War in Ukraine

Great post. Helped my 14yo daughter write an essay due tomorrow ...written from 1st person perspective of a citizen in Germany post WW1. Describes the poverty, hunger, depression etc they are living in when a new leader makes himself known! He is super proud still of this country, and of being from "here". He is super charismatic and tells the populace that they are not lowly, poor, defeated peoples, but rather they are the best of the best! That under his leadership EVERY person in his country will flourish, they will have nice homes, cars, and plenty to eat of every kind of food! Tells them that he will build a mighty military that will never again be defeated in battle! Tells them they should be VERY proud of their heritage...that people from other countries are weak, evil, and only mean them harm etc etc....only at the end of the very last paragraph does she reveal that it was set in post WW1 Germany, and the "cult of personality " leader was none other than Adolf Hitler. Up until then, it could have taken place anywhere on earth dealing with the aftermath of losing a war.

The truth in the matter is that if we folks were living in Germany at that time, while neighbors ate your cat or dog when you let them outside unattended....if WE were there, we would have embraced Hitler just as surely as they did. It wasnt until he had already seized power that the real hatred and atrocities began....and by then it was too late. We would have done the exact same thing that most folks did at the time.

It is important to evaluate and see things from the past through the lense of people present at the time. This does not excuse evil, or bad decisions, does not change what is right and wrong....it DOES make many of the crazy things which happened in times past seem far more understandable. Helps us to make sense of what people did, and more importantly WHY they did them.

Go VOLS
Hitler came in at the perfect time when Germany was still reeling.

Taking an oath is part of everyday society. Not saying the Pledge of Allegiance doesn't land you in a gulag or get you a nice case of polonium poisoning.

Parading your barely adequate at best military hardware to celebrate you getting back at your best buddy who betrayed you to the tune of over 20,000,000 deaths and creating a mythos around your involvement is very cult like.
Not to mention the cult is misrepresenting the payback. They should be parading US equipment in their parade if it were historically accurate since even their potato industry had been blown to hell by the time the Germans were pushed back.

This country survived over a century without it.

Lucky day for a handful of Russian troops. I am sure there aren’t enough weapons and troops available anymore in the vicinity of Moscow with which to stage said parade. So a few lucky SOBs will get pulled from the line in the Donbas, given Clean new uniforms, a couple of decent meals, and a few days in Moscow to put on a show. Then, break times over and it’s back to Hell

So the flyover... OK.
I said that was the obvious BS I’m sure the other items most likely are BS based on their propaganda propensity.

But it’s clearly not “nitpicking” Moe it’s obvious they are correctly calling out their lying asses. In this case the Russian bastards are blatantly saying the sky is not blue 😂

Sure... the biggest takeaways are the flyover and no declarations of war. In other words, a typical Monday.

Actually the biggest takeaway is the lying bastards won’t say why they actually cancelled their flyover on their biggest nationalist celebration of the year. And we all know your head would spin continually and you would spit pea soup before you ever admitted it 😂

Russian envoy to Poland hit with red paint at war cemetery
Russia’s ambassador to Poland was splattered with red paint thrown at him by protesters opposed to the war in Ukraine, preventing him from paying respects on Monday at a Warsaw cemetery to Red Army soldiers who died during World War II.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova denounced the attack, saying on her messaging app channel that “we won’t be scared” while the “people of Europe should be scared to see their reflection in a mirror.”
