Gonzaga did me in.
I'm gonna blame @Enki_Amenra for my current fate...one of those situations like when a team hasn't had a turnover all game until the analyst calling the game mentions it and then they immediately turn the ball over. I was leading the damn thing going into last night and now I'm 4th. Terrible night for me. Duke winning hurt my heart and my bracket-contest-hopes pride.

...and mentoring coaches and recruiting and program management. He has superior talent because he sold them on his vision.

Playcalling doesn't make a great coach any more than steering a boat makes someone a great captain.

Saban is the best college football coach in history. I'm not sure how this can be disputed at this point.

It depends on how you define best. Given equal talent (which he rarely faces), his results are pretty pedestrian (as evidenced in both college and NFL), but there's a reason he generally doesn't have equal talent. Much of that can be attributed to the Bama machine, but also his ability to build a program that attracts the best talent. Do you think he would have the same dynasty at Vanderbilt? I don't. So at least some of his success is attributed to where he is, both at LSU and Bama, but to your point, a great boat captain doesn't have to be a miracle worker if he chooses to avoid icebergs and waterfalls.

So again, I think he is the GOAT at building programs, but I think he is just solid as a coach. In the end, the CEO function is clearly as or more important than actual coaching, and that bears out in his results.

He is a good coach. He has a whole gigantic statewide system that is completely dedicated to doing what he wants, even local and national media, plus getting favored treatment and officiating by the SEC.

I agree he has done a great job of managing all that, and mostly by not getting satisfied and lazy, and maintaining personal discipline. He is a unique individual in that way.

He is the best overall college coach for those reasons, but he has never been and never will be the best football mind.

If Saban had to deal with the divided support from top to bottom that nearly every other coach in college sports has to put up with...he would just be another good coach.

And yet you still have to factor in that he had people willing to pay top dollar to buy the best players who were then willing to sit on the bench for 2-3 years instead of starting as a freshman somewhere else.

Fans will sleep on this kid but I would not. Kid has something special about him. It is in his blood to be special based on his parents and brother successes. It would not shock me one bit if he beats out Nico
It wouldn't surprise me either. I hope it turns out that both are great and coach works it out. Guys are always one play away from being the man.

Beaches in Florida are banning them because of so many injuries and deaths occurring on them.
i remember reading about either these things or segues. that there is a known issue where the brake engages and sticks causing rider to slam forward. i wouldnt wish brain trauma or neck injury in anyone.

The Bama "machine" was impressive.
