Pittsburgh

Go to Pittsburgh. LSU fans are hoodlums and like you said, who knows when we'll play Pitt again.
Agree. We took a bus loader with VOL fans to LSU and their fans almost turned it over with us in it. Never been back and don’t want to go back. Pitt on the other hand is a nice city. I was there on business when Majors was coaching there and watched a night practice. r hat time they had a couple of really good restaurants up on the bluffs.

Of those two options I would absolutely be going to Death Valley. That atmosphere has to be so cool.

I will say though, I would only want to go there if it were a night game. An 11AM kickoff there would be lame.

I’ve been to Tiger Stadium for day games vs Ga, Ala & ND and it still doesn’t compare to Sat night vs Ole Miss or Miss St. That stadium clearly has two personalities.
The view of downtown driving out of the Fort Pitt Tunnel is amazing. Not really a “thing to do” in an activity sense; but still, something you’ve gotta do if you’re up there. The Pirates host the Cardinals that weekend and PNC Park is really nice. The Pirates will probably be a good 20+ games out in the NL Central by September if recent history is any indicator, so tickets will probably be a pretty straightforward proposition if you want to make a weekend of it and watch baseball on Friday evening when you get into town, or on Sunday. There are restaurants up that incline with great city views, too… Duquesne Incline if you want to look it up.

I highly recommend driving thru the Fort Pitt tunnel into downtown. Probably the best thing about Pittsburgh. If memory is correct, that is the way from the airport if you elect to fly.

The sandwich place, Primani Bros, is a must. Go hungry. Very hungry.

Tennessee owes those guys. ACC refs screwed Tennessee all game LY. A total butt kickin is required for the Panthers.

They are acting like it these days

The one in Pennsylvania.... Our group has been debating whether to go to Pitt or LSU next year, and while LSU would no doubt be a LOT of fun, we have no idea when we would get to play Pitt up there again. So... Any of ya'll have any recommendations on what to do up there? What to see and where to go? The game is early enough in the season that I am sure the weather will be pretty nice, so outdoor stuff should be good to go.

Most of all we are hoping for some sweet sweet revenge.
Pitt and it’s not even close!

crash a wedding in Pittsburg. I officiated one two years ago and it was a blast. They have this weird tradition of having an entire room full of cookies. You won't regret crashing a reception. I will be staying in Sewickly, PA. It's a little quaint town right outside of Pitt...lovely place to stay.
That’s an Italian thing

Like others have said, if you're into architecture Falling Water and there is also a state park, Polymath, that has bought several FLW houses from around the US and had them moved there, You can even stay overnight in them.

The Laurel Highlands also have Ohiopyle state park with rafting and you can even ride a bike there from downtown Pittsburgh on a rails to trails path called the Great Allegheny Passage.

For history, there's Fort Pitt in downtown and Fort Necessity in the region and Heinz History center.

More highbrow stuff includes the Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Museum, Phipps Conservatory, Heinz Hall, and the National Aviary.

Kennywood is a very unique amusement park, over 120 years old and it has a number of rides that are the last of their kind in the world. In addition to a still running 100+ year old roller coaster, there are lots of modern rides including an entire area themed for the Steelers with a pretty good coaster.

There are the two inclines up Mount Washington. Also take a drive up Mount Washington to Grandview Ave for great views of the city especially at night.

The Strip District is the area in the city where restaurants used to got to get meat, fish, vegatables, etc. Still that and also has lots of great food places (get a fish sandwich from Wholeys) and that is where the original Primantis Brothers is (sandwiches with fries on them, overated in my opinion). Lots of great little italian bakeries throughout the city and Polish Hill for perogie.

The Pirates will suck but if there is a MLB season, PNC Park is beautiful and good tickets will be cheap.

For gambling there's Rivers Casino next to Heinz Field, in the area is Nemacolin Resort with a golf course and The Meadows Racetrack for horse racing.

I grew up in southwestern PA.
Nemacolin resort is kind of strange but very nice. Great spa.

IIRC the Cardinals/Pirates are playing a series there the weekend of the game. Our group has considered going (all are huge Vols/Cardinals fans) and making a series event out of it.
I really like PNC park. I’ve picked up tickets for dirt cheap right behind home plate

I have an idea. When our high-powered Vols go to Pittsburgh to play the game, I'll drive up the highway to Pittsburg to watch the game at a bar..........and hope I don't get shot!

If you are making the trip to Pittsburgh here are some of my suggestions. If you’re a craft beer drinker there are some great choices and I am happy to help with your itinerary.

All near Heinz Field:
UPMC Science Center
Andy Warhol museum
Bike and beers on 3 Rivers Heritage Trail - 5 mile ride to Hofbrauhaus, 4 mile ride from Heinz to Millvale neighborhood (Grist House or Strange Roots), 1.25 mile to Roundabout popup
Kayak Pittsburgh - river kayak rental under Clemente Bridge
PNC Park (Pirates are home that w/e. Yes they are a joke, but ball park is one of the best in MLB.)
Rivers Casino (Saw folks mentioning casinos in WV, but this is next to Heinz.)

Downtown / Strip District / Mt. Washington:
Downtown is walkable to Heinz, plenty of restaurants and spots for a drink. Butcher and Rye would be my choice for dinner, but get a reservation.
Mt. Washington take the incline from Station Square and check out the view.
Strip District - Coffee at LaPrima and stroll or get breakfast.Pamela’s is where people line up but there are other great options - DeLuca’s, Kelly O’s, Peace Love and Donuts.

Oakland / East End:
Pitt campus
Cathedral of Learning / Nationality Rooms
Carnegie Museum
Dave & Andy’s Ice Cream
Lawrenceville - trendy neighborhood with lots of nightlife, restaurants, bars and shops
The Frick - Mansion that was owned by the Frick family that features an art museum and antique car museum

Bumping this for anyone looking for PGH recommendations.
