Oh wow. I did not know he was in prison. He was a good player for us. In b4 all the Fulmer Cup crap.

Sad story...was playing CFL and broke his neck on a tackle, CFL basically paid for the first surgery then he needed additional surgeries. Couldn't work, couldn't get on disability and owed back child support (which was still inaccurately being calculated based on his CFL contract). Started slinging to try and catchup since he couldn't get a normal job....ended up doing time for it.

Enter Randy Boyd and Donde Plowman. Don't care if you think Donde is a witch, we should care about results. Randy Boyd and the BOT hired her. So she gets to prove her worth like everybody else.

Who hired Danny White? Who signed off on hiring Heup and staff? Who knew the value of the sports programs such that they committed to along with their excellence? Boyd has been deep into it with the Smokies and a lifelong BO supporter. Plowman was deep into NU and now the BO. They know, which is half the battle won before the action starts.

How much support does Barnes and Voltello and their programs receive? Who brought participation in the future development of campus sports facilities and programs back to the fans, the people, instead of consolidating it all into the hands of the wealthy few along with much, much more?

So. let's address the elephant in the room - NCAA sanctions. The last remaining potential symptom of BVS. The NCAA has been involved since it was called out by UT on themselves. It's a negotiated resolution. They did not have to use a lot of investigative resource during a turbulent time in their history as well as all collegiate athletics. It's going to be OK. In essence it is already worked out IMO. We have a blue blooded AD with blue blooded law firm doing the work. We good here.

Are we going bowling this season? Would we go bowling if if any future sanctions would include loss of bowls? Probably not. CJH took 20 signees yesterday. Will not taking the 25 allowed while using the transfer portal for and extra 5-7 guys they need be the method instead. That allows for a cushion for a self imposed loss of scholarships sanction while still rebuilding the roster. We will know by February. If Heup signs the 25, I doubt there will be any self imposed sanction on it. That leaves a program probationary period and show causes to Cornbread and applicable staff members, which are well earned and deserved.

Next - roster development.
Appreciate you and these posts.

Hope you feel better soon!

That’s a great point. I also have a maybe unpopular opinion… every team should be eligible for a bowl game. If we’re serious about equal playing fields, then let everyone have those extra 15 practices.

Now, I’m not oblivious to the trouble with why anyone would want, for instance, Andy, to come to their town… but I yield.

Maybe allow practices on campus, bowl game or not, for that matter.
I agree too. I know it is an opinion, but the worst opinion in sports is that there are too many bowl games. If you don't like them, don't watch them. Nobody is making anybody watch the Weedeater Bowl.

If a sponsor wants to arrange a game between two 0-12 teams, they should be able to do so.

Wow, that's pretty rough. Glad he is out.

If you're ONLY talking Tuition, room & board then yeah it's somewhere around 50k or a bit less. To me what really drives up how much a player is really getting is medical, training, & travel.
That's fair. Still, you're talking less than 10 million spent on players (maybe a lot less) when they directly generate probably 50 million at least and indirectly attract donor and sponsorship money too. All that to say, I think NIL was the only fair thing to do, even with all the downsides.

Hopefully the VFL network can look out for him and help him get his ish together so he can take care of his injuries and his family.

I agree. The NCAA and Universities have ran a very successful propaganda campaign for years with their “oh but we aren’t really profitable” spiel, using voodoo, Hollywood accounting.

NIL has been introduced and shockingly, the system hasn’t collapsed on itself. Imagine that.

I've said in the past to cut each athlete a check for everything they get (tuition, R&B, clothing, tutors, food, books, heath care, nutrition experts, weight training, etc.....) plus extra, and let them then pay for it and get taxed.................
That will show them exactly how much free crap they have been getting.

The NIL money doesn’t come out of the Schools or NCAA’s pocket either, sooooo…

They’ve long argued that it does indirectly. And they would be correct.

But the courts determined, correctly in my opinion, that these contracts players were entering with universities did not hold up legally.
