I agree with you. However, a common counter-argument that people will use is that Saban was able to sign the #1 class his first year at Alabama. It is unfortunate, but we have to realize that won't be happening here for awhile.
The recruiting landscape has changed drastically since then. Hell it’s changed drastically since Butch’s early classes.

One of the downsides to the playoff so far has been the funneling of talent (at least those highly rated out of hs) to a limited pool of schools. Makes it much harder to climb back, especially when you play against two perennial top 5 recruiting schools every year.

That’s bc they hired Nick saban…. If he leaves tomm and goes somewhere else…. He will have a top 5 class…. It’s all about name recognition and pull…. There is alas other reasons why certain schools are able to pull more initial talent than others but our university has been a dumpster for years and is just now starting to change that perception.

Has anyone figured out if he is tweeting these cryptic emoji messages concurrent with players actually committing? Or is there no connection at all?

He may just be doing a social experiment to see how crazy he can drive VolNation with his hieroglyphic tweets.

It is about who he Visits

Just saw Evans to Louisville. Damn shame.

I would have gladly done his school work for him if he would have just sent me the coloring books and his AD issued 64 color crayon set.

If the rumors are true, and this is academic related, then it tells me one of two things. Either we aren’t willing to operate in the gray areas of academics to keep a guy eligible, or Evans was such a diva that we just aren’t willing to go the extra mile for him. Too bad really because he is an elite talent.

A lot of NIL success is not just going to be dependent on how much $ a program’s booster base has, but how hands off those boosters will be. The programs where boosters will just fill the coffers and allow the coaches to decide who gets the money, and continue to trust the coaches when it doesn’t pan out will be the most successful ones.

I think he was a one and done that came here with no intention of going to class. Then injuries kept him from getting on the field enough to get the call from the NFL, and by the end of the season, he had painted himself in a corner academically.

Never Forget:
December 7, 1941

My Grandfather was there that day. The only time I ever saw the man cry was when I was there visiting with him back in the mid '80's.
Amazing stories from him about that Day!

Yeah, I just hope that we have the infrastructure to help get a guy out of that situation. I think we do so why didn’t we fix it for an elite talent like him?

Why tf is he leaving? Figured the reason would have leaked out by now. Makes no sense.

I think he's not taken care of his academic obligations well enough to ensure he'll be eligible to play next season without picking up major slack this spring/summer. So rather than try to fix that (here) he's willing to transfer out somewhere else that may be more flexible with letting him get by doing next to nothing.

Also missing his kid and girl. Guessing they are still in Kansas maybe?

So, yeah, as I said, some fans buy into the fairy tale nonsense. And, this idea of a time when "noble players gave their all for the university they played for" is about as similarly nostalgic silliness as believing America was something quaint and desirable in the 1950s or whenever.

I know what those fans are thinking. I'm saying it's stupid and selfish. They didn't care when the coaches got millions, nor anyone collecting bank in the athletic departments, among a whole host of other significant changes. But, now, the kids!! The horror! If the players getting a cut is a bridge too far, then they can go watch intramural softball or whatever to soothe their sentimental nature.

Most of all, beyond the absurdity and selfishness, it's unnecessary. Kids are still going to pick colleges as they have previously by motivations mostly unknown to regular fans. Above all, the game is still the same. Tennessee will still play Florida, Georgia, and Alabama and it will look the same.

Well, hopefully, not entirely the same.
Bless your heart
