We didn't pass on Neyor. Just chose the homestate school.
No we wanted Neyor, he left us for Texas. He's from Texas and visited them yesterday.
Im sure thats it. The guy averaged a TD per game and we are going to back off him. We have NO portal guys and we are backing away?

Just a heads up...those were 2 separate statements and not directly related to one another. I didn't want to make 2 different post so I spaced them.

Statement 1 was reacting to the Neyor news

Statement 2 was reacting to the new names in the portal

I'm out again...this place f'n sucks
Now lets calm down a bit. We all know that the Volnation is a fickle bunch and unless EVERYBODY wants to come here then we have a terrible coach and or coaches and must change. We should all realize that every week during the season you can watch ANY game from ANY conference and there are WR on every team, that most people have never heard of making great football plays on a regular basis. Tyreek Hill went to West Alabama, Davanta Adams went to Fresno State and until they went to the NFL nobody new who they were and some big college's never gave them a sniff. Good players are out there and many will not get a write up by a sports writer until they sign with a pro team and make a huge check.

I thought we were finally in alignment or at least have made a lot of progress there. I guess that's still a ton of work to do.

No, I’m not making any commentary on Athletics-Academics alignment. I’m just saying UT as an institution is very reactive, as opposed to proactive.

My boy told me he heard someone say we don’t have enough spots to be able to take more than like one more transfer portal guy until after spring semester. Has anyone else heard this? (Sorry if already posted, I wasn’t going to fish throughout the thread)

Thats been the discussion point lately, yes.

However, the implications as to why that would be the case are less than common knowledge. There's been thoughts around the idea of self imposed scholarship reductions impacting this direction.

But if we're targeting spring for transfers, it makes one wonder if we imposed them for the 2021 football season, since 2022 numbers wouldn't need to be at the 85 scholarship limit until fall camp.

I also think culturally coach Heupel isn't wanting to (yet at least) chase the "pay me" type of players. That's why Evans isn't here and probably why Verse isn't either.

I don't mind the reward the guys that stay (Baron & Tillman) if that's the route we plan to go...long term it could be the smarter strategy with NIL but you may not land great classes doing that...it's all new have to see how the market corrects itself.

makes total sense in one off a kid wants to play for home state U. Conversely, this staff has really struggled in recruiting - last years Transfers aside.

Not sure whst's up. Perception is reality. Teams are using something against us and we cant counter.

thought they finished the '22 class really strong. I guess we arent counting the successes?

We've handicapped ourselves pretty severely if the scholarship rumors are true, and losing Neyor is a kick in the nads. Lot to be concerned about. Wonder what the coaches will do now?

Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bed sitter people look back and lament
Another days useless energy spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colors from our sight
Red is gray and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion

This is a perfect illustration of Volnation. Who would have thought that the Moody Blues were Vols fans.

Had to be NIL mostly Bc Texas and FSU have nothing to sell as far as on field goes. They were worse than we were this season. And it wasn’t close. They have hot seat coaches too.

Could have been NIL, but it could have also been the draw of playing near his family. Some kids want to play close to home. Not Tennessee kids, obviously, but some kids.

Great group of musicians. Regulars in my playlists.

And playing for Texas in the state of Texas. You're an instant A-list celebrity to everyone you know or encounter during your time there. He is probably getting to check some things off of his football bucket list that he didn't get to live out a couple of years ago during his first recruitment.

I got blasted in the Jared Verse thread for stating my recruiting concerns (on a football forum). It’s amazing how Tenn fans “understand” why “Texas kids” sign with Texas, but always have some lame explanation as to why elite Tennessee kids sign with anyone BUT Tennessee. Both programs have been dumpster fires in recent years. It must be the 💰.

People need to accept that despite some successes, we've obviously struggled with recruiting. The reasons why could be numerous, but it's an obvious problem to be concerned about. Recruiting HAS to improve. Saying that does not translate to "fire Heupel!" like some seem to believe. Coach Heupel has done a tremendous job of coaching this team but recruiting has to be fixed. Hell, he'd probably say so himself.
