War in Ukraine

We are the richest because of the Petro dollar.
We were the richest well before that.

And losing the hegemony of the petro dollar will not make the entire world jettison their dollars for Yuan. The dollar losing reserve status would be a long, complicated, difficult process that won’t occur because of a few dictators scheming.

Yes, but we used to make things. Now, not so much.

Think about this: if Putin is a "war criminal," what does he believe will happen to him if he loses the war? This is only painting him into a corner and increasing the odds of him doing something catastrophic if he senses that his invasion is failing.

It’s been really puzzling to read different comments about him being a war criminal, a dictator , a mad man , a killer , a disrespectful disruptive , egotistical, despot and then say we need to get directly involved ( no fly zone ) because he won’t do this or that . There’s only one person that knows what he’s willing to do or how far he’s willing to go … and he not sharing that with us right now .

For like $50 you can go buy one of those lightweight RC 2-channel planes..I got into somewhat several years ago, and those things will go up so high you can barely see them. Quite a rush trying to bring her down. It is fun...I may have to get back into it. I upgraded and probably spent $600-700 on the things
We had an RC plane with a tiny gas engine when I was a kid. Never could get it to work right.

America BUYS $1Trillion more than it SELLS from other countries EVERY YEAR. That means if the dollar is no longer the reserve currency, that we need to SELL $1T more dollars every year than anyone wants to buy. Supply/Demand will tell you that is a recipe for a Dollar becoming the same value the Ruble has now.

The requirement to buy dollars to buy oil is the key driver that balances the above equation. If that crumbles, it is only a matter of time before the deficit, not to mention the accumulated debt will obliterate our economy.

LOL

I’ve seen a lot of alarmist takes about this in the last couple days. Put me in the camp that thinks the richest country of all time can take the economic hit without being reduced to the barter system.

Our dollar’s value in the world is the fact it is the worlds reserve currency, take that away and what do we have?

Biden needs to keep his mouth shut.

There are many people who I believe would like to see the US get bogged down in this mess, which would likely officially kick off WWIII.

We need to stay further than arm’s reach from this and be working behind the scenes wherever possible to broker a peace agreement.

You’d have to think that Putin’s position is beginning to soften as he realizes he bit off much more than he could chew in the Ukraine.

What options does he have at this point? He may be able to eventually take Kiev, but it’s going to come at a really high cost. I don’t see a path to him keeping it though. He has to know this by now.

Ras did you read any comments from Putin’s press conference today and specifically his comment about “cleansing the nation” of those who don’t support Kremlin policies and his admission that the military was indiscriminately shelling civilian targets?
No, send me a link. I would be interested to know if he actually said "indiscriminately shelling civilian targets" or if that is you or the media taking a few liberties with what he actually said.

He admitted it happened but put the blame on the military commanders which is probably true but I was more intrigued by his “cleansing” comments.

So how far do we let him go with the "I'm crazy and might nuke the world" threat?
If he says, "giving arms to Ukraine is an act of war and I might go nuclear" do we take the threat seriously?
