He was so good while here. Listening to him just shows how much he loves UT and then when you hear Kesling ,he sounds like he is on life support and not for sure who he is pulling for.I will never forget, at the beginning of the national title season, he was saying, "If not now, then when?" even though a lot of people were pointing out all the deficiencies we had.
They had one of the rare years where they had a lot of instate talent. People take a lot of stock in these signing day rankings, but for it to matter these kids have toHow? They suck
This class may not appear elite by the services, but that doesn't mean it's not elite in this system. Not an elite class, but a plenty good enough class — especially if we can add Verse. Schedule actually sets up pretty well next year, IMO. Go win 9+ next year hopefully and think we will be able to close with a really nice class next year and never look back.
I think we are ahead of them. Unless I’m reading this graphic wrong, our ranking on the left hand side says 4 while UK’s says 5 and Mizzou’s 9. Our average and points are even higher than both. I think your graphic is out of order for some odd reason.Still have some work to do. I'd like to see us ahead of Mizzou and UK, but CJH has definitely over achieved with what he inherited.

Stop. You're being way too rational for VolNation.Enter Randy Boyd and Donde Plowman. Don't care if you think Donde is a witch, we should care about results. Randy Boyd and the BOT hired her. So she gets to prove her worth like everybody else.
Who hired Danny White? Who signed off on hiring Heup and staff? Who knew the value of the sports programs such that they committed to along with their excellence? Boyd has been deep into it with the Smokies and a lifelong BO supporter. Plowman was deep into NU and now the BO. They know, which is half the battle won before the action starts.
How much support does Barnes and Voltello and their programs receive? Who brought participation in the future development of campus sports facilities and programs back to the fans, the people, instead of consolidating it all into the hands of the wealthy few along with much, much more?
So. let's address the elephant in the room - NCAA sanctions. The last remaining potential symptom of BVS. The NCAA has been involved since it was called out by UT on themselves. It's a negotiated resolution. They did not have to use a lot of investigative resource during a turbulent time in their history as well as all collegiate athletics. It's going to be OK. In essence it is already worked out IMO. We have a blue blooded AD with blue blooded law firm doing the work. We good here.
Are we going bowling this season? Would we go bowling if if any future sanctions would include loss of bowls? Probably not. CJH took 20 signees yesterday. Will not taking the 25 allowed while using the transfer portal for and extra 5-7 guys they need be the method instead. That allows for a cushion for a self imposed loss of scholarships sanction while still rebuilding the roster. We will know by February. If Heup signs the 25, I doubt there will be any self imposed sanction on it. That leaves a program probationary period and show causes to Cornbread and applicable staff members, which are well earned and deserved.
Next - roster development.
Day 11 of the non-COVID Tennessee Crud. Just enough to make a guy PO'd due to lack of sleep from prednisone, but not enough to keep me from reflecting on a big day for Volnation yesterday. Take a bow Coach Heup and staff. With the crud in mind - BVS should have been cured by what happened yesterday. We still have to recover our stamina (depth) and rebuild out immunity (defense), but it's time to go to work and win.
The past:
GNM #3: If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.
UT, UTAD, previous coaching staffs, and major boosters created a situation where the breaks went against the program - for two decades. It began the long, slow decline when Joe Johnson and Doug Dickey retired. You younger fans need to pay attention to what I just posted - us old geezers know it well. You set up victory or defeat well in advance of it ever happening from the vision, planning and plan implementation before a game is played.
Doug Dickey would have never allowed Phil Fulmer to sit and play the dog, get lazy, be overly loyal to his assistants, or otherwise allow anything to circumvent what took so long to rebuild while he was the AD and Johnson and his predecessors were running UT. Enter retirement for both, loss of control, and incompetence in their places. Repeatedly. Compounding errors and omissions. While major supporters looked on and patted each other on the backs with how smart they all were for winning '98. Let's build some more facilities and have our names put on them. Love the new building, practice fields, and all the trappings of success - until they are pointless in sustaining a winning program.
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Prov. 16:18.
Right, Urban? Sorry, had to. The next post puts on the orange colored glasses.
