Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

My feeling on losing players to schools with big NIL deals is these rich aholes that talk about loving the Volunteers need to step up to the plate. If they don't, I'm afraid we've seen the best of what Tennessee football will ever be. It's time they do whatever it takes to get us back to where we once were.
Our NIL deal is actually really good just because we lost a kid to his hometown school shouldnt have posters continually questioning the program over it on here, it’s just getting old at this point. In fact if you want you can donate to spyre on their website

Why should they throw money this way? They didnt get rich by being dumb.

The UTAD has shown no roi. Specifically pulling heads out of their anuses. So, eff em.

So you don't think this staff actually wanted the guys they've pursued?
I think they pursued a couple that they missed on. I think that happens at every school. I think the staff doesn't pursue some of the ones fans either think they do or think they should for a number of reasons. I think Oswald acted alone. I think fans overreact.

I just can't...

CWM's contribution to being #122 in passing D is also duly noted as the position coach over the entire secondary. Does he also get credit for the performances of Burrell, Tank and Flowers? Two edge sword.

One year with a two highly experienced players indicates refinement and better overall scheme fit, not development. Jury is still out on CWM if we measure his success by position group and team performance. Add in recruiting.

Hope he gets it done. Too early to know IMO. Need to see how the young guys improve individually and as a group as well as who he signs over time.
Volume stats...cmon...We defended the 8th most pass attempts out of 130 teams! Volume stats are pretty much meaningless.

In efficiency terms, we were 60th nationally in yards. QBR defended we were 63rd. Just slightly above average with 130 teams.

NOW...note that in yards efficiency we jumped up from 110th under "guru" Pruitt in 2020. That's a huge 50 spot jump. We also jumped 42 spots in QBR defended, up from 105th under Pruitt.

I'd say we did just fine in Y1. A few notable outliers aside.

Two things I was nervous about when they hired Heupel was his recruiting ability at the SEC level and defense and it looks like my nerves were onto something. We have got to get NIL in gear asap.

Since Neyor was set to enroll, I take that to mean we have at least one scholarship to work with. Wonder if this staff will target another WR, another offensive position, or maybe a defensive player?

Quoting my post from Neyor thread:

We know we have 2 spots. One for the Florida tackle and one for (as of a couple of hours ago) Neyor.

It’s very likely that we have 3 spots, as we have been recruiting other transfer players since Neyor committed, and we’ve also hosted Moten, which would imply that we would sign him if he chose us.

We may have 4 spots, as we were recruiting Neyor, Moten, and Verse simultaneously, but I wouldn’t be confident saying this for sure.

Is it NIL or recruiting pitch? Or both? I thought our NIL program was better than originally expected..

I do not understand why players wouldn’t be drawn to Josh Heupel and what he’s building. He’s a good dude and excellent coach.

Now lets calm down a bit. We all know that the Volnation is a fickle bunch and unless EVERYBODY wants to come here then we have a terrible coach and or coaches and must change. We should all realize that every week during the season you can watch ANY game from ANY conference and there are WR on every team, that most people have never heard of making great football plays on a regular basis. Tyreek Hill went to West Alabama, Davanta Adams went to Fresno State and until they went to the NFL nobody new who they were and some big college's never gave them a sniff. Good players are out there and many will not get a write up by a sports writer until they sign with a pro team and make a huge check.
This is a very thought out and lucid post. Why would you expect most of the people here to understand this thought process? I'm with you though. The world is not gonna end with the results of our football recruiting.

Exactly why I haven’t donated yet. Someone needs to show me how these funds are being used, who they target, and how we are landing players. Seems like more deals for current players but how much are they getting? How much can they spend on recruits? Are they spending most of the money on the kids and recruits? Lots of questions before I start pouring money in, but we need to be spending all that money for the best possible players and start raking in some talent. I’m ready to help but NIL seems to be lacking for us so far.
How is it lacking what proof do you have? Spyre hasnt been a thing for long….just because we didn’t land a Texas kid or we didn’t get Verse doesn’t mean it is lacking..

Also thinking they are going disclose who and what deals they are giving to recruits during the process is ludicrous, sounds like you won’t donate anyway

I don’t understand it either. Who decides what player it goes to. How do we know it’s going to players. Who decides if it’s for current roster or recruits. I mean I’d like to see more than just Gus Fried Chicken and A Caravan. These other programs getting large names. Freaking Ky got some kid repping Dr pepper

The NIL last till after spring this is just a knee jerk reaction to losing one players when 100’s more will enter the portal during the spring.

Also we got like 7 guys through the portal last year so don’t act like you have proof for your nonsense

My wife`s birthday is December 22 and for the past few years we go out to eat.
We pick a different place each year and leave a $100 bill for our server. We our blessed
and this is her birthday wish.
Good for you, my man. The world could use more people like you.

What more do you need to know about it honestly it’s just a way to pay recruits? Lol either support the program or don’t it’s pretty simple

Of course fans overreact. Fans, short for fanatics.

I'm sure someone will fill the WR2 role, but this staff obviously wanted Neyor, so I have to assume they had their reasons.

I think it's okay to be concerned about missing on the players we know they pursued. After all, they were pursuing them for a reason. They know more than we do what this team's needs are, so if they want a kid, you have to assume it's to fill a need.

Thats been the discussion point lately, yes.

However, the implications as to why that would be the case are less than common knowledge. There's been thoughts around the idea of self imposed scholarship reductions impacting this direction.

But if we're targeting spring for transfers, it makes one wonder if we imposed them for the 2021 football season, since 2022 numbers wouldn't need to be at the 85 scholarship limit until fall camp.
I don't know if you read the Basilio blog, but he has an exceptionally good explanation on this subject today.

Would like to have a clue that we are actually paying them. Our kids sure don’t seem to have some of the deals lesser players elsewhere got. Maybe just not publicized as much

The thing about Moten is he wouldn't enroll until after the Spring.

Oh, ok. I don’t know how that works, so I’ll just assume you’re correct.

It still feels like we the staff was acting as though we had at least 3 spots. Like, would they have dropped Neyor if Verse had committed? It doesn’t seem like they would.

Lmao you feel better now? I love how defensive some of y’all get over pixels on a screen. I literally just stated what I was nervous about with the hire. I think Heupel did phenomenal in year one given the circumstances but you can’t disregard the issues on the defensive side of the ball and the ability to close on some of the recruits/transfer we have been on. Get snippy over my post all you want but it’s not going to change the fact that there are things that need to be addressed asap before it’s too late.
