Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

If you look at A&M's schedule this season, it was absolutely pathetic. Their cross-division games this year were Mizzou and South Carolina.

Their "success" in recruiting (success in buying) this year makes me so mad I could punch Jimbo in the face. I'd say the NCAA needs to shine a spotlight on them, but they wouldn't do anything. I think all those SMU boosters from the '80's must have moved over to TAMU.
It's all legal now. The ones with the highest payroll will get the best players. It's going to ruin college football.

Hey did you miss where it's now allowed to pay players? Wtf are you complaining about exactly?

I don't think I've ever watched a season where we got effed more by stuff being redone after the fact whether it was adding a penalty or taking TDs away or minusing out opponents penalties.

That penalty wasn’t “canceled” out with Pitt being awarded the ball. I brought this up several times when it happened, but there were two options on the table:

1) we eat our penalty from the spot of the foul, pinning us around the 5 or so
2) WE decline Pitt’s penalty and force a re-kick

We took the latter. It wasn’t rule-bending.

Imagine the Ole Miss Scoop and Score or the Hendo 4th down conversion that was somehow not overturned…. If those would of not happened we would of been 9 - 3…..

Everyone keeps pointing to that but leaves out the fact that pinning Ole Miss deep on their next possession led to 9 points (safety and immediate TD). We score 7 there, we don’t get 9. Furthermore, if the game goes exactly the same as it did, and Tillman makes the catch at the end, it’s a tied game with the PAT (happening the way it did wins it). Let’s not be revisionist homers.

Only it's not all legal now. It'll be overlooked, but there are still rules in place that prevent the school or boosters from directly paying players to come there. I highly doubt just the promise of a lucrative NIL deal is what's attracting these kids, and NIL deals are also not supposed to be contingent on a recruit picking a certain school. Everyone thinks "there's no rules", but there are still rules. The problem is no one will do a damn thing about it. And because of the whole Pruitt mess, we are handicapped in paying recruits ourselves.

Nay it’ll balance out in the portal. Just like it did this year.

I hope you're right but I don't think you are. Prior to roster limits (and probably even after), Bear Bryant used to stack his roster with players he had no intention of playing to keep them off of other teams. The same is going to happen with NIL and a lot of kids will be happy to take the check and forget about the long term.

I do think the portal helps tho.

Boosters can 100% pay players now completely legit.

But the best portal players are getting huge deals too. If anything it encourages transfers because they get paid twice. Money will always win.
But that’s my point. Players will go to a school because of money but then be unhappy and then hit the portal. So it’ll all balance out eventually.

Possibly but, if the good players want to go to NFL they have to find a decent team. For the insignificant players hitting the portal you may be right though.

Not the ones who have NFL aspirations. You don't make it to the league if you don't ever see the field.

You give a kid millions or hundreds of thousands or even just tens of thousands of reasons to do nothing but spend money and party and plenty will take you up on it. They'll realize two years after they're out of the program and cash that they made a very stupid decision.
