Joe Lunardi's 2022 NCAA tournament bracket: Hits, misses from myself and the selection committee

MISS: Everyone is all over the committee for not making SEC champion Tennessee a 1- or 2-seed. The top line was never going to happen for the Vols, but most of the comparisons to the other 2-seeds are valid. It's also an area where I would have gone with the Vols if voting my own ballot. Alas, this is my 22nd consecutive year without a vote, and I believed all along the Vols would be a 3-seed. And I have no quibble with Tennessee slotting just behind 2-seed Villanova, which beat the Vols handily in November.
What a load of 🦬💩...the issue is not Nova getting a two over us, it is UK, AU and Duke...especially freakin Duke.

Our Free Throw shooting is my worry. Cause in the tournament the difference between losing on a dagger 3 or going to OT could come down to missing 1 of 2 at the line when the team is trying to extend the game. Last four games we shot under 70% from the charity stripe too, but it didn't matter thankfully. Part of that was ZZ shooting 50% against Arkansas and KC went 0-3 from the line against them. I'm hoping the rest helps with that though.

We got 6 days off after Arkansas and played as fresh as I've seen us play all season on both sides of the court. I'm sure 4 days off after will help as well.
True. Please just keep the ball in the hands of Vescovi and any other great FT shooters late game. I'd also take Chandler driving...he's really clutch there. Also really hope ZZ gets right before the big dance. He's been too loose with the ball. Hopefully he can straighten out from what has to be an emotional few weeks.

First look at betting the 2022 NCAA men's basketball tournament

In terms of sleepers, Houston (+800 to win South Region) stands out. The problem is that the Cougars potentially have to go through Illinois, Arizona and Tennessee. Perhaps it makes more sense to roll over some money lines, but I do like Kelvin Sampson and the Cougars. KenPom ranks them in the top 11 in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency.

South 3-seed Tennessee (20-1 title odds) will be a chic pick -- and rightfully so. To be fair, 20-1 is tempting and a number worth betting. The Vols just won the SEC tournament after a season that featured wins over Arizona, Auburn and Kentucky. But they also had some questionable losses and their offense can be average. However, some metrics loved UT once conference play started. I realize questioning Rick Barnes is an annual tradition, but remember that critics used to write off 2019 champion Virginia in the same way.
Questionable losses? That is big f'n lie..we had only Q1 losses and they were all on the road, one of those against Bama in their building without two of our best players, and all but 2 of those were close losses..what in the hell are they talking about?

I just don't get that, in a sport that thrives on home court advantage more so than any other sport how are any of our losses questionable when every single team we lost to is in the NCAA tournament?

Loss @ Arkansas (4 seed)
Loss @ Texas (6 seed)
Loss @ Kentucky (2 seed)
Loss @ LSU (6 seed)
Loss @ Alabama (6 seed)
Loss to Texas (6 seed)
Loss to Texas Tech (3 seed)
Loss to Villanova (2 seed)

So what's questionable about a resume with a team that had 7 losses, none at home and none to a team that didn't make the tournament and were all 6 seeds or higher? Not to mention of those 7 losses we also won 4 against those teams in rematches.
Exactly..they are literally just making up 💩 knowing that most people are too lazy and stupid to see if it's true.

He’s a great player but catastrophic, no

Catchers of his talent are harder to come by than other positions.
His framing is terrific and he's solid offensively. I think he'll be much harder to replace than an outfielder or shortstop down the line.
Would have been very inexpensive for an number of years too so it would be easier to spend and keep other positions bolstered.

That being said, prospects don't always pan out.

You're gonna laugh at someone who disagrees with you? Says a lot about you, moreso than I. Honestly, I hope you are right. And, if you feel compelled to act that way, more power to you.

Hope the kid is a Vol. Honesty in grand scheme where a HS goes has no bearing on me invidually. Further, got a lot more going on than to try to have an inside track on the mind of a teenager.
Typical rainbow warrior commie..pick a fight over something someone says, and then go all pretentious condescending virtue signaling "look at me I'm smarter and better than you" jerk..

I'm not worried about ZZ, it's all "recent bias" on him being too loose with the ball.

6 TOs against A&M. But he only had 1 against Mississippi State to go along with 8 assists and 11 points. And against Kentucky he only had 2 TOs and 11 points, including a very timely 3 pointer.

The Arkansas game to close out the season he had 4 as well, but 6 assist and 13 points. The biggest difference was just the lack of fouls called against A&M and how they were guarding him. I think against Longwood and even Michigan/Colorado State he'll play more controlled and his speed will be less haltered by bad officiating.

All the smoke points to it. I've already listed the reason why that athletic article absolutely is referring to Nico. AP has been dropping hints. There's a guy on VQ who is clearly connected to Spyre. He is at 100% when he speaks about Spyre/NIL. He's dropping major hints that it's coming this week. It's happening.

Honestly our seeding came down to just 2 games...

Losing by 28 at Kentucky
Losing by 18 to Villanova

That's it, if the committee is honest with us they'd say that. I think considering we then beat Kentucky twice since then kind of erases/evens that one out. And Villanova was the 3rd game of the season...seems like the other 31 games after it would have more weight...but what do I know.

I will say if we had lost those two games by single digits we'd be a 2 seed imo.
I think you're right, but if we had beaten Bama and Texas, we would have probably been a #1 no matter what.

Anybody that knows basketball and watched the UK game should have known it was just one of those freak games where literally everything goes your way.

nah, i think our perception never really changed because of the road losses at Bama and LSU. i think those are the two games that really hurt. the KY loss, yeah it was bad. but we beat them 2x since then. and Auburn. plus i think everyone will point to that day in Rupp as the last day the old TN team took the court.

so for me, it's those two road games against LSU and Bama.....who are both top 6 seeds in the tourney. lol.
I forgot LSU, I said Texas...but yeah it was a combination of those three. If we had pulled out Bama, LSU and/or Texas it would have made a huge difference.
