What is meaningful to a fan and what is meaningful to a player risking his draft position is two entirely different things. Fan opinion and interest does not count on this subject. It is up to the player and his family and nobody else. It’s a different game now. Get used to it or find something else of interest."Meaningless" is the dumbest cop-out I've heard in a long time. Meanwhile the same folks are glued to the TV and screaming at the bad calls.
He's ****ing hurt and why play a dumb bowl game when you're career is ahead of you?. You all really that salty about losing the MCB that you're gonna whine like a high school girl. Get the **** over yourself.Shows a lack of character to abandon your teammates when this game could help the program move forward with a win. I wish him well in the future but its disappointing to see him not step up. The lack of loyalty will come back to bite him eventually.

Or when you don’t play, or a game is canceled because of Covid-19 and never rescheduled, or teams opt out and replaced by other teams.Agree that most teammates weren't disturbed by his absence but disagree about the importance of the game.
Games are only "meaningless" when you lose.

I mean he's trying to get healthy leading into the draft, hard to knock him for that, we definitely missed his presence on the field thoughShows a lack of character to abandon your teammates when this game could help the program move forward with a win. I use to think that also, but now I do not. The way I look at it is that unless it is the playoffs the Bowl games at that point are just an award for the years of practice and hard work. The practices are great for getting guys reps for next year and some playing time. The coaches motivation, (like Leach),for all of them to play may have something to do with the bonus of winning a bowl game. The guys have put in thousands of hours of hard work to have a chance for the next step. Why risk injury on the last meaningless game to satisfy other people's bragging rights?Shows a lack of character to abandon your teammates when this game could help the program move forward with a win. Okay, I'm not going hard over like the OP (Alontae most definitely is a VFL), but let's not swing too far the other way, either. It's a new day Friendo. Pitt's QB sat out the game and his backup broke a collarbone. A Taylor gave his all.

Football is a team sport. Teammates depend on each other. To make a decision that is justified individually, based on your individual interests, is fine, but it's still a step away from the team.
Plenty of other fellas in their final year stuck with their teammates and played the bowl game (which is far from meaningless to us; we care how it turns out; just read the board).
Alontae didn't.
I love the lad, really proud of him, even feel a bit of a vested interest in him as a fellow Coffee County citizen. I hugely appreciate all he did for the program over the past four years, and wish him the best of luck in the future,.
But he didn't give his all for Tennessee. Almost all. Like 47/48ths of all. But not quite all. Some of his teammates did. He didn't, not quite. There is that distinction that Alontae must live with, because it was his choice.
Go Vols!
Why are you calling me an idiot because I have a different opinion than you? You would get that mouth swelled shut for you in person. But you’re one of them keyboard bad a**es. And before you say I am I’ll meet you in Dickson Tn anytime to prove to you that you wouldn’t call me an idiot to my face Bi***
