I think a lot of it depends on the team's life-cycle and where they are in it...if you build off transfers early on...that's fine, you just really need to capitalize on it or else you'll be left worse off. Which I think we did this season. We may need to do it 1 more year, but a decent 20-man, mostly HS, class will help down the road. You just have to be able to leverage the transfers by having a strong 2022 season...then we can hopefully start building off of HS guys moreso down the road.It helps them more than it helps us. Building through recruiting 4 year guys is the way to go. It helps champ contenders more because they can find that missing piece. Other teams need pieces.
This season shows the issue with building through transfers. Now we lost 2 maybe 3 although I think Tilman comes back, both of which are transfers. They took playing time from our younger guys in Hyatt, Coby, Keyton, Callaway etc..... Now unless we get more portal receiver through begging we only have 1 experienced reciever going into next year. Transfer created a huge hole in the receiver spot. It also killed our tackle spot because it limited reps the guys behind Cade got which slows down their overall development.
Yes, who knows if those guys transfer if Hooker isnt here. Instead we are looking at resetting the offense after he leaves with two guys who barely know the offense.
Yeah no. HT has helped get Bama in position to win another title. Hes done exactly what he was supposed to do
So killing depth is a good thing?
I'd go B+. 8-4 would've exceeded my expectation by more than 1 game and that would've earned an A imo, all else being equal. A close loss to any of the Big 3 would have as well.I’d give him an A but that’s a grade grade.
If Shuler and Jackson ever see the field we are screwed.Hooker has announced he’s coming back next year. Sounds like Milton is still likely to stay. Guys like Jackson and Shuler are committed to us, and a guy like Iamaleava is only even looking us because of what we were able to do on the field this year. You actually think the QB room would be better next year with Shrout, Bailey, and Maurer sitting there?
Saying that Hooker transferring here is anything but positive defies logic.
Again. Hyatt and Keyton. On the D line because of a guy like Trembley Omari didn't play a ton. At RT we could've started Crawfords development or focused more on Davis. How did we kill depth? Who is on our 2nd or 3rd string right now that will not pan out because they missed some reps this year?
Hooker, Payton, and Jones are the reason a lot of recruits are even paying attention to us. They have been wayyy more positive for the Vols future than negative.
You don't think Jackson will/should ever see the field or just next year?If Shuler and Jackson ever see the field we are screwed.
Shrout had the arm to make every throw in this offense. He showed against Florida last year he wasn't terrible by any means. Bailey didn't have the arm but could've ran it well enough to go bowling
Hooker literally didn't see the "playbook" till February and just put up the best QBR of any Vol ever...by farYes, who knows if those guys transfer if Hooker isnt here. Instead we are looking at resetting the offense after he leaves with two guys who barely know the offense.

As bad as HT is in pass coverage, he is good against the run. HT led Bamas defense is total tackles on the season, so yeah id say he made a significant impact. Without him mabye they lost another game, maybe UGA beats them in Atlanta. HT is playing with something way more significant on the line.
While TN has to hope Hooker comes back and improves while killing their own QB depth, and probably having to rely on another transfer after this season when Hooker leaves. Hooker may look good now, but hows that depth chart look when youre choosing between Jackson, Nicholas(assuming we get him), and Shuler?
If Shuler and Jackson ever see the field we are screwed.
