Miami was in title contention when we beat them.

You're also mistaking entertainment for meaning. Bowl games used to be more entertaining, but unless one of the two teams were in title contention, they meant nothing in the overall big picture.
Why the **** do you watch then? Get out if here with this
Is crap..

**** that...do these dudes understand that if it becomes a pro leagues and they are truly going to be employees...then there will have to be a draft and a salary cap. No more picking where you want to go...you go where your f'n told or stay home and suck your thumb.
You act like ANY of this was up to the players. This is being decided by the United States courts, not the schools, NCAA, or players.

All they did was grow up in this era. It's not on the players what the rules are, have been, or will be.

If you dislike how America works, Delta is ready when you are.

It can survive but it’ll be impacted no doubt. They’ve walked away from other providers in the past when they thought they’ve been given unfair pricing, but Walt Disney is a giant to battle. I personally think they will cave but it’ll take a few billing cycles or more for them to see the real effect before they do. Hopefully the cave sooner but I’m not all that optimistic from what I’ve read about the situation.
They are hypocrites though. Had beef with Roku because Roku wouldn't pay them a significant amount more to hold the app. It's the same **** they committed and they expected Roku folks to ditch Roku. So I ditched them for fubo. Once March madness starts up, I'll look deeper into TNT and TBS. If I was fubo, I'd look to add them promptly

Well, who else would? Other than that, we get from the huge corporations what they give once they get huge like Disney, Google, Amazon, etc.

The only options are: stop buying all their stuff (unlikely) or bitch to govt to change it (yuck) or make something better (I don't see anything close currently.) 🤷‍♂️
So the government shouldn't protect people from unregulated greed? You would have loved living in the robber baron gilded age days when common people were treated as pure ****.

Man I usually agree with most of your posts.

But saying playing a sport should count as a credit toward higher education is ludicrous to me. That's like saying I should get credit toward a degree in higher education because I worked in my dad's restaurant my whole life. All experience is not considered higher education. It doesn't mean it's not as valuable, but you can't just say all positive experiences in life from which you learned something should count toward a degree in higher education from a college or university. Higher education has already been dumbed down immensely, but this would take it to a whole new level.

It's not a hill I'm gonna die on, but I do think student/athletes should have the opportunity to gain a collegiate education in different aspects of each sport.

Not simply for playing. If a player wants to attend college and be trained to be a coach or anything related to the sport, it should be an option.

Do you want govt to tell businesses how to sell their goods? I don't. I like free markets, personally, and eventually huge monopolies need to be broken.

We have laws for that. Disney isn't a monopoly (yet) and I predict Google gets "encouraged" to spin off businesses. America still works pretty well, thanks.

Yo firearm folk..

My son feels confident with rifles atp, (he really is a good shot, keep telling myself I'm letting him win😖)
Now he's wanting to learn shotguns and I haven't had to buy anything new in .. oof, let' just say the Blackberry was a dream of the future.

Thinking I'll start him with a 20 pump. Obviously want reliable but doesn't need anything too nice, rougher on them than I was at his age.
So, where are all the cool kids shopping these days? Current notorious pieces of junk to avoid?

Remington 870 pump action. Comes in 12 & 20 gauge. Not expensive, but one of the best made reliable shotguns out there.

Just my 2 cents.

Draft...salary caps...those are in no way necessities of being employees. Just things you tend to see in pro athlete/union universes. MLB doesn't have a salary cap. CFB could decide to just keep recruiting ad normal. Or treat them like coaches. CFB coaches seem to be loving the model of being enployees. They get paid as much as the market will possibly bear and come and go as they please. All depends on how the contracts are written ultimately.

There's no set definition of how any of it must work. It just comes down to owner vs player intetests. And in this case you'd be talking universities, many of them public institutions. It would be interesting, that's for sure.

The players could only stand to gain. Get scholarship + free market money (NiL, side jobs, etc) + regular paycheck. It would bring some equity, at least. It's currently about 10% as equitable as the NFL - the closest thing to a free market there is...and that's with a salary cap.

Dish way back in the day had a bunch of ala carte. As streaming continues to become more popular I could see the middleman being cut out. CBS already has their own service. NBC through peacock is doing it. It won't be long to you see others follow, imo.

I think a great business would be a streaming service that works only with local channels. If you want locals, your options are limited. If you had a source for just local channels, I think that could work. There's a lot of local channels you can't get through streaming or satellite.
I have an antenna for local channels.

You seemed to answer your own concern. Anti-trust laws ARE the government telling businesses (in very specific cases) what they can and cannot do.

That's not a bad thing. Once again, nuanced positions are needed. Not absolutes.

Both are equally at fault. Disney has a price tag and YTTV wants to continue to make their extremely high profits.

Both at fault, absolutely. Walt Disney is the dictator in this relationship though and from what I’ve read they priced it at a take it or leave it price point that they knew YTTV wouldn’t pay. Walt Disney benefits either way because of HuluTV, YouTubeTV only benefits if they pay the high asking price.

FWIW, what I’ve seen thrown around on Twitter, is that WD was asking for a 40% increase in price that would have taken 1/3 of YouTubeTVs monthly subscription price. That means if YTTV does eventually cave, you can expect a hefty raise in that monthly price.

Correct. There's only so much protection I want from govt before it becomes a little tight for my tastes.

I watch because I'm a fan, and the games are entertaining.

Not sure why you're so upset that you feel the need to get insulting. But I'll refrain from doing the same.

I love Tennessee football as much as anyone else here, but I can recognize why guys looking toward an NFL future would skip a bowl game that has no title implications, no conference implications, no real meaning other than to entertain the fans. The only meaning I can assign to a bowl game with no title implications is ending the season/beginning the next season on a positive note.

As long as people keep taking it up the butt, the companies will continue sticking it up the butt. I will do me. I watch ESPN really only when the Vols are on. People think they can't do without. I have Dish and haven't had NBC in months. Haven't missed it one bit. Honestly, I'm getting ready to cancel dish altogether. I hardly ever watch the dish, primarily when the vols play.
I just get Hulu during football season.

Absolutely....I think Direct tv is already paying that premium....along with the RSN, at least I hope so lol

oh I agree. But I anticipate the base price will be the same base price the service cost before they offered a $15/month discount for losing espn content. Then if folks want more, they pay the up-charge. So the regular subscriber gets less content, and the folks who want more sports are paying more than they had to pay previously to get that same content. We’re back to the way the system worked before streaming services.

The number I’ve seen floated on Twitter was Walt Disney Companies fees would have meant YTTV would have had to pay out $15-20 to WD for every monthly subscription. So if they did their content as an add on you could expect it to be around that price point. Then the question comes why pay $85-90 for YoutubeTV when I can get HuluTV, FuboTV for $60-$70? Until those services then have to raise their price that is.

A Hulu veteran. Ok. I need to know - is there any way to watch game highlights/Key Plays? Or do you just have to watch entire games/scroll around looking for the important plays? Hopefully you know where to find this. Otherwise I feel like I'm living in caveman times 😄
I live in caveman times. I have no idea what you’re talking about. Please don’t tell me why I need it.

Call me one of these. Memphis to Nashville with my father and two sons. Christmas gifts from me to them. Just very, very disappointed. My dad and I have seen many sporting events, but that’s how we share a close bond. My boys missed out on that opportunity today.
I’m so sorry!
