It definitely could be. It’s hard to wade through all of the leaks that came out after Flores was fired and figure out what could be true and what’s not, but a lot of the leaks were bad looks.
He had 3 OCs in 3 years, 3 OL coaches in 3 years and countless other staff turnover issues. There was one story from multiple Miami beat writers that there were multiple coaches that Flores didn’t talk to the last month or two of the season. Which is a bit crazy that they did go on that long streak during the year if true. He had plans to replace over half of his staff, again, this off-season. He also didn’t get along with the GM and was in a power struggle with him.. wanted more control and was asking for more control going into the next season and free agency.
Player relationships I think were better although there were rumblings some of the younger guys didn’t like him. He treated the Veterans better than the younger guys. Don’t think that’s a huge issue though. He didn’t get along with Tua, and didn’t want to draft him but the organization did. I don’t know how much I blame that one on Flores. Ultimately he was right as he wanted Herbert.
All in all, between the power struggles, staff issues and his relationship with the “franchise” QB (he isn’t, but that’s another issue altogether).. it’s not as big a shock once all the details came out. The question is were all of those details true? Who knows, but a lot of them make sense and we’re corroborated by players and coaches afterwards.
(I still think he deserved another year)
