I was just looking at TAMU's recruiting. They currently have 21 commits. They're second in team rankings, just behind Georgia. But they are the crystal ball favorites for 4 more 5* players and 3 more 4* players. I have no idea how many they can sign.

3 more 5* players are considering them, but they are not currently the crystal ball favorites. The class they are building off of a mediocre season is unreal. Some deep pockets have opened up at TAMU and they're buying a mega class.
As a poster a few pages back said, Tamu know Texas will be joining soon. The boosters are going all in to be able to own the longhorns when they join. They hate all things Texas, and will pay whatever it takes to start with a leg up on them.

Another thing...we have tons of posters on here calling out our staff for "bad to mediocre" recruiting...but are they really bad to mediocre recruiters, or are their hands being cut off by all this money 🦬💩?

I am concerned that our fanbase will hold the staff accountable for something that they have zero control over.

If our back room money guys don't start helping the staff out soon, we are going to get priced into the SEC basement.
I agree with this
But I also think it will slow down some bc the more players that are busts will slow it
People will get more leery of making bad investments
I do t know what other schools are offering but it doesn’t seem we’re far behind we just need to start winning, that’s still the biggest recruiting tool IMO

Our fans are just being ridiculous…. This class looks like every first year class that we have ever had…. We were an extremely poorly run program that is facing sanctions….. it will build and grow year by year if fans will just be patient with it…. I do like that our staff is trusting their own evaluations and have decided not to recruit some higher rated guys bc they didn’t think they would be good here at Tennessee… the worse mistake some of our previous coaches have made is taking higher rated guys just bc of their rating that never/barely saw the field here…. If our coaches are good evaluators/developers then we will continue to grow to where we are fighting Bama and Georgia consistently for recruits.

I hope our cheapskate multi millionaire and billionaire mega boosters will pony up .0001% of their wealth to get us a winning program. But not expecting it

Large metro area's seem to be the defining factor.
Are we really walking around the obvious here?

Overlay the black population density map and there's your best correlation.

All of the southeast, plus major metro areas in other regions. The dots are smaller on the first map, but they exist almost everywhere as in the 2nd map. Outliers being Minnesota, rural Ohio, maybe Western PA.

The problem that I see is...it is not about true "investments"...it is just about purchasing players. I agree that if it was truly about personally investing in a player hoping to make a financial return, then it would slow down, but it is not, and it is not going to be about that.

If the elite players are just going to go where they can make the most..then that skews the argument. I agree that it will work like that for mid-low tier players, but then what will happen going forward is if you develop a guy into a great player, then they will just transfer later on and be plucked up by schools with money guys that will pay them the biggest bucks.

They have created a money based arms race.

OPM - spend it for them, right VN? You know better to do with their money than they do. lol.

Relax and watch it done the Danny White/Josh Heupel way, which is similar to what has been happening in Cincinnati - just offensive innovation versus defensive. It did give us a 7-5 with two potential other wins the officials shafted us on after a fired coaching staff, loss of over 30 transfers and sanctions looming. Good evals of who you can get, strong development, staff continuity, build the roster depth, highly disciplined/focused play, punch people in the mouth on the field.

When Santa delivers the right presents down the road, the program may elevate to elite. But let's take the program to consistently good first. Let's win an SEC East before declaring we should be buying all the 5*'s with OPM. I have a feeling that is what they are thinking as well.

Well duh that's what they are thinking...it is the only way we can do it.

So, yeah, as I said, some fans buy into the fairy tale nonsense. And, this idea of a time when "noble players gave their all for the university they played for" is about as similarly nostalgic silliness as believing America was something quaint and desirable in the 1950s or whenever.

I know what those fans are thinking. I'm saying it's stupid and selfish. They didn't care when the coaches got millions, nor anyone collecting bank in the athletic departments, among a whole host of other significant changes. But, now, the kids!! The horror! If the players getting a cut is a bridge too far, then they can go watch intramural softball or whatever to soothe their sentimental nature.

Most of all, beyond the absurdity and selfishness, it's unnecessary. Kids are still going to pick colleges as they have previously by motivations mostly unknown to regular fans. Above all, the game is still the same. Tennessee will still play Florida, Georgia, and Alabama and it will look the same.

Well, hopefully, not entirely the same.

They've made comment after comment clearly talking about the programs doing the paying and the system setup. You're omitting all of that and accusing them of only being upset about kids earning money.

Everything talent concentrations, loyalty and parity related, thankfully, is all part of recorded history. Everyone can check for themselves if there was a change or all fairy tales.
