No matter how much we try to manufacture a villain in this situation, there just isn’t one. Both sides had been historically loyal to each other…and both sides benefited. We don’t win the World Series without him and there was a strong cast put around him that earned him a ring. AA offered him a top of the market deal and he held out for what his camp felt was acceptable. Braves covered themselves and he got the security. In the end, two homegrown mainstays went home…no losers.Yeah, there will always be people that blame the player but it’s just as bad with teams. Look at the way the Seahawks just got rid of Bobby Wagner. He was there throughout the whole run of playoffs and Super Bowls, was First or Second team All-Pro and Pro Bowl year after year, even last year, and he had to find out on Twitter that the Seahawks released him… and yet people want to just blame loyalty on players.
The truth in all of it is nobody should be expecting players and teams to be loyal anymore.
12.3% tax rate in California for anything north of 625k.
So knock off about 3.3 million yearly. So over 6 years of that 22million he'd be losing between 18 million and 20 million for state taxes. Still netting an additional 2+ million.
I'm sure had he gotten the extra year offered to stay in Atlanta he would have. Guessing that extra year was a big concern. I also think player pensions pay out based on years in league etc. so it probably isn't as cut and dry as just looking at the two contracts side by side.

It’s a business no doubt. But the best businesses inspire a level of dedication and loyalty. When you’re simply punchin a clock and counting the minutes, it shows. When you’re hanging out together afterwards on purpose, it shows.I agree for sure in this situation. I was just speaking in generalities about loyalties within sports.
Differential analysis.
Aka need to only include differential amounts in order to analyze. Iirc GA's top rate is near 6%. So the difference is about half.
