If Shuler and Jackson ever see the field we are screwed.
Shrout had the arm to make every throw in this offense. He showed against Florida last year he wasn't terrible by any means. Bailey didn't have the arm but could've ran it well enough to go bowling
"If QB3/QB4 sees the field we're screwed" could be said by literally every team's fanbase lol.

Good lawd man. Enjoy the fact that we have the best returning QB since Bray, if not Clausen or earlier.

I think a lot of it depends on the team's life-cycle and where they are in it...if you build off transfers early on...that's fine, you just really need to capitalize on it or else you'll be left worse off. Which I think we did this season. We may need to do it 1 more year, but a decent 20-man, mostly HS, class will help down the road. You just have to be able to leverage the transfers by having a strong 2022 season...then we can hopefully start building off of HS guys moreso down the road.

I'll add this though - modern transfers can be a lot different these days. It's not just grad transfers or desperate guys anymore. You could land a guy like Ewers that still has 4 years and is a stud. Just depends if you can get those types and not the other types.

Overall - I think we need to build long-term toward our "big year" like a mid-tier program would - get guys in your program, develop them, get a veteran team together with a QB, and hope stars align. Not because we are a long-term mid-tier program...but right now, within the SEC, we just are. We aren't going to outstar the best in this league. So we need to outdevelop and age them just one year...then our recruiting could really take off to where we could play their game on their level. Until then, we can't try to beat em at their own game.
Yes what you mentioned is why I hate how things are going. Year 1 nobody expected bowling, it would've been fine if we didn't get there. Use your young guys now and figure out what you have, then year 3 or 4 look to the portal and start finding the pieces. Heupel has put himself in a tough spot whether he knows it or not. You have people going in to year 2 expecting 10 wins already. If Florida comes in to Knoxville and wins or TN only wins 7 or 8 games next year everything I'm saying at the moment will look like child's play with how fast some will turn on him.

I'll finish with this, look at the running back roster. Wright and Small should eat next year, then you have Sampson and Williams behind them then whoever in the class after. If they leave running back alone it will be the best position on the roster because guys were allowed to grow.

what does run it back mean?
Since I read a couple more pages and everybody is just messin with you..

He is saying he is coming back to play another season...When we played pickup playground ball and got to the end of the game, if nobody had next we would "run it back" and start another game. I guess that is where the euphemism comes from.

I'm not over the moon on Hooker. I know some will call me negative, oh wait they already do, but he never really made any throws last year. Most of the stuff he threw was guys wide open due to scheming. Teams are going to adjust and he is going to have to make throws into windows next year.

Again. Hyatt and Keyton. On the D line because of a guy like Trembley Omari didn't play a ton. At RT we could've started Crawfords development or focused more on Davis.

The only spots you’ve really got an argument for the portal hurting us or killing depth are linebacker and safety, and you haven’t even brought those up. Hyatt and Keyton are gonna be no worse next year because Payton and Jones were better this year. Omari played plenty, and got better as the year went on. If anything, Tremblay allowed them to bring Omari along gradually and develop him. Davis is a walk on that hit the deck every other rep he saw on the field, and I’m not even sure if I saw Crawford at all. But if we are counting on either one of them to fill the spot and not trying to find somebody to put on the field ahead of them, then we aren’t doing it right.

I’m starting to wonder if you really believe this stuff or just trolling, because some of what you’re saying just doesn’t make sense.

Ali was known for that tactic but that wasn't his only tool in his bag. When he was at his prime he was a force.

I would love to see Ali vs Tyson, or cross-generational greats at their prime have that battle. In my opinion, Ali is the greatest heavyweight of all time.

Ali only used the rope a dope once. The guy he used it against, Prime Foreman, was a bigger puncher than Tyson ever dreamt of being. There’s a reason why Foreman was able to come back so late in life… even at nearly 50 no one wanted to stand in and bang with him.

Prime Ali dissects Prime Tyson and it’s not even a great fight due to styles and Tysons lack of length. Prime Tyson and Prime Frazier would be a better contest.

Was thinking this just didn't want to type. He took a helluva beating from Foreman for a good while. Once he tired him tho.....

Tyson would probably be so frustrated fighting Ali that he'd beat himself with mistakes.

Weird question . . .whats harder to quit. . . smoking or dipping?
I started dipping and smoking in 1994 as a freshman in college. Quit smoking in 2015. Quit dipping in 2018.

I don’t think one is harder than the other, chemically. Just depends on your habits and triggers.

I had a lot more fond activities and associations related to dipping (especially fishing) that it just lingered as a habit a lot longer.

YMMV

I'd go B+. 8-4 would've exceeded my expectation by more than 1 game and that would've earned an A imo, all else being equal. A close loss to any of the Big 3 would have as well.

"Just" essentially meeting the W/L expectation doesn't earn an A in my book, but the margins and overall positive management do bump him up!

9-3+ would've been A+ territory no doubt about it.
My W/L was much lower. Given the numbers we have on defense and the amount of proven talent we had on offense I’m impressed.

Our 2 linebackers for 90% of the season. Same thing for safety. And runningback.
Those 3 positions will end up being 3 of our strongest spots because they are going to be filled with 4 year starters

How about you win as much as you can as fast as you can, and reap the benefits when a bunch of recruits start wanting on board. Because a lot of guys aren’t going to give us a look if we keep farting around going 5-6 with a lot of coach speak about development and how we’re young, etc, etc. I’ve had enough of that too.

If we were to bring an awesome transfer RB to split reps with Smalls, and allow the coaches to bring Wright, Sampson, and Williams along, the position group would not be worse.
