but in this case, the new Ukrainian artillery has a significantly longer range than the Russian artillery. Why does that matter? Well, in the Donbas region, there are largely static lines - trench warfare - that have built up since 2014. They haven't changed much because both the Russians and the Ukrainians have been largely fighting with similar gear. Artillery, tanks and drones are the main drivers.

But now with 100+ shiny new western artillery pieces (plus... shhhh... HIMARS systems... don't tell Vlad we did this), Ukraine has the distinct advantage. Simply put, Ukraine can lob the 90,000+ shells (some of which are accurate to within 6 feet) that we and others have provided them right onto the trench lines of the Russians. Should the Russians pull their artillery closer to the lines, they too, will be pulverized... and, most importantly, the new Ukrainian artillery can simply move forwards / backwards - as needed - to stay *completely* out of the range of the Russian artillery.

So here's the question for ya: How exactly is Russia going to stop the new Ukrainian artillery? Eh? Are they gonna launch major airstrikes / chopper attacks? How's that gonna work out with all the Stingers and S300 systems Ukraine now has?

What is Russia going to do to prevent their troops and materiel from being pounded non-stop by the new Ukrainian artillery?

And, if they ain't gonna prevent it, how long is this war gonna go on until Putin surrenders? I mean... damn dude, it's just gonna be blown up bits of dumb ass Russian soldiers day in and day out.

Dazzle us with your tactical military incite, comrade.

So you have moved on from the Switchblade drone, which wasn't near the game changer you hoped, and have grasped on to this new latest weapon that is supposed to change the game for Ukraine? After that, don't fault me for being somewhat skeptical of your opinion on this matter. I would question how many of these make it to useful battlefield positions, how many have competent operators and how long will they last in the battlefield (those that make it) before Russia destroys them? Maybe they will finally be the game changer you have been hoping for, but I severely doubt it.

Ye ol' "answer non-answer". Slap me silly and call me Shirley.

Carry on with your shenanigans.

Do you really think someone is skimming defense appropriations and funneling cash to Biden? I mean really? That is the kind of thing that is told to these low intellect Alabama rednecks around here so they will go out and repeat it to their buddies.

I'll listen to your answer but that's the last I'm going to say about partisan politics in this thread. The aspects of the war in Ukraine is the first thing the right and left has come close to agreeing on outside of 9/11 in decades.
Disregarding even the probable (but unproven) shady stuff (Google „Hunter Biden big guy“) it is no secret to anyone that these contractors donate HUGE sums to candidates‘ election campaigns nd after retirement, the former official is almost guaranteed lucrative speaking engagements (look up what Bill and Hillary make for flapping their gums for a few minutes or equally lucrative board seats.
But please, continue to pretend to be „shocked“ that gambling goes on at Rick‘s Café if it helps you feel better 😉

People say that every time we are in a war...yet here we are..still. Money to Ukraine is a drop in the bucket.
Eisenhower's Chilling Analysis of Defense Spending (businessinsider.com)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people.

6 minutes in and I can't go any further listening to this gibbering idiot who seems really confused that "largest" doesn't mean "best". And with the angle he is working he seems to be trying to draw parallels between Russia's 70+ massive losses and the US's performance in actual drawn out wars. Sorry, not buying what this comrade is selling comrade. Fail.
Oh tell me more about these drawn out American wars. How successful have we been in them?

Im not sure why Donjo or Ras thinks anybody here cares about George W Bush.
Because you consider Putin to be a war criminal and collapsing his own economy, yet no one says a peep about a man that has far more blood on his hands and has burned threw more of our treasure with his legacy of war time debts.

Good to see some still deal in reality... from retired Lt. Col. Daniel Davis...

Over the past few days, a flurry of senior leaders in both Ukraine and Washington have issued defiant claims of not merely resisting Russian aggression, but pushing towards outright victory. While such aspirations are entirely understandable, it is unwise to set policy seeking a preferred outcome if there does not exist a rational path by which Ukraine could accomplish that objective. At present, most indicators, fundamentals of war, and current battlefield trendlines support the prospect of a Ukrainian defeat.
Davis correctly describes the current military situation on the ground and concludes:
By continuing to seek a military victory in Ukraine, Ukraine’s troops will continue fighting, no negotiated settlement will be realistically sought, and most likely Russian troops continue making progress. As a result, more Ukrainian civilians and troops will continue to be killed and wounded, more cities destroyed, and the economic and food crises – for both Ukraine and the world – will worsen. The most likely outcome will not change (a negotiated settlement, not a Ukrainian military victory), but the cost to Kyiv will be much, much worse.

If the specifics are to be believed, which a lot of it I highly doubt, It would have been an obvious loss for Russia. It is war however, you aren't going to fight it perfectly, but at the end of the day Russia made it across and continues to advance. Get excited over a small win, I guess (if it is true), but as usual you don't see the bigger picture.
These guys have been so conditioned to see the US going against these lower tier militaries in the Middle East and assume that all modern conflicts is like that.

We don't know if this one is true yet. Waiting on more verification, but rumors are being spread.

I have only seen more badly faked russian issues at the conscript stations. Pictures with either armed russian soldiers in the back ground, or russian city names in the back ground. Not quite the Sims level badly faked, but pretty easy to spot if you know what to look for.

I do think Ukraine is putting a pretty face on things, but as always the truth is somewhere in the middle. Things arent going as well for Ukraine as Ukraine says, and it's not as bad for Ukraine as Russia says.

Just like the downfall of Russia has been weeks away this entire time, you guys have been saying the same thing about Ukraine collapsing in weeks as well.

I can't recall ever hearing about it, but you wonder how the people in the Asian part of Russia feel about being controlled from Moscow which is really in the far eastern part of European Russia. Some residents of Asian Russia perhaps would like to return home to European Asia, but you'd think they aren't happy about the people who arranged their trip to the "garden spots" in far eastern Russia in the first place.

Not sure where this myth is coming from that we are forcing Ukraine to fight.

Clearly that plan didn’t work for **** in Vietnam, Iraq, or Afghanistan, but apparently we are just effortlessly manipulating Ukraine into doing our bidding.

For a change, it is nice to be backing a country that actually has the will and competence to fight back against an aggressor be it internal or external. Something we haven't seen in a very long time.
