Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

I think it was the decades old booster power struggle, Pruitt being hated, a terrible coach that was losing, and blatantly cheating to the level of stupidity with how he kept records. The ones that gained control were sick of how he made the university look while not even winning. They took over the way they felt necessary to get around the dysfunction. Of course, there will always be those that think there was an easier way. I’m not so sure after reading Decade of Dysfunction. Maybe they read it, too. Just my opinion with limited information. Time to swallow our medicine and move on. Can’t change a thing. I’m quickly tiring of trying...even tired of thinking about it. I don’t have many years left with my health. Doubt I’ll see another championship. Just trying to enjoy anything I can.
Best post I have read in awhile. Totally hope you are feeling better soon.

It’s insanity in here lately. You can say the coaches are the greatest ever and freaking amazing. But say one thing negative and everyone goes irate and says you’re a negavol. I guess you can’t question anything anymore. You are exactly correct. Coaches did an amazing job last year and have us on the right path. But recruiting has not been good so far. Doesn’t mean that can’t change going forward.

These guys have developed guys not highly ranked into NFL draft picks. Loved overall the on field product last year considering everything. Enjoyed it. Tired of recruiting in top 10 then program crashing and playing below expectations. Even 9 wins and losing East sucked.

These guys seem to know how to coach and develop and if so, they will grow this program. It will take time. Try to enjoy the journey. We put an exciting product on the field and get kids drafted, we will take the next step. I feel more confident than I have in a long time.

What about people like me? The ones that think we are half empty...but..we also recognize that's it is a lot better than the 95% empty we were a year ago at this point, and believe that we could fill most or all of the way back up if a ton of things go our way for a change, but that it is a very fragile chance at this point?

Does that make me a optimistic pessimist, or a pessimistic optimist?
Obligatory but here it is....

Yes.

I see we are still eating our own in here. Surely we can have healthy debates without resorting to name calling and constant sniping. At the end of the day, most of us, almost all of us, want to win.
This is true, but when attacked, I respond.

I went a few times in the mid 80s. You could bring in your own alcohol. Really good times. I think most of the games were like 10 or 11 at night on Friday and Saturday. Some of my memories are a little fuzzy. I am going to blame that one on old age and not alcohol-destroyed brain cells.
That's when I went. I remember the ones I went to were on Saturday night and I had a friend that played. Good skater that didn't like to fight.

Excellent post! This is where I live. I am so ecstatic with the difference between this staff and the embarrassing staff that they replaced. Yes, the defense struggled, but they still looked better than the year before. Breaking all the bad habits is tough.

I don’t remember seeing the defense not recognize or cover slants…running QBs gave us fits this year, but I am not sure that was more execution than scheme. Also lack of backups wore the starters out. I really hope to see the year 1 to 2 improvements in defense the most. If the offense also has a big improvement in year 2, watch out!

I am personally glad that we don’t appear to be chasing the money first players. Short term, it may help, but it will be cost prohibitive to sustain. If I gave money for NILs, it would only be for established Volunteer players. No way would I be willing to throw money at an unproven HS recruit or even a new transfer.

Agree on the defense but I would consider throwing in on that Cali QB. Think he would be huge in attracting other players not only on offense but defense too.

Need a player who represents things are changing on Rockytop!

Between the NIL and the transfer portal, this is going to be considered for decades to be a unique time in college sports. The amount of money being thrown around right now is beyond insane. Something has got to give, because the hundreds of schools that cant put up money like the A&Ms of the world arent going to be relegated to second class citizens in college sports.

So status quo. Last 15 years, the paying schools have been bama, uga, and ohio state.
clemson jumped in too.

Now that it’s more legal, there may or may not be a shift. May just be additions.

bama and uga are upset because they didn’t have to pay as much when others were scared of getting caught. My hope is that NIL will hurt them so much that they drop down a tier.

that's fhe truth. its like paying to recruit employees versus one's who've been there and stayed loyal.

Something isnt right in that quotient.

Just saw where Travis Dye is transferring to USC. Lincoln Riley is building a team, or at least an offense. They've already added WR Mario Williams. If they add Caleb Williams as some suspect they will, they should make some waves in the PAC 12 this season. We make fun of how weak that conference is, but USC can be a real juggernaut when they're rolling. All that California talent and no real competition for it when they're good.

Sidenote - I'm glad Dye is staying out West, but he's a player I would have loved to have gotten. Strong runner and a pass catching threat out of the backfield, that kid could eat in an offense like Heupel's.
College football is better when USC is good

I’m skipping over more and more of your regurgitation nonsense each day. Please quit repeating the same stuff. Make your post and move on.
Sometimes when calling other posters a name, sp an ass. Requires we look at our own behaviour first braa...

I kid, just love Looney Tunes.

Okay, I am getting a sinus infection. Fought it since November. Any of my nice doctor friends willing to call me in a prescription so I don’t have to go in the doctor’s office and get the flu? It’s the only thing I have not had. 😬

I would, but writing Rxs across state lines without any office record of seeing the patient can get the doc in trouble regardless of Rx…😐

Apparently your favorite part of VN too..
Not really. I prefer when we're being civil to each other. I didn't pick the fights, btw, but I didn't just turn the other cheek either. I'll own my part, but other posters don't get to pick and choose my opinions, or whether I should post them. Hell, I don't agree with all of their opinions, but I don't make it a point to attack them for it. The exception maybe being Mr. Checkerboards.

I think that if you really could do that, the mafia would come for you…

Just imagine if you could take the stock market history for 30 years and invest. Even if you only invested in IPO, imagine dumping money into FedEx’s first day. Just doing day one jumps, would be mind blowing how much you would make.
I’d have taken out a loan and bet Tyson/Douglas big. Float around on that largesse and add with an occasional Duke over UNLV type until Google/Amazon become available. Then become the AtlantaVol we never even knew we needed. 😎
