We were dead last in the conference at giving up sacks (42) which also ranked 125th in the nation.

For our run game, TFL’s were only 25, 2nd best in the conference behind Miss State. Removing sacks, they ran the ball 220 times, we ran it 476. Our run game lost the fewest yards in the conference due to TFL’s. Over the course of 12 games we lost a combined 46 yards.

In our 7 wins our offense averaged 50.1 points per game and our defense gave up an average of 18.1 points per game.

In our 5 losses our offense averaged 23.0 points per game and our defense gave up 40.6 points per game.

Our defense ranked 125th for most plays, Ole Miss ranked 126th. Fewer plays are better.

We played 5 teams that finished in the AP-top 25 while Kentucky played 1, South Carolina and Missouri each played 4, and Vandy played 3.

Our offense averaged 6.50 yards per play which was better than we have done in at least 14 years. Our defense gave up 5.22 yards per play which since 2009 is the best we’ve done other than 2009 (4.86), 2015 (5.21), and 2019 (5.01).

Back on March 3rd after posting my research on each member of the new staff I gave each a numerical grade. I’ve updated those grades for the 2021 season.

On April 21st I posted my projection for the 2021 season and since everything pretty much worked out that way I can’t really complain.

I didn’t realize we were giving up that many sacks. Seemed like we were doing better there. Is it because it really didn’t matter much? If there was a sack with JG the drive seemed to be over.

Yes, Fulmer had the greatest success and the lowest failure. It’s just which one do you want to focus on.

The new way of compensating college athletes is chaotic and 'not a sustainable model.' Here's a solution

make espn and disney pay for it. burden should t solely be on private business and University systems.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but the carpet bagging parents deal definitely gives me pause.

Whenever you see an entire family structure built around capitalizing on an 18 year old in this sport it rarely ends well.

I imagine some schools are paying up front but they run the risk of a transfer. Paying over time is best for the businesses, but not the most attractive to the recruit.

I wonder how many of these deals involve signing paperwork with stipulations on transferring, arrests, etc.

That '23 class is fixing to be special. This is what I hoped for with Heup. You knew that he was bringing an elite offense with QB development. QB's and skill players are going to want to play here. You have Garner, the goat defensive recruiter. This is looking like we're on our way.

I believe the confusion comes from most people not understanding the wording. It says "NIL" money. It doesn't say
anything about off the book money, or as most people say "under the table".

Completely agree here. Because currently - athletes see NIL as a salary - which it isn't. They should just go all in on this and have a salary cap structure. NIL can still go above and beyond, but a salary cap structure would go a long way in leveling the playing field for Tennessee. If money could come directly from the school, we're right up there with almost any program.

Instead of redesigning complexes and weight rooms every 3 years, just pay the kids what they're worth.

OMG...you are one of them. The program was in steady and rapidly incraeasing decline from 01 to 07...I don't get the warm fuzzies about that 07 team that you do...Cutcliff came and left, and it disintegrated into chaos.


Fulmer f'n sucked by that point...period. Like I told you earlier...the FACT that he never got a sniff at a big time job offer should tell you what CFB thought of him by 08.

Majors built it, Fulmer rode the wave and two assistants for a few years and it was all downhill after that...it wasn't getting better, it was getting worse.

Think about it like this...

I own a farm and I pay a local HS kid $200 a week to work on that farm, I pay him legally meaning I report it on my taxes and he is also taxed on what he is earning from me. Guy up the street owns a farm and he pays someone $175 a week under the table. He can still report that money on his taxes, as a loss most likely. But his worker isn't taxed and may actually make more money doing the same job.

Technically at the top level both of us are paying our workers. But one is doing it legally and the other isn't. The college game has been corrupt for ages, no one wants to dive into it cause they realize theirs too much big money involved to get anywhere. But even now trying to setup legal avenues to funnel the money it's still corrupt.

Hell Jimbo could hand out $50k a year (over $24 an hour) to his 85 scholarship kids out of his own pocket and still make over 4 million a year without bonuses.

My total guess from hearing those statements:

Tennessee could have laid out how being a kid that went to a local high school could provide some great local NIL opportunities to make upwards of a million or so dollars over the next 3 years.

A&M - someone from around College Station could have said "here's 40-60K for a random NIL deal right now while you happen to be in college station currently, totally legal go where ever you want... but wouldn't it be cool if you came to college station"

this would fall in line with his comments because technically he'd probably make more NIL money long term at UT, but now he's got guaranteed money and he'll probably have more deals as freshman, and then he can always transfer and double dip if he wants to
