Trump's first impeachment involved him withholding Congressionally authorized military aid to the Ukraine to assist in their fight against those Kremlin-backed rebels.

Putin isn't "afraid" of anyone. But he seemed to like Trump. Maybe that's why he didn't mess with the Ukraine while Trump was POTUS?

Honestly, I’d be shocked if the POTUS played any meaningful part in his calculations. Neither was going to send troops to Ukraine, which would have been the only deterrence that mattered. It’s far more likely to be a result of the changing situation in Ukraine itself.

I don’t think this is going to be an easy campaign for Russia. Big difference between sacking a city than keeping it. Eastern European men are typically brawlers. I don’t think the Ukrainians will fold without a long fight.

Easy, no but lets see how they feel after a few days of it. I think the expectation of a long insurgency is expected but Russia has had plenty of them. The tough thing is finding the Uk President and others in a big city. Urban warfare is no fun. Sniperville. But Russians are not burdened by paroxysms of excess mercy and they are likely to get as brutal is necessary. That is a two edged sword of course so I am sure at the same time, they hope to avoid that and find him quickly so as to end the formal fighting.

Only no one knows with any certainty if this would be happening right now if Trump was in the WH, because he's not in the WH. Biden is in the WH so it fairly falls on his shoulders as the current POTUS. Some of you make Trump out to be some kind of political god. He wasn't. It could have happened under his watch too; had he been re-elected. Putin is not afraid of the U.S. no matter who sits in the Oval Office.

While I agree, I do believe he was more concerned with Trump than he is Biden. He couldn't easily predict what Trump would do in reaction to what ever he would do. After all Trump ordered a bomb dropped on Iran's top General. I don't see any other President doing that in the last 40 years.
