The one in Pennsylvania.... Our group has been debating whether to go to Pitt or LSU next year, and while LSU would no doubt be a LOT of fun, we have no idea when we would get to play Pitt up there again. So... Any of ya'll have any recommendations on what to do up there? What to see and where to go? The game is early enough in the season that I am sure the weather will be pretty nice, so outdoor stuff should be good to go.

Most of all we are hoping for some sweet sweet revenge.

Of those two options I would absolutely be going to Death Valley. That atmosphere has to be so cool.

I will say though, I would only want to go there if it were a night game. An 11AM kickoff there would be lame.

if you have a car you can go see the Frank Lloyd Wright house "FallingWater"
Fallingwater - Frank Lloyd Wright - Tour the house today - Pennsylvania

I think my wife and I are going to the Pitt game as well. We may try to make the LSU game as well (bucket list item).

I have driven past this house many times. It's at least an hour or so one way outside Pittsburgh but on your way to Braddocks grave and some revolutionary war battlefields ect. Also bueatiful mountains out this way with Ohiopyle state park and whitewater rafting. Of course the mountains are 2nd to the smokies and its getting way out of the city.

In Pittsburgh has point park, Carnegie Hall and museums. Probably could get a cool historical tour of the city. Lots of good food, pierogies, beer, wings and parminti bros sandwiches are popular. Go just a little south to W.V. and you can hit a casino and maybe catch a MMA fight. Used be one called the Mountaineer.

I went to the Dooley 13 players on the field game. Great day tailgating with some LSU customers and the atmosphere was outstanding. Lots of LSU fans left thinking they had lost. Had some 4 year old kids following us around yelling “Tiger Bait, Tiger Bait”.

Plenty to do in Pittsburgh. If you like beer and food, you have many options. Get ready to drive up some steep hills. Downtown is in the river valley and all suburbs are in the hills. Really cool town.

Can hit a casino in Maryland. Then go to harpers ferry west Virginia. In my opinion the ride up i-81 into west Virginia is beautiful. Where the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers join is just awesome scenery. Pittsburgh isn't too far from there. If have time also definitely go to Gettysburg too.

crash a wedding in Pittsburg. I officiated one two years ago and it was a blast. They have this weird tradition of having an entire room full of cookies. You won't regret crashing a reception. I will be staying in Sewickly, PA. It's a little quaint town right outside of Pitt...lovely place to stay.

Like others have said, if you're into architecture Falling Water and there is also a state park, Polymath, that has bought several FLW houses from around the US and had them moved there, You can even stay overnight in them.

The Laurel Highlands also have Ohiopyle state park with rafting and you can even ride a bike there from downtown Pittsburgh on a rails to trails path called the Great Allegheny Passage.

For history, there's Fort Pitt in downtown and Fort Necessity in the region and Heinz History center.

More highbrow stuff includes the Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Museum, Phipps Conservatory, Heinz Hall, and the National Aviary.

Kennywood is a very unique amusement park, over 120 years old and it has a number of rides that are the last of their kind in the world. In addition to a still running 100+ year old roller coaster, there are lots of modern rides including an entire area themed for the Steelers with a pretty good coaster.

There are the two inclines up Mount Washington. Also take a drive up Mount Washington to Grandview Ave for great views of the city especially at night.

The Strip District is the area in the city where restaurants used to got to get meat, fish, vegatables, etc. Still that and also has lots of great food places (get a fish sandwich from Wholeys) and that is where the original Primantis Brothers is (sandwiches with fries on them, overated in my opinion). Lots of great little italian bakeries throughout the city and Polish Hill for perogie.

The Pirates will suck but if there is a MLB season, PNC Park is beautiful and good tickets will be cheap.

For gambling there's Rivers Casino next to Heinz Field, in the area is Nemacolin Resort with a golf course and The Meadows Racetrack for horse racing.

I grew up in southwestern PA.

The view of downtown driving out of the Fort Pitt Tunnel is amazing. Not really a “thing to do” in an activity sense; but still, something you’ve gotta do if you’re up there. The Pirates host the Cardinals that weekend and PNC Park is really nice. The Pirates will probably be a good 20+ games out in the NL Central by September if recent history is any indicator, so tickets will probably be a pretty straightforward proposition if you want to make a weekend of it and watch baseball on Friday evening when you get into town, or on Sunday. There are restaurants up that incline with great city views, too… Duquesne Incline if you want to look it up.

If it was my money, I’d go see Pitt for exactly the reason you stated, we may never play them again.

I spent 3 unfortunate weeks at Ft. Indian town Gap, no beer is sold at grocery stores (at least that’s what the guy at Walmart told us,) so be prepared for that. If you can swing time to take a tour at Yuengling, it’s very impressive and I would go again in a heart beat…even though the town it’s in is basically methvegas.

Gettysburg is cool too, we only did a guided tour of the battlefield, but didn’t explore the surrounding area. I think it’s something every American should see.

Go to the Pitt game, we lived near there for a few years and there are tons of things to do and see. We moved back to E Tenn when I retired because I hated the winter snow and cold.

A friend of mine played ball in high school with a former pirates catcher…he said the stadium was phenomenal.
